Tuesday check in
Ha! So much for my weekend check in, just did not happen. I did read some posts but never made it around to any replies because blahblahCOVID-19blah. I wasn't really thinking I was being too affected but I am in subtle ways. Some updates and revelations below and I'll pop back in tomorrow and start to get back in the swing of things!
1- I am recommitting to the daily check-in. It serves me well - and I like being closer to the conversations!
2 - I am super focused on eating well and exercising. I have taken my anxiety over the whole thing and turned it into a laser beam focus. I suspect it could get some out of hand but I'm far from that, so far. I think the bottom line is that this - health and fitness and the role I play in how good that is for me - is the only thing that feels solidly in my control. Gots to take whut I can gits.
3 - The AC is still out and we have the bedroom, hall and living room being cooled with a window unit and fans. It's very workable until it's fixed which is not going to be as soon as I'd like.
4 - Water heater flooded basement on Saturday - was replaced on Monday. Just a few days with no running water and a daily back-up water event with the water on while we filled buckets, etc., but hubby had to be downstairs managing the floodwaters while it was on. Oy.
5 - Weirdness with boss getting better - I have improvements to make, she does as well. We will either get past it or we won't but my money is on the 'will.' I think part of the issue is the stress of jobs and how we are or could be impacted for employment. For now - I'll just keep working until or unless I hear differently.
6 - Grand finale - I have been moving slowly into some jogging! It feels good and I'm starting slowly and only short bursts. But doing it. And have my step platform and working up to adding this into my daily routine to up the burn and cardio. Hey! I have watched some of the vids you guys have posted.....that's a step forward!! => Love the dance videos!
'night friends.

Step Challengers & Others - Want to Volunteer to Test Something New?
Hey, there, Slimpossibles!
Since FitRockr has been working well to manage the step challenge, we thought we would test out something new -- a 2-team challenge. The ranking will be based on Activity Points, which FitRockr calculates based on your calorie burn.
This looks like it could be such fun! It's a trial run, so be patient and let us know if you hit roadbumps!
Sound Like Fun?
IF YOU ARE IN the Slimpossibles Step Challenge:
1. Log in to FitRockr
2. Try clicking this "join" link: https://www.fitrockr.com:443/#!/join/league/5e892201753d2a0001a3eb31/1770f38a-8ecb-4b88-b171-5986174132ff
3. If all goes well, you will see a "Join Team Within League" message. Select a team (Slimpossibles!) and then select JOIN
4. If you have any problem with this, ping me, and I can send you an invitation from within FitRockr
One more note -- for FitRockr to calculate Activity Points, they need to know Age, Height and Weight. They don't show this data to other users. It's used to calculate an estimated base calories, so that you then get credit for calories burned over that. So if you skipped entering that data, head over to your FitRockr Profile > Settings to make that update.
IF YOU ARE NOT IN the Slimpossibles Step Challenge:
What You Need
To participate, either (A) you need a fitness tracking device (many options) or (B) you need to download either the Misfit, the Fitbit or the Google Fit app, and set that up with your phone as your tracker. Once you are set up, when you sync with your app, FitRockr will automatically get sent your activity data, will then calculate Activity Points (which reflect your activity level, not just steps), and finally add them to the points for the team.
Set Up a FitRockr Profile
SIGN UP for FitRockr here: https://www.fitrockr.com/
NOTE that for this challenge, you’ll need to include in your profile your Height, Weight and Age. Other users will not see this data, but FitRockr will use it when calculating your Activity Points.

Congratulations to all our Slimpossibles Step Challengers!
Our high steppers for last week:
1 - @Katmary71 with 174,652 steps
2 - @Jactop with 95,646 steps
3 - @raleighgirl09 with 89,127 steps
Together we logged 833,925 steps last week. 🤩
Didn't join at the start of the month, but think a step challenge would be fun and/or help you stay in motion?
Go ahead and jump in now!
Walking is a great way to help stay healthy. Steps taken along with walking videos in the living room count! Outside walking is great; just be careful to keep to that "6+ feet away" social distancing rule.

