Strength Training at home

Hi guys, this is a question more directed to anyone in general who is part of this group, figured this would be the best place to post this instead of in the general forum, I hope thats ok.
Recently I've joined resistence classes which I am finding very beneficial as the instructor is showing me proper form for things such as deadlifts and shoulder presses. I'm new to strength training so this has helped a lot.
I'm looking for advice on how to continue this at home, the class is once a week so I would be interested in doing 2 more days at home....just wondering is this possible? I was directed towards the AllPRo routine and want to read into this further but is access to a gym essential and if so can anyone recommend any routines that can be done from home and what equipment I would need to buy.
Right now i'm looking at buying barbells with a selection of weights.
Very appreciative of any advice given, as it is probably so obvious at this stage i'm very new to all this but i want to do it right.

If you've got the room, a rack, bar, and plates is a good start!0

Depending on how much room you have, a bench and dumbbells is a good start. If you can get a rack/power cage and barbells, even better.
You can modify the AllPro routine for dumbbells - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/902569-barbell-routines-when-you-only-have-dumbbells0 -
