We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday- Al_Howard
Tuesday- Whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday- misterhub (Greg)
Thursday-imastar2 (Derrick)
Friday- 88olds (George)
Today Topic: Plateaus and dealing with them.
Many times we deal with Plateaus.
1. What has worked for you in the past to start a downward trend?
2. If your on maintenance what works for you to slow down an upward trend?

I just finished my reply and hit post and it dissapeared into space now I have to recreate my post I just finished. I hate it when that happens. I must have hit done at the top of the page instead of post reply.🤯0

Don’t you HATE that! Been there, done that.
Two thoughts on plateaus
1. Patience and stick to the plan. Check that you are weighing and counting how much you eat.
2. Make a change to your usual food you eat. A change may help.0 -
Yeah lost one posting yesterday somewhere. For me if I am following the plan I don't change anything for a brief plateau. On maintenance I double down on things like watching a craft brewed beverage, desert sweets, salty treats and the like. I seem to be currently mostly drifting slowly downward.0

When I know the plateau is truly the scale waiting to catch up to my calorie deficit, I try to focus my attention on something besides the number on the scale. Sometimes it's just a waiting game.0

I'm currently experiencing a plateau all be it so far a short one. So during my recovery from surgery complications it's been an interesting period. Like most people you'd think during this pandemic shelter in place we'd have all the time in the world. Oh no! hadn't turned out that way for me. It seems I'm busier than ever. Some with work but mostly going to Dr.'s some 20 odd times since 1/01/20.
Anyway does no good to complain about not having enough time. It is and always has been about priorities and scheduling.
So while I seem not to have enough time it's clearly my fault for not organizing my time thus prioritizing time to planning meals and prioritizing time for preparation.
I met yesterday Friday 4/24/20 with my dietitian via Zoom and we had a great session for 1 hour. One important thing she said so I'll pass it along about my wound care. She said concentrate on getting in protein. Protein helps to heal wounds. She works with lots of bariatric patients and protein helps heal wounds. We hadn't met since 12/23/20. I actually looked back and haven't tracked in my MFP food diary since Friday a week ago. That is unacceptable to me.
So here in lies the issue I am dealing with. I need to slow the heck down and prioritize planning meals, tracking, and select the correct portions to go on my plate. Stick with the 1700 calories proportionally allocated needed to have a balanced diet.
There!!! I didn't mean to rant but I get so fed up and frustrated with myself I just want to **;#^@! 🤯

Interesting that this appeared on my MFP home page immediately after viewing this thread.