Happy and healthy stepping to everyone!0 -
@Jactop great loss! Love the idea of moving your bike, I'd love to have mine out on the deck!
@mrmcgrath gorgeous pic!
@TeresaW1020 Glad it's not just me, I spent the entire workout trying to figure out what I didn't like about her! I think it's her fake smile the whole time she's working out, who smiles the ENTIRE workout? Glad you were able to get food for your celebration. I'm going to be alone so I'm not planning anything, have enough food to put off shopping until early next week or else I may have picked up something. Maybe I'll order a pizza! My family's talking about a later celebration. I keep forgetting what day it is too!
@leonadixon Happy birthday!

@nbbaby yay, 1lb down!
-stupid thing to notice now but that recipe isn't the same as maple soy if it has honey! I think the only difference between the two recipes is the sweetener, I've used both and both were good.
@AustinRuadhain Just watched both videos, the second one with how they're doing burpees is how I modify them too. Are you an ABBA fan? My SIL and I always insist on watching Mama Mia when camping, it drives my nephews nuts!
@raleighgirl09 Great to see you! Glad you're feeling lazer-focused on health. I think it's great that you're jogging now, it's such a good time to try new challenges. Sorry to hear about your water heater!

Tuesday check-in
Calories- under
Exercise- foam rolling, yoga, HASFit chair exercise on ball, ball exercises, ab and plank challenges
Water- over
Habits
Cardio 30 minutes- nope
Weights 3xs a week upper/lower- can't do lower, 1 upper
Yoga/Core- done
Decluttering- done
Recipe- last was Sweet and Spicy Siracha, just threw stuff together tonight and same for tomorrow
10,000 steps- no, resting
Well, I'm finally listening to my body and resting my legs for real this time. No cardio, no leg weights, no waking up and dancing/walking in place while drinking coffee online. My calf muscles haven't recovered from tightness/spasming while cutting back steps and cardio and I did some reading, apparently it's because I'm doing a lot of repetitive movements and not giving them time to heal (walking, dancing, aerobic-type videos vs cross-training like I do when the gym is open) plus I've been doing more between my Fitbit and not feeling like I'm getting as good of workouts doing videos as I do at the gym. Also don't have a lot to do right now and it was keeping me busy! Anyhow, spent the day aside of my workout with my feet up, reeking like Tiger Balm again, and with ice packs on my legs. I'm at 3000 steps for the day and usually have over 15,000 by now, definitely had to cut back what I'm eating as I'm burning a lot less. That won't be a big deal once my body adjusts. I'm not spasming as bad as this morning but don't expect to be able to increase my walking/exercise for awhile.0 -

