Control solution for test strips

Good morning. Not sure if I've asked this before, but here goes.
My control solution expired this morning.
Do we REALLY need to do a control test every time we change vials of test strips?
Or, can we only do it if the vial gets damaged somehow.

I claim no. I got a vial of it, but everything was consistent from batch to batch. Has that been your experience?0

Pretty much. I mean, the solution is free, but strips aren't. Thanks for answering.0
