So - I went for my 6-month diabetes checkup, and I had the blood draw. I will report back with numbers.

A1C was 6.1, so it is up a little.

Too high. You're on your way to T2D. You already have a fatty liver and insulin resitantance.

Your disease is metabolic. You don't need or want meds. You need to use a high fat low carb ANIMAL product based diet.

I was diagnosed in 2016 and have been eating keto since then. Typically I am under 10 net carbs a day and have been very consistent with that. It could be that I am still suffering from fatty liver, but I will say that ALT levels went from OMG levels to the low end of the normal range after 18 months or so on a keto diet. I got off meds completely after about that same 18 months.

What is the benefit in knowing my fasting insulin level? Does it change anything I do if it is low/high?

Well - the T2D ship has sailed. I went from a 100(ish) number no one said anything about to a fasting glucose number of 350 or so just from one regular doctor's appointment to the next. There were no pre-diabetic finger wagging numbers in between. I got my first A1C that I *think* was 12.8. It has been a while. I was diagnosed T2D in 2016.

I fumbled around with things, and finally came to understand that managing carbs was going to be what was going to work for me. I have been doing that ever since. Basically I would suggest it is the level of stress and issues at work that cause the variability these days.