To find out who I am outside of “mom” since I will be an empty nester soon
To love me no matter where I am at in my journey.
To pursue habits and hobbies that I will enjoy and that will enrich my soul.
To focus on total health (mind, body, and soul)
Don’t let any one weigh-in dictate what I do.
Choose to do the work.
Choose to show up & do the actions.
Don’t give up when you get your first bit of resistance.
Stick to your habits no matter what. Ignore your ego and avoid complacency.
Keep a connection with others who understand what this journey. Isolation is not helpful
Don’t hide when weight gain happens. Assume it will. Share your truth, and don’t let your mind tell you no one will understand.
Make up your mind that you are and will be successful.
Accept that this is your struggle, and you will not be fixed. I will need to continuously manage my condition.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR INCREDIBLE STEP WINNERS!!! @Katmary71, @Jactop, and @raleighgirl09, you ladies rock as usual and inspire us all.
@Katmary71, I agree that you HAVE to rest your legs so that you will heal completely. I know it’s hard and very frustrating but it’s the only way. Hang in there, heal, and then you can get back to rocking your workouts and getting in all those steps! Yes, it’s the smile that she wears the whole time. I have a full-length mirror in my workout room, and I can tell you that when I’m giving it my all there is NO smile on my face!
@raleighgirl09, I’m glad you are recommitting to a daily check in. You need it and we NEED to hear from you! Being super focused on our eating and exercise is going to be the key our success. Unless we need to rest our poor hurting body, @KatMary71. Bummer about your AC and water heater! What an ordeal for you to have to deal with. But yayyy that you feel like the situation with your boss will continue to improve. Wow, starting to jog is awesome! I have tried to jog a few times on my treadmill, but I worry that I will hurt my knees. I think I need to get more weight off before I start thinking I’m a super athlete.
@its_cleo, I’m glad that your session with the trainer went well enough that you will do it again. I know that it’s very hard to keep ourselves from getting down when every day does feel like the same and like this is never going to end. But it will end!! We have to cling to that hope and do our best to be good to ourselves. And in my case I need to be good to my DH because I have found myself getting grouchy with him and that isn’t very fair.
@nbbaby, Yayyyyy you lost your pound for this week!! Keep it up!
Good morning team! Another day of life within the house. Yesterday, I did better with my food tracking but was still over on my points. I’ve already pre-tracked today and WILL stick to it. I had a good workout yesterday and this morning my muscles are hurting!! I’ve got an hour-long booty workout to do in a few minutes and I am sure that the trainer will kick my butt, literally!! After my workout, I think I will do some housework and try to keep busy. Have a good and safe day!0 -
I signed up for Fitrockr but not sure how much help I will be in the challenge. I do not have an Apple Watch and and notice that my steps in the Apple health app is less than half of what I really have.0
-
@nbbaby Congratulations!
@Katmary71 Thank you for the recipe. It looks delicious and I can't wait until I can get salmon again to try it!
@its_cleo I ran into the same problem with buying dumbbells online. I bought bands instead, they are available. I'm glad your online session went ok.
@AustinRuadhain ABBA makes me happy, I may just have to do that video!
Hi everyone. I didn't have such a good day yesterday. I had high hopes for it when I planned for it, but it just didn't execute that way. I ended up in a state of depression most of the day and focused on work instead. I did clean my bathtub, so I did do something sort of physical.
For yesterday:
Calories: over/under? over
Water: over/under? under
Exercise: ----
Goals or Improvements for tomorrow (today): do some form of exercise. I'll leave it up to my body to choose what it wants to do today. 52 oz+ of water.2 -
Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Despite all the yuckiness in the world right now, it was one of my better birthdays. I really enjoy being at home with my family and they made it wonderful. I forgot to weigh this morning! Work is insane and I was distracted. I will weigh in tomorrow morning! I am excited for the new step challenge. My steps are not nearly in the numbers that some are, but it seems like this one can show my personal improvement based on just number of steps, so I am in!0

@Cornanda I agree with @AustinRuadhain - be kind to yourself, and my first thought also went to the good of maintaining your weight, even at a weight you'd like to reduce. There is something you are doing right to not be just on some kind of splurge gaining trend. Every meal is a new opportunity to try a small thing to change, and get comfy with it before adding to it. What is a small change you can make? Reducing portions at one meal a day or something else that can be a small changes. If you can do that for a while and not overwhelm your brain with 100 new things in a panic to try to gain control.....you can slowly gain control. I also hope you don't mind the words of advice - I hear resignation in your words and I get it, I've been there. But no one can get away from there quickly - it took me an inch at a time (and still not done =>) to get to a new place. And to go a mile, I had to go one inch - 63,360 times. [/quote]
@raleigh_girl Thanks! There was/is resignation in my voice. But I'm trying to make it go away. One thing that is very helpful about this group is that this journey is not easy for anyone. It's truly all about the inches. And never giving up. Appreciate the support.

