I thought I'd start a new thread. I cannot believe the dates I typed for this! Where does the time go? And yet, staying home seems like forever . .

SW: 156
LW: 130.6
TW: 130.6

Looking back over my calendar, this is the start of the 4th week of staying home. A long time, and yet I'm afraid it may be longer, and maybe much longer. I'm hoping for an expedited vaccine.

Speaking of afraid, my neighbor next door is a very active, thin, and intelligent woman about 82 years old who lives alone because her husband died at home a few years back. When he collapsed, she ran over to our house and banged on the door in a frantic plea for help. I called 911 while hubby ran over there with her . . performed CPR, but he was gone. Since then, we keep an eye on her and help her whenever she'll let us, which isn't very often because she is stubbornly independent. She walks her two dogs quite a distance every day, and does volunteer work with one of the dogs at the hospital as a comfort dog. I tend to worry about her, but every time we talk, she insists she's fine and doesn't need a thing. (She's well off, and hires all her help.) About a week ago, she knocked on our back door, a glass slider. She walks to the mailbox everyday, and I could see a piece of mail in her hand, so I thought "another letter of ours placed incorrectly in her box". As soon as I opened the slider, she handed me the letter and after I took it (trying to keep a 6 foot distance) asked how she was getting along. She started telling me how sick she was, with extreme exhaustion, fever, headache, and shortness of breath and a pain in her chest! She started walking back to her house, and she could barely walk, was taking tiny baby steps. I called for my hubby, but as I did, she said she was fine and that her son (who lives in Colorado) was on his way to help her. I was so concerned, I almost followed her, but then remembered how I've been hospitalized many times for pneumonia with asthma complications, have hypertension, and I am 67 years old myself. I took the mail (an unimportant piece) out to the garage and sprayed the hell out of it with Lysol, and left it there, and scrubbed my hands. Late that day, her son arrived there. We talked to him, and he said he was taking her to the hospital.

We both were so concerned for her, but my hubby was kinda mad she had exposed me. He told me of a conversation he'd had with her only about 10 days before this happened, where she said she thought the "media was going crazy over this for political reasons" and it was "just a flu", etc. It became obvious to him that she is a Fox News watcher, and wasn't taking this seriously. So he was extremely concerned that she had contracted it. The next day, her son told us that she was admitted to the hospital, and was undergoing tests, including for Covid. It took a few days, but he informed us that the Covid test was negative, thank God! However, she does have pneumonia due to heart failure. :/ He mentioned "a-fib", but I'm not sure he said that was the diagnosis. She came home the other day (Sunday maybe), and we've sent our well wishes. Her son is still there. I feel bad that I can't go help them, but hubby insists to stay away because now she's been at the hospital where there are Covid patients. This is a crazy, and sad time. :'(

So, that's my way too long scary story. Have to run for now, but I'll check back later to comment on your posts. I hope you're all having a great day. Stay healthy and stay safe.

Man alive! I sincerely hope this is due to the cottage cheese, which is full of salt, and the salted nuts that I had yesterday. I've been lucky the last two weeks to have the low point of my swing show up on Wednesday, but I'm on the high end of that swing today. However, always keeping with my promise to truthfully and regularly log my weight, there she is!

Sheesh, I once again shake my head at how similar we seem. We had a similar thing happen with a neighbor of ours, who we both adored, i.e., he had a heart attack, his wife ran to our house, and hubby did CPR, but unfortunately, his was sudden cardiac death so there was no bringing him back. I'm glad your neighbor's widow has the resources to hire help and a son who can come and stay with her. You are doing the right thing by not going over there. Trust me on that. :)

Our stay at home order in Maryland is a strict "do not enter other homes" type. We can only go for food or medication and must now wear a mask in public. Hubby and I did walk our hilly route tonight and since we were outside and not near anyone, we did not wear masks, but hubby always wear a mask and gloves when he goes to the supermarket or drug store. We are a heavily Democrat state with a Republican governor (go figure!), but in this case, he's listening to the scientists. Maybe with Maryland being home to NIH and Dr. Fauci . . .

Well, I am going to try to get into bed early tonight, i.e., before midnight so I can get up a little earlier and perhaps take an afternoon break to walk tomorrow. It was very nice here today--low 70s and sunny with a little breeze--but cool rain is heading back in tomorrow tonight.

Oh Sheesh - that's so scary - so sorry your neighbor is not feeling well but thankful it's not COVID-19.

I'm holding...at this point just struggling to stay below 230 and the struggle is real. I am still getting in my to/from work walks. Increased the am to 1 mile and keeping the eve to 1/2 mile - it's quite warm in the afternoon, except yesterday when the clouds rolled in and we got some sprinkles in the afternoon.

My chicken from perdue farms arrived...I hope it's delicious because it's not quite the quantity I would have imagined for $100. I did like that they came with 1lb packs each of diced, tenders and thin fillets and about 4lbs of whole chicken breasts. Thinking with shipping this is more a $50-60 value pack and still on the pricier side of organic chicken. But hubby has plenty of chicken for a few weeks now. I did order without really checking what was included so not blaming them at all...just reminding myself to do a bit more investigating before ordering in the future.

AZ hasn't issued the masks to be worn all of the time outside, it's more a personal preference right now. and I'm doing my best to stay away from all others. I am trying to figure out the right time to run to the store - I need gift cards to do some online ordering for baskets I make for my work...I prefer to use gift cards versus my own cards when ordering online plus I get discount fuel points - even tho we're not driving much now, at some point the world will go back to normal and those points will come in handy as I save as much as $1/gal. I buy several hundred dollars in gift cards to accomplish my baskets so that is why I am willing to go....plus we need more salad and snacking fruits - apples or grapes or berries or all three.

