We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.nn
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday-imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday- misterhub (Greg)
Wednesday- Mamacin (Cindy)
Thursday- myallforjcbill (Bill)
Friday- 88olds (George)
Topic: Having Fun Yet?
Things have changed for many people depending on where you live, your age etc. Some are working at home, some aren't working at all. Others of us are sheltered in place and not going out except for medical appts or for a walk. As we learn to social distance ourselves we find ourselves home more. What are you doing for fun besides eating in front of the TV? How do you keep yourself positively engaged in a lifestyle and not distracted?
Alt topic: Screw it, you've decided to grab that tub of ice cream you scored in the store and start binge watching. What flavor ice cream and what show?

Since I am housebound and now my wife is laid off and home as well, this has been a bit of a topic. I will ignore the excitement of actually getting all the housework done, redoing the budget, daily exercise, keeping my tracker current and other low hanging fun fruit.
1) Dynamic Meal Planning based on what's available - Having my wife buy the healthiest stuff she can find at the store and then I have to figure out how to make it work.
2) Daily work on my Hammered Dulcimer to see if I can advance beyond the eternal beginner stage.
3) I still have my recorder from the early 70's. Might drive the family crazy with that as well.
4) Think about actually getting stuff done this time
Alt Question: I am thinking a nice Bing Cherry or maybe Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia. I never saw the Sopranos so perhaps that is a good place to start.0 -
I am working from home. But, I am able to focus a bit more on my language learning (Spanish), plus some voluntary professional training.
@myallforjcbill One of my good friends is a hammered dulcimer player. I remember when he bought his first one just because he want to learn how to play. He is now quite accomplished and plays actual gigs - mostly small, but some bigger. Good luck in your efforts!0 -
I’m reading The House Of The Seven Gables. Playing the guitar.
About 2 weeks ago I started playing Sudoku on my iPad. I’m hooked. I was hooked on Sudoku once before and then one day, poof, it was done. Hoping that doesn’t happen for another month.
Bonus: I eat ice cream nearly every evening but no binge. If I can’t eat it under control it’s out. I find that a big incentive to stay within the lines. Watching Halt and Catch Fire on Netflix.

Thankfully, a number of my "communities" have been very active through video-conferencing. That helps me feel as though I'm still connected to folks, even if it's at a distance. I always enjoy an opportunity to learn something, so this has been really helpful for my sanity!
I'm still exercising, and I go out for a run 3x/week. I run in the early morning hours, so there's hardly anyone out on the streets at that time. I get some air!
We've got some of our kids home, and the last one is coming home on Sunday. It's been much more active at home than usual. That's fun too.
We're playing games (sixsticks is a current favorite), and watching movies. I see that Netflix has a new thing where you can coordinate your movie watching across friends (Netflix Party, I think), but we haven't tried that yet. We are texting back and forth with folks more than I'm used to. I think we all just need connections.
For the binge watching, I'd probably grab butter pecan and watch some sci fi series. I'm not sure what's out there right now and I don't have any running list of shows to watch right now.0 -
LOL and I needed that. Tub-o-ice cream...uh not. Reminds me of the wonderful english teacher in China that did blogs of herself in her room quarantined for 40 days. The clip showed her sitting with the biggest bag of peanut M&Ms open in her lap as she chatted about her time. I have actually lost at least 2 LB (worry?) and my tiny wife about 4 lbs according to her.
Oh I like the idea of getting hammered...with a dulcimer that is. ;^)
I get out for early walk to avoid peeps and ride away from the trails on bike to also avoid peeps.
I too have been doing some sudoku again.0