Sooo glad I didn't gain!! #20poundchallenge
I finally found somewhere to walk outside that wasn't clogged with people. I didn't realize how much I missed walking in the sun until I did. It was lovely. There were 3-4 other people out there but we all stayed well away from other when passing so no worries.3 -
@bethanie0825 - Hurray for finding a place you can walk and maintain that safe social distance! Outside time and sunlight are so important.
And double hurray for losing weight for the #20poundchallenge!
On a related note -- has anyone seen any of the pictures of Australians dressing up to take out the bin (garbage)? It is super silly, but I keep trying to find ways to laugh every day.
@Cornanda - @raleighgirl09 said everything so well. I especially loved "And to go a mile, I had to go one inch - 63,360 times." I certainly had that same experience. You asked for examples, so here are some of my baby steps.
- "I will not eat a candy bar right now. Maybe later. Later for sure. But not right now." Interrupting the daily walk to my corner bodega for a candy bar was a big one.
- When I started having a meal plan, I started with just breakfast. If I ate an on-plan breakfast, the day was a win.
- After brushing my teeth at night, put workout clothes on my dresser.
- When taking my son for his music lesson, I would have 20 minutes to play with. I used to go get a pastry at a shop nearby. One day, I packed headphones and went for a walk instead. I didn't say I'd never do the pastry shop again, just that one day. Eventually it got to where I always went walking in that 20 minutes.
That's some of mine.
Take a look and see -- where is there one baby step, one tiny easy change you can make? If it's not something you want to do, pick a different thing. And if you keep not getting it done, maybe it's too big. It's all an experiment! The big thing is to not quit!
@TeresaW1020 - Thank you for that timely reminder! I am about to head out for a walk to get my daily calories back on track. And my fitness tracker is pinging me to say I have been sitting still too long.
How did your day go today? Did pretracking help? Was your workout fun? And yay to housecleaning -- that's movement, too!
@Katmary71 - Hey, the Bab & Brad videos (the 2 physical therapists) look great, and they are funny. I am constantly stretching to stave off plantar fasciitis and knee issues, and it looks like they have suggestions for both. I just subscribed. Thank you!
I am glad you are taking time to heal. It's important.
At my martial arts school, when we are injured we come in and sit on the bench, or do what we can and then go sit on the bench. It takes discipline, but you are in this for the long haul, so it's great you are giving those legs some rest and TLC.
Did you see the Miranda Esmonde-White/Essentrics/Classical Stretch videos I linked to? Those are super gentle and might possibly have something to offer, now or later in your healing process. Either way, we are thinking of you and wishing you well and healthy!
@leonadixon - We are SO GLAD you had such a great birthday! The Step Challenge is really, truly there just to support you in moving. I don't step as much as the leaders either, but it's a fun nudge to keep moving. So glad you decided to play!
@trooworld - You know what? A clean bathtub on a day when you are battling the blues is a win! Any movement is movement! Awesome that you checked in and mentioned it!
Oh, and a big yes to Abba making me happy. If you like Abba too, you night try that 1 Mile Abba Walk video. It was silly and fun and the woman doing it is super smiley but not super duper tiny, which I appreciated. I need to do that one again!
Related thought -- did you ever see the film The Martian? I would have loved it even without all the Abba songs (it's a great movie about overcoming adversity; great book, too!), but they were definitely a bonus!
@mrmcgrath - Thank you for signing up to help us test out that team vs. team challenge! Since it is based on Activity Points (based on calories burned during activity) and not just steps, maybe your Apple Watch data will be better? Who knows, but fun to try it!
The cat conversation is making me so happy, @vegan4lyfe2012 , @jugar and @raleighgirl09 . I learned so much from Diana, my Maine Coon. Who'd have predicted I'd meet other people that particularly appreciated Maine Coons?

