We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday- misterhub (Greg)
Tuesday- whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday-MASSRUNNER (Frank)
Thursday- beachwoman2006 (Cindy)
Friday- imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's topic: Living YOUR Lifestyle
How do you feel Living the Lifestyle applies to living YOUR lifestyle?
Are there areas of conflict? annoyance? perfect symbiosis?
And does it affect your weight loss? adherence to the Plan? mood or motivation?

I try to get things to a point where, "This is just the way I do things." That means building habits. With weight-loss, specifically, I attempt to have those habits reflect the best practices reflected in Living the Lifestyle. The right foods. The right portions. The right activities.
I have my greatest health successes when I am living my lifestyle in this fashion.2 -
I'm doing the best I can living a cooperative lifestyle between losing weight and living a normal lifestyle. I do have to work at it so there are as few annoyances and conflicts as possible while carrying on a Lifestyle that's palatable to me and DW
The occasions as of late for mood or depression issues are becoming less frequent as the days go on. I contribute this to the fact that I made a decision to carry through with making yet again another hard run at getting the next 100 lbs off. So with that decision of making this work I also know I've got to keep a positive attitude and no matter the ups and downs the goal has always been there and I only have to adjust my plans as I go along.

How do you feel Living the Lifestyle applies to living YOUR lifestyle? My lifestyle, esp in the summer, includes a lot of point friendly grilled foods, fresh fruits and vegetables. But also, more alcohol, snacks, sweets, and all around foods that are more challenging to manage OP (the kids and the cottage are esp challenging).
Are there areas of conflict? Not really.
The only conflict is between what I want and what's best for my health. annoyance? Yup, my mom likes to make all my favs, and they are never point friendly, so I'm torn between being grateful she cooks for me, not wanting to hurt her feelings, not wanting to open Pandora's box by trying to take a small portion, and wanting to eat ginormous amounts 🤦 perfect symbiosis? At home often. Out, not so much.
And does it affect your weight loss?
Yes, slows me down and causes me to gain on the weekend, what I lost during the week
adherence to the Plan? My points skyrocket, but I can sometimes stay within the allowed points. Unfortunately, I don't lose when I max my points, maybe because they're too many for me, or maybe because I guesstimate incorrectly
mood or motivation? Always feel better in my skin when I'm eating well, and that is always motivating.3 -
I think Living the Lifestyle is a very fluid concept. Hence my question related to living YOUR lifestyle.
Generally speaking I is dislike the term for completely different reasons. Not hard to guess.
If I think about how the Plan relates to lifestyle and how it is not meant to be the Decalogue, but a guide, I am more at ease and do not feel either constrained nor regulated. Consequently if I feel like Hershey’s kisses at 9 pm, I am going to have one, possibly two, but never three. There is a guideline after all. This works for me and without a doubt I know that this process is a result of listening to wiser Goadies over the years. Adherence to the Plan becomes simpler this way and less annoyance since there are few hard and fast regulations. Will weight and mood fluctuate? Sure they will. No biggie. The Plan is there to revisit and work within when I am ready.1 -
My lifestyle has changed over the last several years.
A number of years ago, TOL and I would go through 2-3 30 packs of cheap light beer a week. Now I drink good beer on the 3 day weekend, or 4 day if everyone is off on Monday.
The Plan still gives me good guidelines to keep from ballooning back up, and slowly continue to lose. And, yes, it is revisited on a fairly regular basis.1
