We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - misterhub (Greg)
Tuesday - Al_Howard (Al)
Wednesday - Wild Card
Thursday - Wild Card
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)

Today's Topic: Fruits & Veggies & Influences.

#1 Fruits & Vegetables, fresh or frozen including all types. What part does fruits & vegetables play in your LTL journey. Do you think fruits & vegetables are an important daily dietary option or do you feel it's a necessity.

#2. Influences: Do you have anything that tends to influence your daily meal and food choices? Examples; nutritional value, losing, maintaining, balanced meals, food choices, sweets, sugar, clothes, attitude. Influences are almost endless.

#1: TOL and I usually cook, and eat 2 16 oz. bags of frozen veggies. Or, if using fresh, about 2 pounds total, after peeling and trimming. Also 5 1/2 oz. of potatoes (usually with skins). If using canned, 2 cans, and we always try for reduced salt. So, I'd say, we thing veggies are very important.
#2: Yup! Pretty much all of the above. Also, what was on sale at the store(s).

#1. Fruits and Veggies are pretty much a necessity as far as I can wrap my head around them. Getting them in some days is another question altogether. DW and I have pretty much gone to frozen bags of fresh mixed fruits and have been using frozen bags of fresh veggies forever. Of late however since my surgeries I have been limit them to fresh only without seasoning ie; butter or sauces. This seems to add sodium and I'm trying to stick to heart healthy sodium intake which is about 1500 mg daily and turns out to be quite the challenge. When one eats out a lot I find the sodium goes through the roof.

I also take a private label fruits and veggies supplement simply because I know I don't always get them in. According to my Nutritionist Fruits and Veggies are pretty much a necessity for a healthy balanced daily diet. This I find is something that I really have to concentrate on and make a priority every single meal. I find that a lot of time my attitude towards fixing them is messed up. It boils down to making it a priority.

#2. Influences? I'm with @Al_Howard on this one. Seems like just about every I eat is influenced by something. Currently healthy is my priority which is influenced by time and planning. So priorities become kcals, nutrition, time to eat within 4 hrs of each meal, balanced meals, and portions.

Weight loss! is the biggest influence and affects my daily attitude as far as priority is concerned. Loss or Gains can effect my attitude almost instantly along with portions. Eat too much? I'm bummed out eat too little? I'm hungry and might overeat so balance is really a key in this area. Clothes, what people think? don't influence me so much. Of course I want to look nice but clothes and dress accordingly do wonders for weight disguise. Sweets are a bummer towards my attitude as of late. I love different sweets cookies ice cream cake chocolates Hershey's bars and the list goes on but they are just not my friend and I had to decide that those are triggers number 1 and 2nd they are addictive. So for the most part off limits.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and have a good GoaD bon appetit!

    #1 Fruit and Veggies
I use tons of fresh veggies, depending on what is in season, onion, peppers, zucchini, yellow sq, butternut, potatoes (white, red, yellow, and sweet), carrots, asparagus, gr beans, ... Mostly roasted, sometimes in stir fry or in an egg scramble. They're a great filled and have good nutritional and digestive value!

Lots of fruit too, also go pretty seasonal, peaches, cherries, strawberries and watermelon are all amazing right now. Also great part of a healthy diet.

    #2. Influences:
I choose my food based on what sounds good, is on sale, and works well into my DPs. I'm on purple, so I tend to eat a lot of zero point protein, esp. chicken! Also, DH has high cholesterol, so I try not to serve beef more than once a week.

My snacks are totally dependant on what sounds good. Since I eat measured portions, cost isn't a huge factor since they go a long ways.

Before joining WW I didn’t eat much fruit. 2-3 bananas a week. Maybe an apple. Now I probably eat 3 servings every day.

Veggies. Dinner is usually protein and fresh veggies. Fresh is so easy now.

#1 influencer is probably what I did yesterday. I’m really into habits. With this covid19 business I’m approaching Groundhog Day. And my calorie target. I try to stay around my #.

1 Fruits and veggies like a 5 year old I hate em!
Having said that leads to my grudging acceptance that they are a nesscity in my diet. I tend to prefer fresh most of all, so mostly banana's and blueberries, with an occasional apple or peach thrown in (I am allergic to strawberries and really do not like the taste of most melons) Veggies tend to be roasted with a sprinke of a good balsamic at the end.
    2. Influences change depending on the date and time! Early on it was all about health (I Joined WW due to having a heart attack) Sometimes it still is. Clothes not so much about the way they look as the way they feel. Weight loss is a huge one.

I eat lots of veggies but not as much fruit. I start with a veggie omelette and always have vegetable for dinner too. Important for my digestive health amongst other things. I should eat more fruit and less indulgences.
WW groups have helped me to stay more on my better lifestyle. Of course health issues.