Wednesday check in
Well, well, here we are at mid-week! Saturday here, then Sunday going to the coast where we'll stay for the week. Gotta see my Ma on Saturday (driveway visit, at least 8 feet apart, I bring my own chair) and really - working from home now and can't have regular visits with my mother - there isn't a reason to not just stay. Taking all food and supplies, not shopping there. Not stopping along the way. => All good measures to not contribute to community spread.
Hey! I was reporting a lot here before I got serious on my plan with PnP and going all in at the end of Feb. Just to let you all know - I still do a habit tracker, I still food prep and plan ahead all meals, recording them at least a day in advance. All that good stuff is now on old fashioned paper so I can't copy and paste. But - it's all still happening. I'm doing well with it and happy about the results but really just happy to evolve. I found even way back at the beginning of this journey 20 years ago, that evolving - partaking in evolution - was the way for me to truly progress. It gives me a sense of comfort to realize that moving on or moving up - or even moving laterally because the other stopped working - can be a part of my journey and plan. Turns out, it's actually a big part of it. =>
Some things I've done that have helped are, 1- avoiding alcohol on Mon, Tue and Wed nights; I make a mocktail and am super happy with it and have not missed having a drink those nights. 2- go for a midday walk which gives me a very compelling reason to dress. 3- go for an after work walk so that I actually walk away and have an 'end' to the workday. 4- food prep and planning...so huge because then the food is made and/or planned and I just follow the plan. No drama, no bargaining. No surprises. 5- I am now in day 3 of my No Licks Life. Now, this is kinda dumb but - licking my finger while cooking leads to licking the spoon and maybe I left extra on it (???) and then a bite and then four bites (and was that just a freaking half a portion???). Seriously - a lick of a drip while cooking is the biggest slippery slope for me. So now I am saying no to licks, be gone licks, do not tempt me you stupid drip - for I will NOT. LICK. YOU. (insert the most serious of Shakespearean tone and timbre you can muster in your head - with a thunderous end!!!)!!!!!
Hehe - it's the little things that make me smile. =>0 -

@AustinRuadhain I love your small steps, such good advice. Sometimes we get all tangled up in our thoughts and emotions and start downplaying the small efforts - what great examples of things that can lead to success! And I do love me some kitty-cats!

@TeresaW1020 haha....I think tomorrow is a light day - I was worried about my knees but it's my hip that's complaining so I'll just ease up for a few days and then do some more interval type jogging. I'm only in it for the extra burn so I don't feel I'll be losing ground when I need to ease up a bit.0 -
@AustinRuadhain First, I have to say I love your habit of pulling one weed. It's hard to say no to ONE weed! I do that with working out, 5 minutes and I can quit. As you probably do too once you start you keep going. I think especially with something like weeding, it'd be hard to not pluck the one next to the one you pulled! I checked out both videos. For the most part the yoga routine I've been doing for backs has been a good routine for me as it includes all the post-surgery strength exercises and stretches. According to Bob and Brad I'm still in the resting stage and shouldn't be pushing stretches so I was real gentle today with yoga. Hm, the link to see the Australians didn't work for me, darnit! Makes me feel pretty sloppy, I looked down at my workout clothes (NEVER would've gone outside in skin-tight workout pants before losing weight) and no bra and just decided to put a jacket on before going to the mailbox and taking the cans to the curb.
@bethanie0825 Nice loss, glad you were able to spend some time outdoors.
@raleighgirl09 I'm always amazed at how in-tune you are with your health habits. You should check out those physical therapists that I put the link to, Bob and Brad on You Tube. Most of the back stuff I'm familiar with but the massage techniques are helping with my calves. I hope your hip is doing better soon.0 -
Wednesday check-in
Calories- under
Exercise- two arm weight videos, abs, ab and plank challenges, yoga, foam roller. I followed a link to a dance video and tried a little and stopped, then did the warm up one and called it a day.
Water- over, it's later than I thought and I have a huge mug of peppermint tea to drink now
Habits
Weights 3xs a week- upper 2, lower 0
Cardio 30 minutes- did a little but not 30 minutes
Yoga/core- done
Decluttering- haven't done any the last few days
Recipe- making roasted cauliflower and lentil tacos with creamy chipotle sauce tomorrow night.
10,000 steps- nope
Feeling a little better which makes it harder to be careful but I'm being cautious, icing, using Tiger Balm still, massaging my legs, and keeping my legs elevated. Anything that used the legs too much like doing jumping jack planks in the plank challenge were modified. Internet is running good since the technician came out, yay, haven't been dumped since 10 this morning! One thing that's going to make staying off my feet harder is the booty bands I ordered came! I'm really getting excited at small things like this right now, I'd probably go insane if I could get my hands on heavier weights without spending a ton. Anyhow, picked out two butt and ab workouts for tomorrow, I'll do the harder one first in case the second is impossible but stop if they use the lower legs too much. I'm trying not to be sad about Easter. I'm on various cooking groups on Facebook and everyone's talking about what they're going to make. Since I'm alone my only plan is streaming church, working out, and making dinner which will likely be leftovers. I don't plan on going to the grocery store just to make a special meal for myself. My family's going to get together once we can, I'm so grateful we were able to go out for my Mom's birthday the weekend before all of this. We used Zoom to get together last weekend but my internet kept dumping me so I didn't get to hang out long.0 -
I had a really good day yesterday!!
On a separate note, I have not been able to get Fitrockr to sync steps but it appears to be syncing something because I have points. Idk 🤷🏻♀️

