Holding steady, but that's not what I want.

Cali family had a total reprieve with clear skies and sunshine today . . my son sent a picture of the kiddos playing outside . . it was funny because they were squinting so much! Not used to seeing that sun out, lol. Oregon family is still in the smoke soup, and they're feeling really cooped up. They have a dog and are used to at least walking him . . we had a zoom call last night with everyone, and they're all fine, but really sick of all this. Me too!

Sarah, congratulations on your reduction last time. And, don't let them suck you back into doing your old job AND a new one! Glad you have choices . . take your time. Now's when you can up your workouts and whatever else you want to do ;)

Lois, you're doing a great job as a DIL. Probably your MIL doesn't appreciate it, but just know that you are a blessing in her life as well as you're hubby's. Be sure to take time for yourself too. Like Sarah said, we have to think about our own aging process and quality of life. There aren't enough hours in the day, but we should let some things slide in order to care for our health. I want to be posting with you ladies when I'm 80!! B)

I had a good cardio workout yesterday, and today I did strength training. I haven't been to the cabin since the power has been out, so tomorrow I should head up there to check on it. I'm not sure when we'll get that tree out . . I was trying to convince hubby that we aren't young enough to do it ourselves like we used to. I'm hoping to hire some help. Men never think they have limitations until it's too late. Wish me luck convincing him. Lois, our daughter here and her fiancé have gone to the cabin this summer quite a bit. Good thing we didn't sell it because it's been the only break from being at home or around our neck of the woods. I really miss travel.

Great news about the Cali family! We still have a little bit of a haze in our skies - again, they're all saying here its from the Cali fires.

Sarah - I agree with Sheesh - stand up for yourself and pick what you want to do next and what's best for YOU!

So hubby and I had a deep discussion the other night and I believe we're ready to get on track - together! I went through the Instant Loss cookbooks I bought and picked several recipes. He's agreed to help me with chopping etc this weekend and we'll start in earnest next week. Saturday night we are going to brave the restaurants and attempt to go out for my birthday crab to Red Lobster. If it's busy - we'll order to go from another restaurant nearby but it if it's not...crab legs here we come

Almost two pounds! Yikes! This was not expected as my steps have been higher and my intake about the same, so I thought at the very least, I'd stay the same. Sorry to be late in posting. I did remember to weigh and this is my Wednesday weight.

I'm learning how much harder it is to log on and log food and check the board when you aren't forced to sit at a desk all day. LOL I have to get into some kind of new routine. But aside from the new lifestyle, I've also been battling an eye problem this week that has made it hard for me to see well. It started about a week and a half ago. I opened a new batch of contacts for the first time. I had a slight prescription change (my nearsightedness is actually improving) and for about half a day, I was delighted. I could see better and they were comfortable. But in the late afternoon, my vision got cloudy. Not blurry--cloudy. I still had one new set of contacts from my former batch, so I used those the next day, and things were better for a day or two, but then I had some cloudiness again. And to make a long story short, my right eye started stinging and the lid was swollen in the mornings. Spending a couple of days in my glasses didn't help, so I got to my eye doc yesterday. She said the cornea looks good but the underside of the lid looks irritated and her best guess is that the company that makes my contacts made some type of change in the fluid they store lenses in and I had a reaction to that. She gave me some anti-inflammatory eye drops and said hopefully it will clear it up. Cross my fingers. But having your eyes bothering you affects your whole body, and so the past couple of days, I've been off my game.

Sheesh, I'm glad to hear that your kids are all okay and I agree with you that we have to accept that we can't do all the physical stuff we used to do. We can do ordinary yard work, but the heavy stuff and stuff that requires high ladders--nope! The one thing I miss about working is having enough income to just say, "hire it done." We're okay--can pay the bills--but we have to watch the extras now. So hubby actually did one thing we had planned to farm out and saved us almost $300 this week!

I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but back in late 1990s, hubby went into business for himself and there were a couple of years he paid his staff but not himself and for a couple of years he paid himself, but very little. And just when it looked like he was finally going to get a jewel of a contract that would make all the sacrifice worth it, the law changed so that he would have had to have a physician on staff full time and he couldn't quite do that yet. (Docs want to make a lot of money. LOL) So he could not bid on the jewel of a contract and had to go back to working as a contractor. I'm glad we had the nerve to give it a whirl, and if the law had not changed, it would have been a great thing for us, but now we're seeing the hole it put in our savings and in his eventual social security. But oh well. Better than lying awake wondering what would have happened if we had taken the chance.

So, I will try to log in more often. I do notice that when I do that, I do better with both intake and activity. Fancy that ! Lois, I hope you get a chance to get those crab legs for your birthday. I know how much you love them. We not eaten inside a restaurant since early March, but in this area, a lot are offering outdoor dining. In Frederick, Maryland, which is where we do a lot of our shopping, they have even closed some streets in areas with a lot of restaurants to offer more outdoor dining space. Literally--there are tables set up in the streets. It's kind of cool. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Oh sarah - praying your eye problems have resolved themselves. I had a situation like that many years ago when I wasn't a progressive lens wearer. Something in their solution irritated the heck out of me. I took them back and ordered new ones in a different brand. It burned like the holy dickens and my eyes swelled up.

So I was a good girl yesterday - well partially. So hubby had committed to a new meal plan and agreed to assist in the kitchen (he didn't make it fun, but I did need his help with chopping veggies so I kept my mouth shut - for once). Anyway we made four meals from the two instant loss cookbooks, jerk chicken with jicama slaw (thought the jicama was spoiled we assembled the rest and he will pick up a new one after his workout class today); egg roll in a bowl, orange chicken and tuscan chicken. We are pairing them all with 1/2 c of rice. Going for JERF (just eat regular food - attempting to move away from eating out and processed foods). This morning I have banana bread oatmeal in the pressure cooker for breakfast. Anyway preparing those meals took us about 4 hours (hubby wasn't always present) and lots of measuring. Trying to put some thought into how to expedite that process next round. And we made all four meals as we're really trying to get hubby to eat more during the day. He's become dependent on Muscle Milk for most of his intake in the morning and lunch and then he eats all of his calories when he comes home. Keep in mind, he doesn't go to bed until 2 or 3am so he's not necessarily eating and then going to bed but its as if I've finished a workday and then sat down and consumed 1800 calories and then did nothing for four hours before going to bed. Oh and I portioned out all of the meals for all three of us. MIL might have too much in hers, but for hubby and I, it should work.

So day 1 of eating our new foods.
I did have my usual egg sandwich from Starbucks (ordered without thinking).
When I got home I did make the banana nut bread oatmeal and had a cup of that for my 10am snack. It was quite tasty and I had it for breakfast again this morning.

For lunch I enjoyed the egg roll bowl. Looked kinda gross as it was cooked with purple cabbage so it took on the color. It tasted ok. I would like a stronger taste, so I will evaluate the recipe and possibly increase or double the seasonings. Also, I have to keep it not too spicy for MIL taste buds. WIth the egg roll bowl, 1/2 c jasmine rice and a small side salad. For dinner I wasn't too hungry so I had a baby bell cheese wedge and some veggies with the home made jalapeno cilantro hummus we made from the cookbook.

Hubby had the better than take out orange chicken for lunch with rice and a salad. He said it was missing the "kick" so I reminded him that I left out the crushed red pepper because of his mom. so he added some and smiled. So I may try that one today for lunch. Again, our goal this week is to eat more real foods, migrate away from the protein shakes and fast food.

    Hope everything is going well.

Sheesh - hoping you were able to hire someone to clean up the tree at the cabin and that all is well up there.
