Weigh-in Week Dec 14 - 20

The dates on the thread was confusing me, so I started a new one. Not sure which day of the week you all want to weigh . . . Mine is on Wednesdays.
Lois, what a scary event for your neighbor and you. Praying your hubby is negative, and that your neighbor recovers quickly. Is your MIL getting confused about her pills? I hope they’re not toxic or addictive. It’s so hard with elders. . .My mother abused pain pills after my father passed and she was in her own home. We never knew if it was forgetfulness or addiction. It was one of many reasons we decided to place her in assisted living so that the nursing staff oversaw and had her meds locked.
BTW, great job with the walks!
Kelly, I see nine degrees Fahrenheit for you right now! Wow. Makes my 28 degrees sound balmy, lol. The short workouts are a great idea for a busy lady like you. Also, did you go to the Apple Watch? They added some interesting fitness features yesterday. It requires a software update for the watch (and iPhone), but it measures cardio fitness level. Kind of cool. Also, Apple TV added some fitness classes if you have it. We cold weather people have to find ways to move while indoors, right?
Sarah, I’m looking forward to an update on how you like your new position. I’ve been thinking about you a lot with the vaccinations starting here yesterday. Hope you like it, and that you’re still taking a little time for you, even though I know how difficult that is when getting into a new schedule.
I shipped my final Christmas gift yesterday, so I was able to get in weight training and some cardio. It takes me a while to warm up completely, so that takes extra time, but I don’t dare work out without warming up my whole body. Today, it’s the old dreadmill because it’s too cold for me outside, lol!
Stay safe ladies. . Especially you, Lois. Let us know when your hubby’s test comes back. Can’t wait to get that vaccine!

I moved my weigh day to Wednesday also to be the same as you and Sarah. I guess we could change the weekly dates to start in Wednesday since that is our weekly start/end for numbers.
Today’s been a bit crazy but hubbys test was negative. We’re not surprised. Neighbor being kept another day. Pneumonia. Not covid. They did 3 tests and an antibody He doesn’t have it nor did he have it. His wife still went and got tested even though it’s highly doubtful she has it. Again they go nowhere like me.
I did get my morning walk again today. Went a full mile - woot woot. Then...UPS made a delivery - my daughters gift arrived so I stopped work. Hubby wrapped the gift as I got the shipping box and customs label ready. Made a quick stop at the store for some Christmas candy canes with chocolate Put them in the box. Sealed it up and zipped to the post office. Doubtful it will make it for Christmas but we can hope for some Christmas magic. So all of the main gifts have arrived and I can breathe.
I did not get my evening walk in as I forgot I had my 3 hour tour hair appointment. That took priority and I love it. Hubby does too because I bring home delicious Chinese food for him (and MIL) so not sure what the sodium is going to do to tomorrow’s numbers - another reason I usually get hair gone on Thursdays. WOOT WOOT!! I've been doing my walking - not always hitting the 10k steps, but walking "with purpose" and burning some calories and creating some heat. AND kind of watching what I eat. I've been close to this number for a few days, but was super concerned it wasn't going to stay - BUT IT DID!!!!
Ok...so I washed those greys right outta my hair, oh yes I washed those greys right outta my hair (come gals sing it with me). Not really, but Julie did a great job reassigning a new color to those greys! and trimming it outta my eyes. And this morning, well it's trash day and of course the trucks are around here early until mid morning. It's really stinky to walk on Wednesday mornings. I have a sales meeting at 10 and then I may pop out for a quick 10-15 mins and planning on walking again this evening. So that's my weigh in. Looking forward to checking up on you gals.
Sarah - did you start the new position this week? Can't wait to hear about it!
All of you gals stay warm...it looks like Sarah may be getting snow. Kelly - BBBRRRRRR. Sheesh - that's skiing weather!0 -

Another week that I won the weigh-in lottery because my weight is not that low every day. LOL
I am so sorry to have been missing in action. I have been logging on to put in my food and I've been reading posts. I am so glad to see everyone posting more often. It helps me to feel connected and when I do, I seem to do better with intake and activity. I also very glad the four of us are back here.