My vision for 2020:

@TeresaW1020 LOL!!!!
@AustinRuadhain Thank you! I did end up doing that 1 Mile Abba Walk video yesterday, it was a lot of fun, thank you for recommending it! I've seen parts of The Martian. It was a while ago though. I remember liking it...maybe for the Abba music! By the way, I feel much better today. I set small, achievable goals yesterday that allowed me to collect some "wins" and that, along with the physical exercise helped.
@Katmary71 I'm glad you are feeling a bit better.
For yesterday:
Calories: over/under? under
Water: over/under? over
Exercise: ABBA YouTube exercise video
Goals or Improvements for tomorrow (today): do some form of exercise. I'll leave it up to my body to choose what it wants to do today. 52 oz+ of water.0 -
@raleighgirl09 glad things are a little better with your boss. I do think things easily get magnified right now….focus on health and fitness sounds great! One thing I keep trying to think is the healthier and fitter I am, the more likely I am to recover from any kind of illness. ……yay jogging! I LOVE jogging so much but it is hard on my body and that has always limited me (Achilles has been an issue off and on for years). When I started I would try to increase and then eventually get injured and I would get so frustrated, and then I would start all over. Rinse and repeat for several years.
Finally a couple years ago I was like- I like running and so I’m going to do it, and I don’t care if I can’t go far or fast, I will just do what I can. So that has worked much better, and my Achilles was actually much better- I went 2 yrs injury free until this month. Right now I do run/walk intervals for about 30 minutes total. I was jogging some hills as well and doing 30 second intervals jog/walk up the hill for several reps, but that is on hold too bc of Achilles.
Go slow with jogging, there are also a ton of videos on youtube about form.
@katmary71 yeah take care and rest! It is the absolute hardest thing to do isn’t it? Sometimes I feel like I would rather run up 100 stairs or lift 100 lbs or do almost anything but be forced to rest lol…..I’m not doing much for Easter either.
@TeresaW1020 I’m sure it’s hard to be in a patient mood all the time and not take it out on the people around you….living alone I can be as grouchy as I want but sometimes I will start posting on twitter or something lol. Like a crazy old woman. That’s when I know I need to take a breather.
@trooworld yeah the bands- I heard there were all kinds of great workouts that could be done with bands. I will maybe look into it this weekend.

Well - I went for a jog yesterday and it was nice. This morning I woke up early and went for a walk and that was good. I'm trying to go out early in the day bc there are less people.
The long weekend will be hard for me, because of the isolation and everything but I have a couple plans. I actually have some work to do , so that will help me. Connecting with a couple friends via the Internet.
Saturday I might try a stair routine but walking, not jogging. There is a park I usually go to with a staircase with 100 steps but there are too many people. So I will likely try the stairs in my building, and just do a gentle walk up for a few times and see how the Achilles does. Not as nice as outside but no people.
Trying to get cals on track but I'm slightly over I think.
Take care all.0 -
