Should I be doing a maintenance cals reset?

Hi all.

I started doing Crossfit on July 1st and quickly realized I needed to up my calories if I didn't want to pass out on the floor. I upped my calories slow-ish over the month of July and have been eating at TDEE minus 10% since the last week in July.

For the month of July, I lost 4 lbs and a bunch of inches. So far for August, I'm up 5 lbs (and the scale says the exact same number every day, regardless of any changes in routine) and my waist and hip measurements are up 1/2"-1" each.

My background before was a combination of trying to eat enough and randomly bingeing for a few days. I haven't tried to stick to 1200 cals for several months, but before that it was yo-yo dieting all the way.

Am I on the right track? Or should I be doing a full TDEE reset?

It could well be that your body is still suffering from the yo-yo dieting and therefore a TDEE reset may be a good idea.

Definitely go with the re-set, especially with the history of yo-yo dieting. Eat at maintenance consistently for 8 - 12 weeks, and then go to your 10 - 15% cut. You really want to "train" your metabolism of what Maintenance Calories are and get it stabilized and trusting that your intake will be consistent and adequate before you start that cut...