The past week has been one of high anxiety and stress.Last Friday was one of the worst days in recent memory. For the short term, I am not getting a CDC computer, but am using my new laptop. Everything was going fine up until last Friday morning, when suddenly email messages were not being synchronized from my Comcast account to Outlook on my laptop. Because I needed to check often for information about my onboarding to the CDC systems, I was having to log into Comcast constantly, and so I asked hubby for help. He couldn't get it fixed so Friday night, he decided to use a support service that helped him a year ago when he had some serious issues with one of this laptops. Long story short, he called them Friday night and renewed his subscription and upgraded to a multi-device policy (which was very expensive). The tech did get Outlook synchronized again, but it took a long, long time. And in the meantime, this tech also took it upon himself to "clean up" my computer, which is new and didn't need it. Among other things, he deleted some of my apps, including fitbit and MFP, as well as my AVG secure browser!
When I saw this, I freaked and hubby called back and he denied removing them. It ended up with hubby having a shouting match with the tech, and then, because it was well after midnight by this time and he was dead tired, he also started getting upset with me. And of course, I was tired and upset with everyone and everything! The end of this story is that I now have Fitbit and MFP back, but I have yet to find the time to contact AVG.
And regarding the new job, this onboarding process has been gruesome. Monday evening I went to be fingerprinted. Yesterday, I drove an hour each way to a CDC facility for my badge/SmartCard (which I have to have to log into their email or intranet), and I have taken myriad trainings and completed the most comprehensive security form I've ever seen (took hours). Now, hopefully, the only thing left is to drive back to the CDC facility to pick up my SmartCard when it comes back from Atlanta. Arghhhhh So long story short, I am not really working yet--just working at getting to work!
Two times this week, I started posting to bring you gals up to speed, but then either the phone rang or an email came in and I had to bail. I hope to do better this week. Last week I stated that my goal would be to do some stretching or light weights every day, and I was not very good at that goal. I did it Wednesday, Thursday, and then not again until last night. So I will retain that goal.
And you are right about the snow, Lois. We are far enough northwest of DC to be a little colder and to usually get snow when they only get rain. Today, it's pouring snow here. The prediction keeps changing, but it looks like we will get several inches of snow followed by a wintry mix of rain and sleet. If you're looking at weather for me, Gaithersburg is the exact location.
Lois, I am so sorry to hear about the scare with your neighbor and so happy to hear that it's not COVID. A friend of ours has also been in the hospital due to breathing problems. His turned out to be bacterial pneumonia. He is home now and beginning to recover. I'm also happy to hear that your hubby was negative.
Tomorrow, I have to go for my annual physical. I hope the roads are okay. Sheesh and Kelly, you would laugh considering how much snow you get. But even a few inches bog us down. And every winter around here, we have a lot of people trying to drive who have never seen snow before (which can be frightening and entertaining!), and the roads are so congested, it's hard for the plows to do their job.
You will not believe this, but I have yet to buy the first Christmas present. My sister, BIL, and adopted brother all said to just sent them gift cards. We plan to do that and also send a box of Christmas cookies, dried fruits, nuts, etc. for the "drop in" that I cannot convince my sister not to have. Hubby and I both agree that we'll get new cell phones soon, so will just get a token gift of some kind to put under the tree. I gave up on buying for all my nieces and nephews now that all but one nephew are married and have children. If I bought for everyone, it would be 26 gifts I believe. So instead, we usually provide and prepare the food for their get together and that one unmarried nephew always wants my hubby to cook another special meal for only us, him, and my sister and BIL while we are in town. But all that that will have to be postponed until springtime probably.
Well, time to sign off. Glad to hear that everyone is doing okay and getting in some activity. Here's to a good week for us all.

Good news - neighbor came home yesterday. He's tired and on antibiotics but it's nice to have him back home. FOUR tests for covid and all negative. The Dr. kept telling him it was COVID, but all of the tests came back negative, and the pneumonia is only in one lung. The Dr. kind of freaked him and his wife out with the COVID talk. Why did he have to do that??
Not EVERYTHING is COVID or even COVID related. He's been sick in the past, has health conditions with heart lung and knees. Both have tested NEGATIVE. Again, they go nowhere like me. I asked a friend of mine who gets pneumonia every year and she confirmed it will just appear one day - does not always have a cough the day before. Anyway, he's home and recovering. His wife has taken the rest of the week off to care for him.
It was a brrrr 38 degrees this morning in sunny (ok kinda cloudy) AZ, BUT I still got my walk in!! Under a mile and tomorrow I think I'll bring gloves and a scarf!! Going to go again this evening...the Christmas lights are just too beautiful to pass up enjoying each evening. Great idea on sharing our locations on the weather app. I get to see what you ladies are up against and it keeps me from staying inside. I just have to put on a warmer jacked (I did buy that nice Columbia jacket in three sizes largerSo there's room for a warm long sleeve top if needed.