Hubby and I just brought down my sewing machine today. I do have some old 600 thread count sheets that have some tears and not usable on the bed anymore. I don't believe we tossed them yet - at least I'm hoping we didn't. I am hoping to use them to make some masks - just in case we need them. I don't enjoy sewing, nor do I sew well enough to be brave enough to make them for others... so I figure I'll try for us first and go from there. I used to quilt, but never really "Enjoyed it per se". I am too much of a perfectionist in the stitching and lining up that I tore out more stitches than kept.

Kelly hoping you're doing well back to work and having the kids home.

    Stay healthy everyone!

Wow that's quite the scary situation Sheesh! Although she didn't test positive, I hope that the outcome with her getting better is a positive one.
That's interesting that it's mandatory to wear masks now in Maryland Sarah. Funny how all areas are doing different things. The provinces in our country are even doing different things and it just makes me shake my head. We're at a relatively low number in Canada (20,765 with 509 deaths) but we've also only tested (375,302). In my province, our numbers as of yesterday were 224 with 3 deaths. One family opted to tell their story to the media and it was a man in his 50's. That's terrifying. I haven't been in public since March 20, but I have gone for walks alone or with Shawn and have been keeping a fair distance away from people. Not many people are out walking anyway as it's been a tad chilly still. We even still had a snow storm a couple days ago, although it's all melted now.
I'm doing good with the eating and working out and while I haven't weighed myself in a while, I know the number is going down. I downloaded an app with my coworker/friend (Joley) and we do the workout every day on it and then send screenshots from our phone to prove we did it. The workouts are only 10 mins or less, but there are some longer ones too. If you're interested, the app is called "Workout for Women" and right now we're both doing the 2 week Covid-19 Immuno Boost 1 program. It's free.. which is right up my alley lol
Lois - the kids were a lot yesterday. I think the hardest part for me is that I like to keep the house clean and I HATE picking up/cleaning up someone else's mess. So we're teaching them to clean up after themselves and to put away things they're using. Most days I feel like a maid lol They have started doing more around the house though (because it earns them screen time) and we had a chat about how we're all living in this house so we have to help. I think they realized it more when I was mad at the end of my 12 hour work day and was cleaning the house... lol
Well although it's Good Friday, I'm still working. I have to get back to this safety report I'm working on.
    Check back later.

    Hi, all,

I'm glad that everyone seems to be doing okay. It's funny how Friday doesn't seem as exciting as it used to be. I always looked forward to getting out of the house, since I always work from home. Now "out of the house" is the patio and maybe walking if the weather permits. We're pretty chilly and super windy again today, though.

Kelly, I live with a man who swore he was neat when I first met him. And he was--in the early days. But now I have trouble getting him to put things away. And I too like order in the house, although you wouldn't know that looking at my office. I deal with so much paper and so many articles and books that it's pretty hard to stay neat there. So between work and hubby's changing habits, I've had to relax my standards a little--but I feel you.

Lois, I also feel that struggle. Last night I took a few minutes to look at my intake and burn over a period of time, and I discovered that if all my days were weekend days, i.e., days that I'm not sitting at a desk for 10+ hours, using 3600 kcal for a pound, I could eat exactly the same and weigh almost 10 pounds less. It's not that I exercise on purpose that much longer on a weekend day, it's just that I don't just sit quietly in one spot for hours at a time. I was not happy to see the increase on the scale this week, and I don't think my work is going to let up for a while, so I need to really put some thought and effort into moving more or moving differently. I really miss those "almost running" walks with Toni.

Hello all. I hope you're surviving the virus and lockdowns okay.

My neighbor has been back home for a few days. Her son stayed for another 3 days, then went home to Colorado. Both of her sons live in Colorado, I think only one is married, and there are no grandchildren. There was a discussion about her moving there after her husband died, but she says she likes it better here. I called her to offer our help with dog walking or groceries, but no surprise, she says she's doing just fine and that she hired a dog walker (we've seen the girl walking the dogs every day) and her son arranged for a nurse to come check on her every day. She sounded very good. She's so stubborn and doesn't want to admit she needs any help. Her son said she had fluid that had to be removed from her heart and respiratory system brought on by heart failure. I don't think she fully understands her condition because she kept repeating that she just couldn't "figure out where she got it". She was saying she had gotten a massage, and she thinks the person gave it to her or it was on the massage table. Since I'm not 100% sure of her diagnosis, I didn't say anything. We'll keep an eye on her, but hubby still doesn't want me to go over there, and I agree... She's been to the ICU.

Sarah, if you've had a lot of salt, I'm sure that's the reason for the temporary weight gain. You've been so disciplined about logging food and tracking everything. I'm not so great at that. If it weren't for my workouts and our habit of only eating twice a day, I'm sure I would gain, especially with the stress and boredom snacking that's come into play since the stay at home orders. Keep up with the treadmill . . as boring as it is. We've gone out for walks outside, masks around our necks until somebody comes along . . then it's 8 - 10 feet, and masks up, lol!

Lois, how are you dealing with not being around Rhea? I miss my grandkids so much it hurts. :'( Sent them an Easter Basket (ordered online for safety), and FaceTime or Zoom, but it hurts that I can't touch them. You're very dedicated with the healthy meal preparation! I'm making halibut tonight, so I'll look through my recipes to find one where I have all the ingredients. I've been ordering our groceries online, and trying not to very often. Our Kroger store here provides free pick up, brought to and loaded in our car. Between that, and the early Costco run we did and fish in the freezer, we'll survive. :D

Kelly, your Province is doing pretty well against this virus. It is terrifying, so stay safe. It doesn't take a lot for community spread to take off, it seems. Those workouts sound great. I'll look into that app. Hang in there with the mess kids make. . I well remember.
