I am truly surprised and doubt that my post-Thanksgiving weight will be that low, but I'm grateful to see a little movement finally. As I mentioned before, I'm concerned about what will happen if I take this new job. If indeed it's less stress and less desk time that has gotten me going, it could come screeching to a halt. But I guess I'll just have to do the best I can and try to keep my activity and intake a little higher and lower, respectively, than I was doing before.
I finally got a few answers to the some of the questions I asked in yesterday's zoom meeting about this potential part-time position, and it sounds like they need two or three full time people! But I'm trying not to project. I am far too good at that (says the woman with a knot in her stomach already!).
I am cutting this short in case one of you is also online doing the same thing I'm doing! If I don't get back here, happy Thanksgiving and everyone please be safe.

Well, that's to be expected as I was pigging out on pizza yesterday. But, I have been really quite good about workouts. I'm registered for a virtual 5K my DIL is sponsoring in Cali . . a "turkey trot". However, we can do it any day over the holiday weekend, so hubby and I are doing it Friday. So, I did strength training for the last session on Sunday, and I've done jogging and sprinting to train for the race. I'm sure my time won't be that great, but it's motivating and something to do.
Kelly, it's awesome to see you on the board! I've missed you. I'm not on Facebook due to all the political crap around here that is so discouraging to me, but Sarah has said you look happy and told us you got a new position close to home. That's so great. And you're right that family is more important than money. I'm also sending you and Shawn good thoughts for his foot. And good thoughts for the puppy too. How fun! I've always had dogs, and when we first moved into this house we had two. But, when my yellow lab had to be put down, it broke my heart. We said "no more dogs" because we wanted to travel a lot. But, now, with Covid especially, I'm yearning for another dog. Glad you're back . . and I hope you can check in from time to time now.
Sarah, your reduction is awesome!! You're lost a lot! You're really inspiring me to try to get my weight under 130 again. And congratulations on your new position. I hope they don't try to squeeze full time work out of a part time position. I hope your sister feels better. I wonder what is causing her pain?
Lois, I'm glad you're being careful and that your sister has been careful before coming for Thanksgiving. I haven't checked Arizona's numbers recently, but our Covid numbers are just awful! We'll be doing just us and our daughter and her fiancé here (we'll sit 6 feet from them), with a Zoom party later for the rest of us in Cali and Oregon. I "played" with my grands in Cali today online. Even the 2.5 year old got on and colored with me
You are so lucky to be able to spend time with Rhea
My sister is recovering at home. I talked to her today, and she sounds weak, but she says she's improving. I guess hiatal hernias can come and go, so they gave her medication and said that surgery is the last option. She's 73 and not in very good shape, so I'm sure they don't want her to go through a surgery, and neither do I. All of her family is here, but they are still doing Zoom Thanksgiving tomorrow. Dear God, the vaccine can't get here soon enough.
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! (Kelly, I think Canada already had theirs) I'm thankful for you ladies.. the dieting and accountability is great, but the friendship I feel is wonderful! Even though it's online, I think of you often and consider you my friends.0 -
Oh my goodness. Welcome back Kelly!!! You’ve been missed. Happy to hear the new position is working out for you and your family!! And the puppy!! Oh be sure to post pics do we can see him. Fun times ahead. Hoping Shawn’s foot is ok!! 2020 has stunk beyond words.
The owners of our company sent out an email for thanksgiving and it was an awesome reminder to look at what we are grateful for. This really warmed my heart and I’ve thought of a couple of things that make me feel grateful and blessed. One of the biggest things I am grateful for was my son and his wife, her parents and us making a plan and commitment to one another to limit our exposure and think about all 8 of us before going anywhere and doing anything. We consider ourselves one family unit or household. We don’t meet others outside of our “family” often and if we do we are very cautious, careful and allow the time in between before we see one another. I don’t think I’d be in a good place mentally or emotionally if I weren’t able to see them during this whole time. I am beyond words grateful for you ladies. Having the connection with you and being able to share without judgment and the support you share is immeasurable to me. I know my numbers have gone up and I know I’ll find my mindset again but I can’t beat myself up. If I didn’t have you gals - again the emotional and mental state could have been compromised. So thank you - all of you. I’ve had some tough times this past year but you ladies have helped me through many of them.
I had a Rhea boot camp day again today and I’m exhausted. I’m cooking in the morning and then Rhea time before her nap.
Kelly we have all missed you. Sarah and Sheesh happy thanksgiving.0 -

