We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.nn

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday-imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday- misterhub (Greg)
Wednesday- Mamacin (Cindy)
Thursday- myallforjcbill (Bill)
Friday- 88olds (George)

Topic: Rising above the fray.
There's no doubt some or most of us are in the midst of the fray in our areas.
1. Are you able to stay focussed?
2. Are you finding ways to cope with what seems to be a chaotic pandemic situation for many?
3. Are you able to improvise and stay the course with your goal of Living The Lifestyle?
4. If you answered yes to all of the above you might be super human.
5. Any comments to the good of the cause are all welcomed. 🙂

Still working on my psyche. No WW face to face and may look into the virtual workshop. I guess my easy answer is that I am trying to do #1,#2,& #3. I believe so far I have lost maybe 1 LB with the worries. I do walk and ride my bike but have curtailed shopping. No yoga class, no gym time.

I’ve been practicing distancing since mid day
Saturday March 7. Made a nervous trip to Publix on Saturday.

Unfortunately I’ve distanced myself from a number of things that keep me sane. On the weight front I’m doing well as I’m not eating out. It’s also cheap.

But the resistance part of my fitness plan is shot. There are YouTube videos I could make use of but they seem a unsatisfactory substitute for the gym. I’ll try to use this bit of whining to get myself to give it a go

On the plus side- walking in the park. I’m at about 7000 steps per day. Going to try to up that to 10000 if my left foot will cooperate. Walking is the high point of my day. Wondering why I didn’t try it sooner.

I do feel pretty unsettled. I'm not personally worried about coronavirus, but rather the disruption that many aspects of my life are feeling. We're working hard to transition to working remotely (which is challenging as I have a research laboratory). My synagogue has cancelled all services. Although we can pray at home (and we've been doing so on Zoom as a group), it's not the same as being there in-person. My evening classes are all cancelled or moving on-line. Etc.

But, I do like running outside, so that's been a nice constant for me. We don't eat out so the closure of restaurants and bars hasn't really been impactful).

I am just trying to be more flexible...with variable success!

What focus? Mine is completely shot with the rapid changes in all aspects of life around me.

And I'm currently out of town visiting friends which is both good (they are also introverts and enjoy hiking/biking) and bad (I'm away from my husband and our kitties).

I guess the other good thing is that I'm in a less populated area now and will be in even more rural areas the remainder of my time away.

What were the other questions? Did I mention I don't have any ... Squirrel!

My mind has been all over the place. Since my surgery 1/22 I have not been back to my former routine.

Now with Covid 19 nothing will be back to normal TBD (July Aug ???)

I have been thinking about big historical events I have endured over my 72 years. I have personal life experiences that I have been thinking about.

But nothing LIKE THIS! It is like a movie, but now I am a part of a IRL script. Wondering how it will end???

My DW is 70 yo who works as cashier at grocery store, I asked her to quit but she won’t. Needless to say I’m worried beyond worry.

Well it seems from the comments posted the crazy life and times seems to be spreading throughout the GoaD Nation. No different here in North Georgia. I started the day with an appointment with a wound Dr and DW started the day with a low grade fever that's moved up to 100° this evening. Adding that to all the above items mentioned 1,2,3 & 4 and we seem to be staring at a near perfect storm.

For me even in the midst of what's going on I'm doing my best to stay focused on the main thing which for me is losing weight, eating balanced and keeping within the points and kcals. Still recovering from post surgery complications and looking for an improving health.

Well we just got back from a long weekend trip to Boston for a family wedding. My focus was completly shot by this trip, Now that we are back We have to figure out the new normal routine. No Gym, probably a lot of walking in substitution, fortunatly there are lots of good walking trails by us. Trips to museums resturaunts and local events out of the question! Family & friends get together's not so much! Grocery & pharmacy trips only through the drive up window or on line shopping & pick up options. Probably more time doing household chores that keep getting delayed in order to keep active and prevent boredom after that I am still trying to figure it out.

My focus is tenuous, at best. I think I have manic-depressive focus. I'll be really focused for a month...then, it all goes to *kitten*, and I am all over the place.

Right now, I seem to have really good focus until I get home...eating controlled, healthy portions during the day...then, I get home and start to eat too much of stuff. Comfort eating, probably. Gotta get a handle on that. Maybe I need some more focus.

With dinner normally at 6, I start to lose focus around 4 its the time of day when I am most likely to go off the rails, still working on what to do for those 2 hours or so.

Cook dinner. Keeps you busy, and makes DW happy. LOL

My cardiologist said the number one risk factor for heart disease is obesity. Remembering this helps me stay focused day to day on eating a healthy diet and losing weight.

When I was young, the government sent me to fight the Vietnam War. Now I'm old and they're asking me to stay home. Staying home is easier.
