We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - misterhub (Greg)
Thursday - linmueller (Lin)
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's Topic: Social Dining
Eating out: What is your go to order in a restaurant? Breakfast? Lunch?
Mexican? Italian? Chinese? American? Misc?
Alternate question, if eating out is so far back in your memory you can't, or don't want to go there: What do you make for company that's easy on your points/calories count? Main dish? Sides? Dessert?

Breakfast? Omelet no cheese, lots of veggies, hot sauce on top. Today, I the omelet of choice was veggies and feta, so good! Dry, multi grain toast. Hold the potatoes.
Lunch? If they have it, my 1st choice is a bowl w/a grain ie. quinoa, variety of veggies, and spice.
Mexican? Usually a burrito, eat half, and tighten up the rest of the day.
Italian? I usually just have a piece of pizza or part of a personal pizza. Sometimes add a salad, but usually just know it's going to be a popcorn night.
Chinese? No clue, but would love some ideas
American? Lean steak, salad no cheese, croutons, and with a vinegarette on the side, a hit veg if they have one I like or a baked potato w/I butter.
Misc? BBQ - smoked chicken, cuccumber salad, lettuce salad same as above
Alternate question, if eating out is so far back in your memory you can't, or don't want to go there: What do you make for company that's easy on your points/calories count?
Main dish? Pork tenderloin, in an Asian marinade or salmon, both grilled.
Sides? Roasted potatoes and veggies w/evoo & seasoning.
Dessert? Lately just a plate of nuts and trader Joe chocolates. I can leave these alone and DH eats them. For the grand kids I bought mini ice cream sandwiches. They're the size of a double stuffed oreo. I could definitely work that into my plan.

Breakfast - it used to be an omelette, but since dairy allergy, I've switched to eggs (scrambled or over medium) with a fruit cup. Depending what I have planned the rest of the day, I might add a side of bacon or sausage. Oatmeal is also nice from restaurant. I'm a big fan of "breakfast all day," so I would eat the eggs/bacon any time.
Lunch - salad with protein and dressing on the side; scoop of chicken or tuna salad on greens depending what's in their mix (many include dairy) or if gluten free bread is available, I might splurge
Dinner - I love fish and usually order it at a restaurant. I cook it at home, but I'm less adventurous.
Italian - tough because of gluten and dairy issues; gluten free pasta with meat sauce and eat only half; salad with protein,
Mexican - tough because of dairy; shrimp and rice, burrito with no cheese that I deconstruct and eat only the filling
Indian - I love Indian and some of the curries can be made dairy free if you ask
Chinese - beef and broccoli, chicken with cashews if chicken not breaded; neither are low points/calorie but a little goes a long way
At home - pork tenderloin, cod with a Veracruz type sauce, spatchcock roasted chicken; roasted veggies, greens cooked with a bit of bacon, onions, chicken stock and hot sauce
Dessert - this is where I fall down on the allergy front as most have gluten/dairy; at a restaurant, I'll have a bite of a shared dessert

Since out weigh-in day is Friday, at 9AM, we ate (notice the tense) out on Friday evening. And, I usually guesstimated the points for what ever I ate, and drank.
Breakfast, a big omelet with cheese, and sausage on the side.
Lunch, a burger and fries.
Dinner a nice filet mignon, baked potato and a Greek side salad. Washed down with a couple of schooner of Sam Boston lager, or a good porter.
Dessert, NY cheesecake, if available.
At home, I make a mean pork tenderloin, a couple of scallop dishes (sea scallops sautéed with a touch of real maple syrup, or an au gratin with bay scallops) Dessert is usually ice cream not long before bed.

Except for the current madness I eat out a lot. Probably at least 1X per day. When I was working I almost always went out for lunch. Saturday was usually some sort of get together for lunch and Sunday was reserved for lunch out with the kids. Then add dinners out 2-3 X per on top of that.
Fortunately I like diners. My diner go to is some sort of veggie egg beater omelet, tomatoes instead of potatoes, rye toast not butter. The family of course prefers family dining chains. Grilled chicken Caesar, dressing on the side. For a change of pace I came to be a fan of wrap sandwiches but beware of how they are made. Shrimp or chicken fajitas can work.
Fortunately the area where we lived had a lot of Mediterranean restaurants. Lots of plan friendly choices there.0 -
Not too much restaurant dining g in since January of this year.
Breakfast @ home varieties but mostly oatmeal with ff greek plain yogurt and wild frozen blueberries mixed in. Eggs grits toast and turkey sausage patty or When dining out scrambled with cheese or omelet.
Lunch: Salad and sandwich or soup and sandwhich.
Diner: Various chicken variuos recipes beef ground or steak Friday nights and also fish or lean pork tenderloin bakes.
Italian usually some form of pizza
Chinese very seldom but vegetables and chicken or some variation there of.
Mexican not much at all there either due my getting out of control with the chips and salsa.
Mainly concentrating on in home damage control.😁

Thanks for some good ideas. I'm in a rut and will definitely use some of these (tho probably not the lager, porter or cheesecake @Al_Howard LOL)1