Meh.. it's just a number, right Sarah?! lol It's a blah number but oh well. Time to work on it. I actually thought it was going to be a bit higher. Time to get it down and the major thing is it's time to start feeling better. My anxiety has been through the roof and I have been feeling crappy about myself. I know this is from lack of exercise. It's winter here now, so walking outside isn't the most fun thing to do, but I just need to get over myself and do it. The puppy will definitely help with that! On top of that, we are starting to finish our basement, so the treadmill is tucked away and unplugged. My goal is to get it plugged back in and get back on it. I need to increase my step count for sure, as I'm barely getting 6000 steps most days since starting my new job.
Sarah - that's a great loss! And congrats on the new position! Working less is definitely great and part time is even better. With my new job I only work Tuesday-Friday right now and I work 7:00am-4:15pm. It's great having a long weekend every weekend.
Sheesh - I was reading back on the posts since September and noticed you have been going through some pretty significant medical issues. I hope things are getting better for you. It sounds like taking the allergy pills seem to be helping. Very strange. Great job on doing the turkey trot! That sounds like fun!
Lois - It's great to be back! I definitely missed you ladies and seriously thought and talked about you gals all the time with my husband. I especially thought about you ladies during your election. It was very entertaining for us up north... although it did drag out lol
Shawn doesn't get his bloodwork results back until Friday, but his X-rays came back clear, so that's good news. Unfortunately it's looking more and more like it might be gout, so the doctor gave him some anti-inflammatory pills and some gout medication for a week. We'll see on Friday when he calls Shawn for his follow up. He's in less pain today but still can't walk on his foot. It's an improvement though because yesterday it was so swollen he couldn't put on a sock and could barely touch his foot, but today he put on a sock and can move his foot around more... so that's plus.
Happy Thanksgiving to you ladies!!0 -
Kelly. It is just a number. An important number so we know what to do. But just a number.

Hope everyone has had a good day. We had an unseasonably warm one, so even though it was close to dusk when we got out, we were able to do our hilly route.
Kelly, I hope Shawn's foot is feeling some better. We have a close friend who had terrible gout when he was about Shawn's age. I have not heard him complain in a long time, so they must be able to treat it pretty well.
Sheesh and Lois, I hope your meals with the part of your families you are able to see was lots of fun. We really missed going to our friend's home this year. We've had Thanksgiving with them for probably 15 years. But we know lots of couples who had a twosome, so we concentrated on the many things we do have to be grateful for and we talked to lots of folks on the phone today and caught up a small group of friends via zoom a short time ago. So all is good.

Well, I'm just jumping on to quickly read your posts, and to report that I did the Turkey Trot yesterday. It took me 51 minutes, so not great time, but I did it on the treadmill (it's sunny but just too cold here) which is so boring. I added a few minutes of incline to make it more like outside, but it's boring even with tv. I don't know if I told you ladies that a couple years back we got rid of our elliptical and got a second treadmill, so my hubby did his 5K next to me. He got in under an hour, so I was proud of him . . especially since he doesn't work out a lot. I think I'll try to get some jogging in more often and try to improve my time.
Kelly, my dad had gout when I was living at home years ago. It's a very painful thing, but like Sarah said, treatable. I'll send hopeful and healing thoughts his way.
As far as your "number" it's only your starting point and how you'll measure progress, so that's a good thing. And, it's not a bad number. I was thinking about how to do my "run" yesterday. My DIL is a running coach and a therapist. She has combined the two into one business, so she teaches a lot of mindfulness surrounding running. She sent a video out prior to this 5K, and I really planned my run for the first time ever. I tried to visualize it, and knowing my body, I decided to warm up first on the floor, then put the TM to the speed I wanted to start at increasing every minute or so for the first mile, then the second mile I slowed down to a walk, then the third mile I went up in speed, and then the last quarter mile I went as fast as I could. I was thinking about doing the similar planning for weight loss because I know when I get hungry, the cravings I have to indulge sometimes, etc. I've never really done that . . just tried to get a deficit every day. But, that's about as realistic for me as running as fast as I can for the whole 3.1 miles.
Lois, your "Rhea boot camp" made me smile
That's a perfect description, lol. I'm glad you had a happy Thanksgiving, and that you and your family are staying safe.
Sarah, keep up that "hilly course". Your reduction is an inspiration.
We had a nice Thanksgiving. My son in Cali did an online Murder Mystery game for us. We all played a part, and did some costuming. I had a Scottish brogue, ha ha. We had dialogued parts, and we had to try to figure out who did it and vote. It was great fun. We did that while the kiddos played together on their Nintendos. We didn't have us all together in person, but it was still nice, so Sarah, you're right . . all is good. We're all healthy.0 -
It's Monday.. and crazy... so I needed to jump on and give my brain a break.
Kelly - my son suffers from gout....the pain can become debilitating and the medication really does help. Hopefully the meds will kick in soon if they haven't already.
Glad everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving.
We were busy. As I said, I had a rhea boot camp day before Thanksgiving, got up Thanksgiving morning late and got the dinner going. By the time we were ready to eat, I hit a wall and was just too exhausted to really eat and enjoy dinner. Though I did love love love having our small family together. Was not able to connect with our friends on zoom or facetime so got a little bummed, but overall a great day. I truly enjoyed my dinners over the weekend. Quite yummy if I do say so myself. Happy when sis left on Friday (we can only handle a few days together - sad but true and easier now that I acknowledge and limit the time). Missed Rhea within minutes of her leaving...haha. Son helped get the house lights up and hubby and got the tree and remaining outdoor lights up. Not going all out this year but it's pretty. We did the tree and small village to see how Rhea is around it. Omitted my porcelain nativity for fear that it may not survive Rhea... eeek. Played Catan with my son and DIL. I almost won...and then my son pulled out a wild card up his sleeve...we were head to head through most of the game.
Sheesh - our family needs to learn to do some of the games your family is playing. We facetime my daughter in Okinawa every Saturday, so it would be super fun for the three families to play a game. Hubby and I do not have the atari or nintendo switch or wii...whatever they are. Only my son and DIL.0 -
Good morning ladies! Touching base to see how everyone is doing. It sounds like you all made the most of your Thanksgiving holidays, which is good. Nice to see some different ways you all keep in touch with family.
Our puppy is here! He's soooo loveable and adorable. It's only been 3 days, but he already loves us and trusts us so much. He is pretty much "potty" trained already and has no problems going outside. He's teething, so can be a bit of a little nut when he's tired. It has unfortunately kept my activity level low. I thought I'd be able to go on the treadmill, but I haven't been able to yet as he needs to be watched all the time. It has been cold and icy outside too, so until it snows a bit more, it's hard to walk him too far. My eating habits have been much better though. I am paying attention to my carbs and trying to keep them low as I know they are a weight gainer for me.
I will try upload some pictures of Cash from my phone here, if it'll let me. I tried to check the board over the weekend on my phone, but the app was being annoying and wouldn't let me.
I hope all is well with everyone!0 -