Kelly, I was scanning some of last week's posts and somehow missed your post. I'm so happy you and Jodi get along so well and the kids can enjoy the holiday with ALL of you! That's not how it was when I was growing up and I'm glad the kids won't have to feel that "torn" feeling. And with all of you getting together, will make it feel more like a holiday and not just another day.
Sarah - it's all going to come together....breathe. and Good job at getting back to your other workouts. I will be doing that after the holidays (I've already begun the room clearing process and it's starting to feel like I can get in there if our weather turns ugly and I can't make it outside (rain of course). We stopped buying for all of the nieces and nephews years ago. We would send the parents some funds to buy a family game when they were younger. Hubby and I have the older of the kiddos so we knew how expensive it would be for them. So that's what we had them do for our kids as well.0 -

Oops. Well, doesn't look like it will be 130 any time soon. Well, at least I've had a workout every day so far this week. Sorry to be late posting. Wednesdays are turning into busier days for me . . lots of FaceTime and app playtime, and checking in on my sister. Had a long talk with her, and she's just not doing very well. She was up all night again on Tuesday night . . pain and vomiting blood. She's seen five doctors about this, but they can only see a hiatal hernia, and aren't sure where the blood is coming from. Her hubby is dealing with a lingering and serious case of shingles, some in his eyes. The docs are very concerned about his eyes. I feel so helpless. I've been texting and talking to her oldest daughter, and there's just really nothing I can do to help. My sister had six children, and they all live closer to her than I do. (she's about 30 minutes south of me) They are doing all they can to help . . .maybe even too much. The only thing that could improve their situation now is healing. Please keep them in your positive thoughts or prayers.
Sarah, hang on. Starting up a new job is stressful, but for the government I'm sure it's triple stressful. And, I'm sure the recent hacking into systems is a concern, and the security has to be prioritized. Add tech issues . . Lordy. Lois is right . . just breathe and try not to internalize it or "take it personally" . . it's just the nature of it, and you are only human. I'm one to talk though, lol. I got to the point where I couldn't take it, and decided to retire. I'm a wimp though. You're a superwomanI hope the Noreaster storm won't cause you too many difficulties. Great job maintaining, and getting some activity.
Lois, wow!! That's a great reduction! And, great job with increasing the distance and intensity. Happy all is well with your neighbor, and you've got your Christmas shipping all done. We haven't purchased gifts for our many nieces and nephews for years. Our kids started drawing names for gifts for each other. The grandkids all still give to each other, but I'm sure that won't continue into the future.
Keep up the movement, and we'll get through this holiday season ready to hit the ground running in the New Year! I can't wait for 2020 to be OVER.
Off to the treadmill now. I need to increase the intensity. I've been a bit lazy and low level with cardio but, so far, activity every day this week . . .

I am back two days in a row! I had to redo a section of one security form today (they are unbelievably details and complex), but other than that, I'm not doing much job-wise. I had a "meeting" yesterday with the task force member who will be my main contact. She is so nice! It's kind of odd though. She has a facial nerve issue that makes it very painful for her to talk. So we did skype and I talked and she typed in the chat section. It's different, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. And like I said, she is super nice. When she told me about her problem, I told her that I have that undiagnosed facial issue that sometimes crops up and when it does, I will not do video if I can avoid it. She was so grateful to have someone who understands having face problems. I think we'll do fine.
Sheesh, I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Mine is not doing well either. She still cannot stand up due to something going on in her hip and cannot walk even a step. Add that to chronic pain and I just don't know how she does it. I'm praying both of our sisters will find answers to their health problems in this new year. And I agree--2020 don't let the door hit you in the "kitten" as you leave!
Kelly, it really is great that Shawn and Jodi get along and that she welcomes you in the kids lives. We have a friend who has a similar situation with his ex and it has made the world of difference. They also share custody, and the kids live with him one week and her the next, but they celebrate most holidays and birthdays together, and now they're including Chris's new girlfriend, who is likely the next Mrs. Chris!
We ended up getting only about 3 inches of snow yesterday before it turned to freezing rain. But luckily, no trees came down and the power stayed on. This morning I drove to a doctor's appointment and the streets were basically okay once I got out of the neighborhood. Other drivers? Different story. There are always the people who drive 15 miles an hour because they're terrified to drive in snow. And they tick off those who think their SUV cannot possibly slide (yeah, right!) and they weave in and out of traffic going 65 in a 35. I made it fine, but my doc said there were accidents everywhere on I-270.
