Hey everyone...I know I didn't start a Friday Thread last week but I was totally zoned out for the last couple of weeks.
We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - misterhub (Greg)
Thursday - Wild Card!!!
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's Topic: "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
I thought I would ask this question about the statement above.
Where does your mind go when you read that straight forward but oh so powerful statement.
Trivia Question: I've been in over 10-11 years and I have no idea who prepared that statement for this thread can you answer the question?

It just makes me think about last week on vacation. We prepped most meals. Ordered out 3. All healthy, low point (except DHs brisket, I ate smoked chicken). I lived the lifestyle I've been living for 16 weeks, and honestly, it wasn't bad at all. I made sure I took all my favorites (asian marinated pork tenderloin, lean steak, @MASSRUNNER_FRANK 's italian turkey meatball, pound dropper cheesecake). I actually looked forward to meals in.
What was interesting to me is that I still struggled a few days after we got home. I wanted everything! I didn't see that coming. Figured I'd coast right on since I never went off program, but I went into normal post vacation mode. Funny what the mind does.
The other thought this brings to mind is an optimistic hope that my ww lifestyle will become more and more the norm for me. Time will tell.0 -
"It's a lifestyle, not a diet" reminds me of what some Goadie said BITD, "it's a death march".1

My first thought is that “it’s just the way I do things.”1

I can’t weigh 175 lbs living a 225 lb life.
A diet is something you go on. The idea that at some point I’m going off of it seems to be baked in the cake. Being “on” something makes a departure from normal. If I go back to the old normal I’m going back to the old weight. Just how it is.
The alternative is to embrace a new way of living. It’s gotta be one way or another.
Trivia: Maybe if Cindy see this she might know. I started in 2006 and have no idea.0 -
Re. the trivia question, if you Google it, many programs come up. Someone may have introduced it to the group, but it was probably borrowed from somewhere.1

The statement is an aphorism that states the truth. Diets don't work. Ever. Even though lifestyle is a very broad term it does suggest the inclusion of many things, such as exercise, food, health, sleep, stress management and more. The pandemic has made a healthy lifestyle much more routine for me. It is a way of being.

@linmuller After reading that statement I've never thought to Google it.
Every week and most everyday for so many years I've read that statement. It did soak in pretty quick but like it states not so easy to practice. I have always done my best to shun the food items that put the lbs on and right off the bat years ago let go of many foods that weren't healthy.
I'll never forget one evening DW and I went out to supper many many years ago. The restaurant was famous for fried chicken tenders and a 12 inch high pole with golden fried onion rings. Less I forget they always brought out hot garlic butter sourdough bread. They came out by the platters full and as I looked on it was amazing that .out people eating that dish like me really didn't need it. I had that decision though and stuck with my grilled chicken breast and pilaf rice with a green vegetable. It really wasn't that hard simply because I had decided to change my life style.
But in the end a lifestyle change had to become my way of life. I still love a good juicy all the hamburger to this day.😄

Kinda like Greg. I have been doing this so long I think of it more of a lifestyle, warts and all. I too think of "diet" as popularly used as a short to fix to lose X number of pounds.1

@imastar2 , that meal sounds amazing! but like you, I would have no problem ordering a healthy choice, but, ONLY because I know DH would order the deliciousness, and I could have 1 onion ring and a bite of a tender 😁. Moderation is my friend!2
