We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - 88olds (George)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - misterhub (Greg)
Thursday - linmueller (Lin)
Friday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Today's Topic: Thanksgiving! If you posted a plan in last week's LTL, you might want to review it LOL. If you haven't made a plan it's not too late. Share it with us now. And at the end of Thanksgiving day, share how you did. Did you follow your plan? Track? Go beyond what you'd expected to? Are you proud of yourself? Disappointed? Ready to move on?
Planning is key to weight loss and management, and knowledge is power.
Have a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING guys! 🥧💛🍂🦃🍁💛🥧

Today SHOULD be fairly innocuous. My usual two point muesli breakfast. For lunch, the turkey is zero points; we bought just a breast so it’s all white meat. Mashed potatoes and store-bought stuffing? Meh. (It’s store-bought from the turkey farm where we bought the turkey breast, and it’s what my wife grew up with, so the stuffing argument is not a hill to die on this year.) Making a low calorie pumpkin pie (four points for one eighth of the pie, so there’s that. If I go over, it may be on the pie.
So going in, I’m cautious but not apprehensive. In fact, not to be cynical, but this might be the one situation where COVID is something to be thankful for. Otherwise, we’d be doing a bigger event with more people, food, snacks and such. Both the guest list and the meal are stripped down to nothing this year!0 -
I planned to stay OP and I did. Kept pre dinner food lean, ate proper portions, and enjoyed every bite of a delicious smoked turkey.
I had been debating on dessert and went with the SF jello with whipped cream for the littles, they were so excited, and I had one too. Took TJ dark pb cups, sea salt choc covered caramels and praline pecans. I just had a few pecans. It was easy to be distracted from the food with the littles running around LOL.
The only thing I didn't allow for was the wine. Even with 2 glasses, I still managed to stay in my DPs.
In the end, I'm really pleased with my effort, my stomach isn't bloated, and I got some time with my family. Feeling blessed. I hope you all had a wonderful day, whatever it looked like

I totally agree with the Covid comment Charlie, @crewahl ! Without out it I would have had my MILs amazing stuffing, unbeaten gravy and ridiculous assortment of desserts, including her apple pie with the flakiest, made with lard, crust ever! The blessing in the curse 💛0

I feel very good about the week and about Thanksgiving Day. I stuck to my plan of eating lightly leading up to Thanksgiving, and I had reasonable portions yesterday. I hadn't planned on drinking, but I did. I also got more steps in, averaging over 7000/day. I did not make my favorite pie.
I need to go back and track yesterday. I'm confident I ate at a calorie deficit for the week though the scale may not yet reflect it. I'm super swollen from all the standing/cooking.0 -

Yup, me too! Guess maybe we should have talked about that little detail LOL 🤣. But like you, I'm happy with my day!
And your fav pie will definitely get made here, but not until we can gather in larger numbers! I can tell by the recipe that I'd be wanting to eat the whole thing!0 -
@linmueller This was my first time making a turkey and the entire meal. It went well, but it was definitely stressful. A couple of drinks sure helped!
And now that I'm not stressed about Thanksgiving, I'm going to look for ways to make smaller versions of the pie. It's doable, but I need to research adjusting cooking times, etc.0 -
I don’t really know the numbers for the pumpkin cream cheese thing DW made. And I’m not going to ask. Everything else was according to plan.0

It's a stressful meal to make for sure @whathapnd . Lots of work and timing is so hard!
A smaller version of that pie sounds like a good idea.. I know it'd be calling my name until it was gone!0 -
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I did pretty well for the actual meal and the actual day. Leftovers are all gone, now; but, I think they may have done some damage. I haven't been brave enough to step on the scale, yet. LOL.0

I just let go on Thanksgiving Day. We were away in North Ga Mtns at a State Lodge. All there was at the restaurant was buffet for dinner Wednesday evening same for breakfast and we went there solely for the lunch on Thanksgiving Day so yep buffet lunch. Suffice to say I was not OP for any of those meals.0