Lois, great job with walking two times a day. I think several shorter walks may actually be better than one longer one. I had to do one long treadmill walk last night because I had to sit at my desk most of the day, and by the time I did that my knees were aching. I think it was all the sitting I'm not used to. I don't often take medications, but I took a couple of Aleve before I headed down to the basement.
Like I said yesterday, my weight is bouncing around. It was about a pound higher today than yesterday. I discovered to my dismay that a cup of tomato basil bisque soup and a grilled cheese sandwich can add up to close to 800 calories! So I was over my 1200 and even with the walking had a 28 kcal overage at the end of the day.
Well, I should get some things on my to-do list checked off. Lois, good news about your neighbor. I'm sure the healthcare providers are seeing so much COVID they are afraid to rule it out without making sure the first tests are not false negatives. But I hate that it scares people so. Our friend who had pneumonia is still doing better. I think he plans to attend a zoom meeting we're attending tonight. He is the sweetest man who does so much for other people, even though he doesn't have a lot himself. We call him Pop Pop Dave. I swear, if that man had only a peanut butter cracker for dinner and you were hungry, he'd give you three-quarters of it. So I hope he gets fully well and makes it through the winter.0 -
Good morning ladies. I got my evening run in yesterday. This morning my back is killing me. My hip slipped out a couple of days ago and I keep trying to get it back in. My chiro is in Scottsdale and I don't want to drive across town for an adjustment. I think I'm going to have to suck it up and go to the other cracker over here. Prefer my guy but don't want to drive 45 minutes to get there.
Sarah - breathe! breathe! breathe! I find myself holding my breath when I read the chaos you're going through. Hopefully once you get in to the position the work portion will be much smoother. Stay inside and stay safe.
Sheesh - oh my goodness. I will keep ALL sisters in my prayers.

Made the hour each way drive again today to get my badge. We woke to a little more snow, but the roads were okay. However, I Iogged in to more requests for forms that I either forgot to submit or that had something I had to correct. It is never going to end! And I just discovered that the newer laptops have fewer USB ports, and so I don't have one for my fitbit dongle.
My older laptop had several more than this new one. I guess now it's assumed that everything is wireless.
You're right Lois. I need to breathe! My stomach has been one big knot for several weeks. Hopefully, once all the preliminary stuff is done and I can get online, things will get better. Hubby says a paycheck will help sooth my belly! LOL I was so tired last night, it took all I had to get to the treadmill, but I finally got my 10K steps in. I promise to add some stretching and weights several days this week, too.
Great job will the evening run, Lois, but please get that hip checked. I know you're tempted to push through pain, and I know it's frustrating to get appointment now with the holidays and all the in-person restrictions, but I know you'd beat me over the head if I had pain and didn't attend to it!
Hope you all have a great Friday. Stay safe.0 -
Sarah - the pain was too intense. I went to the chiro by my house. He's not as gentle as my other dr. but it got the job done. I do feel better. The muscles around the joint are still tight from protecting it, but they will soothe soon as well. And your hubby is correct. A paycheck will soothe your belly! I will get in a walk after work. I haven't used the dongle in ages. Can you connect your fitbit to the phone app via bluetooth? ANd you're right not as many ports, no CD reader it's all gone super wireless, wifi, bluetooth...cables are soon to be a thing of the past.
Since I start my vacation at 5:01 tonight, everyone needs something. haha.0 -
Hey Lois. Glad you had the hip checked out. Now try to find some resting time during your "vacation." I really just needed to step away from this desk tonight. The stress was wearing me down big time. Did you ask the chiro if you can still walk with the hip bothering you? I had a backache the other night and questioned walking but it ended up helping--most likely because it got my blood flowing and released some of the tension in my back. I think I can switch my fitbit to my phone, but I still have the older laptop in the office and I stuck the dongle in it and my steps seem to be uploading.
Well, we plan to be in Frederick, Maryland at 8:30, which means I have to be up by 6:30, so I'd better head to bed. It's almost midnight!0 -
Hip slipped out again but thank goodness the chiropractor is open on Saturday. He got me back in line. My surrogate daughter came up today. We baked Christmas sugar cookies and frosted them. We also had the sick neighbors over (hospital neighbor _ noncovid). I made pasta fagioli for dinner and we watched the TSO concert from Friday night. We love to go watch the show live but we hadn’t been able to go the past couple of
Years. It was great. Still better live. Our neighbors enjoyed it they had never seen the show before. We had a nice evening and now I’m resting on a heating pad. Yes I can walk if it doesn’t hurt. Bending hurts. This morning I was in agony and could not get back into bed without hubbys help. Tears and all. So much better now.