Kelly, Cash is so cute! Love his name. Such a sweet face. He looks like he has a good personality. Congratulations on your new fur baby. And potty trained already . . smart puppy.
Carbs are a big culprit for me also, but I've tried Keto and Atkins, and I just can't do it very well. Our bodies are all different, so I say do what you know works for you. Let us know how it goes. By the way, I'm feeling much better. Sometimes I still get a dizzy attack, but it seems to correlate with allergies and stress. More sleep and decongestants have really helped. The doc wants me to see a neurologist, but since my MRI was normal and due to Covid, I'm going to put that off.
I hope Shawn's foot is better. Is there anything that he can change in his diet to help? I don't know what causes gout.
Lois, it sounds like you had a very nice Thanksgiving. I couldn't tell you how to do the murder mystery . . my son emailed it, we printed out our parts, dressed up (as best we could) in costume, and played our parts on Zoom. There was a narrator played online too. I think my son had to buy it. The app I play with my grand kiddos is called "Together". I play games, read, and color with them on my iPad. We also do silly stuff. We were all watching "Game of Thrones" and I had them all guess the last episode and who would win the throne and email it to me. The winner got to be King or Queen for a day when they were here at the cabin. My Oregon daughter won, and I had a crown, cape, staff and throne for her. She ordered people around all day, lol! "Subject . . bring me a diet coke". Recently, we did the same thing with HBO's "The Undoing". They emailed me their guesses for who did it, why, and how the final episode would go. I just finished sending the email for winner and honorable mentions. Winner gets a tub of popcorn. Unfortunately, I was the winner.
We're now looking for a new show, lol. We sometimes do that with sporting events, etc.
Sarah, I've been thinking about you a lot lately with your new position having to do with Covid. I hope it works out for you. There's going to be a lot of road ahead with the vaccine roll out.
I'll be back tomorrow (if I can get access to the Mac) for weigh-in. It will probably not be good, haha.0 -
Kelly! Oh my goodness. Cash is so so cute and I can smell his puppy breath just through the pictures. How is SHawn's gout doing? I was talking with my son and he said it takes his meds about 4 days before he's pain free - when it hits super hard. Hoping his meds are working.
Sheesh your games sound so fun and I'm going to check out your apps and great idea with the season endings of the shows. Now, to find some shows that we all watch.... Great ideas.
Sarah - a few more days and you're part time again?
We're done with leftovers here - so I made pasta with meatballs last night. Such a yummy change. Tomorrow I'm going to make Pasta Fagioli soup - it has lots of veggie power. It's finally chilly here...ok in the 70's but it's chilly for us.
