We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - misterhub (Greg)
Thursday - linmueller (Lin)
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's Topic: What is something that’s given you a boost when you needed it? An NSV, something you read somewhere, some advice that you got, anything that helped you over a hump. Why do you think it had the impact that it did? How did it help?

I think it’s seeing health numbers (BP, blood work, etc.) fall into the “normal” range. It gives me that “well, I’m in great shape for the shape I’m in!” glow.
Really, my motivation for starting this twisted journey twelve years ago was to try to keep from ending up in a nursing home or a burden to others. That may happen regardless, but hopefully it will be for reasons that are beyond my control. (And there are those who would say I’m a burden to others already!)0 -
Good grief. I answered this on Monday. Wonder where that went.0

Lost in the ozone.
The thing that keeps coming to mind is actually a SV. It was when I lost weight that first week on WW. I think I was over my points too. But I had the newbie loss of about 2 lbs anyway. Week 1 had been an important week. Mostly because when I found I had unwittingly blown up my numbers I kept tracking anyway. No throwing up my hands with the start over later.
But I had been stuck for so long before joining WW I was starting to think of myself in the too damaged to lose anymore group. But at the end of that first week I could see that wasn’t true. I could see that even if I made mistakes it could still work. I was a big boost.1 -
I remember so well that I started WW and was doing all the things necessary to lose weight and had a little success but it just wasn't clicking. I had lost about 18 lbs but then stalled out.
It was then that I had my sleep study then a continuance with another study to determine my pressures or subscription. When that was rectified and I got on a bi/pap machine my world changed. Besides the values of sleep my ferocious appetite went away. It was simply amazing what a boost that gave me. I went to loose my 1st 100 lbs but success since 2002-2003 has been a true struggle.0 -
What helps me the most is the reality that others have done it. There are very few things that I am incapable of accomplishing. I may not be able to perform like Michael Jordan out on the basketball court, but I can lose weight. The fact that others have done that reinforces my capabilities. But, I have to remain focused. A lack of focus is pretty dangerous sometimes.1