Christmas plans are now up in the air. My daughter in laws mom is not feeling well. They think an ear infection but she’s going to get tested for covid for everyones safety. She is supposed to host Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner. So we are all waiting for her test results. If she’s positive then we will host here at my house. She did ask me to make my beef stew, which is our normal Christmas Eve fare when we do luminaries, so I’ll work on that Wednesday to take up. Again as long as she’s negative. My kids are also getting tested as I’m supposed to be over at their house Monday night and spending Tuesday with Rhea while they pack and get ready to head up to her moms Wednesday. Now everything is pending on test results. Damn covid.
Sarah I hope you had a good trip0 -

I'm just stopping in this morning to say I did weigh in on Thursday and that was it. Not surprising due to the lack of exercise. This puppy and work are taking everything out of me. I'm super exhausted by the end of the day and just have no boost in me to get going. Shawn is in the same boat as me and I keep saying that it's a never ending cycle that we're so tired because of the lack of activity, but we haven't done anything about it. I think I just need to be the one to do it. I definitely have a ton of excuses, I just have to find a way to get around them. One being that the basement renos have taken over my treadmill (need to get that figured out again) and our puppy follows me everywhere. I really do think I just need to start getting up in the morning and going on the treadmill, so that's what I'll do before Shawn goes to work I guess. He'll have to mind the dog.
Our old dog is at a visit with the kids at Jodi's this week until tomorrow, so that has been a good break for him. Cash jumps all over him and I'm sure it's pretty exhausting for a dog that's 101 in dog years lol Poor Diesel.
I still have to come back and read all your posts. I work today and tomorrow and then I'm off for the rest of the week.
Thinking of you all.0 -
Kelly, I know just what it's like to get in that cycle where lack of activity (and probably lack of daylight now) makes you too tired to get the activity you need to get out of the cycle. I realized a short time ago that it's the shortest day of the year, so starting tomorrow, we're headed back in the other direction.
Lois, by trip, I guess you mean the second trip to Hyattsville to get my badge. That one went much smoother. I was able to backtrack perfectly so I could take the toll road, which has far less traffic and no traffic lights. I'm still having issues with getting onboard, though. I had to submit a bunch of paperwork again today and I'm still working with the IT people to get old inboxes removed and new ones added. But at least my new client is being extremely nice about it. I honestly feel badly because my primary contact is so nice! Hope I'm up in running by tomorrow afternoon so I can pinch hit over the holiday.
Sheesh, I got back the results of my blood tests and they want to put me on a statin, too. But my LDL is actually lower than last time, and since I got a zero score when they did that calcium scoring last year, I told them no--not yet. I really do have to get the fat in my diet down now, or they'll nag me!0 -
Hello ladies. Glad to read all of your posts.
Lois, having Christmas up in the air is what everyone I know is dealing with this year, including us. We finally set a time for a family Zoom on Christmas Day, but plans with our daughter here and her fiancé are still formulating. It’s complicated by his family, his daughter (and ex), the distance between all of them and us, and Covid. It’s very hard to make plans. It looks like we’ll be doing a Christmas Eve dinner here, then all Zooming in on Christmas Day, even daughter here. Which is fine . . I’m not one of those high pressure moms. Nobody is traveling due to Covid, and that’s just fine with me . . My family staying safe and healthy is at the top of my Christmas list!
I really hope your hip heals quickly. I’m sorry about the pain you’re having. I say you rest your hip and your body until after Christmas, and then go from there. You don’t want to be out of commission on Christmas. Take it easy, and try not to stress too much either.
Sarah, your stress levels have got to be off the charts with your new position, Christmas, your sister, etc. I know my stress is high and I’m not starting a new job, and with all the boxes you have to check to even get started. I’ve been keeping your sister in my prayers right next to my sister. There’s been really very little improvement with her and her hubby. In addition to that, my brother called today to tell me he’s having knee replacement in six weeks. He’s already had his hip replaced. He is almost six years younger than me (the baby of the family) and he’s struggling with this stuff already. He isn’t overweight and works out and really tries to take care of his health. Sometimes one just can’t win.
Kelly, I’m convinced not to get a puppy after reading your posts, lol! I remember well the energy and time it takes to train and watch a puppy. We had two really great dogs, but they are work for sure. Your young, and with young kids it’s really fun to have dogs. But, when we retired and our lab had to be put down, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t get another dog. It sure would be fun though, especially with the isolation that has come with avoiding Covid . . . Hubby and I have been tempted!
Be back tomorrow to weigh in. Stay safe.
