Hi, i am new to MFP, my doctor suggested it for me to help track my food, and give me some ways to see my progress. I have set some small goals, 20 pounds right now so I am not overwhelmed by the big picture. Any ideas you have that are helpful... i would love to hear them.
I am happy to join this group. I wish you all a happy and healthy new year.

Welcome! Happy New Year.
Tracking is really helpful, it can help you see easily how to cut cals and improve your diet, and also allow you to track what works and what makes things more difficult. I also find journaling to be helpful for that purpose, as well as things like focusing on daily and weekly goals (it's possible to post those here).0 -
Welcome!
I am also new to MFP, but I have found tracking on this app to be easy, as well as interesting. I print out my reports daily so that I can study the data and use it to make adjustments in my eating. This may be helpful for you, too.
I wish you a healthy, happy new year!

I've found that logging my food on here is probably the most helpful thing for me. But don't guesstimate portion amounts. Buy a food scale (they're not expensive) and use it. Log everything that goes in your mouth. It may seem time consuming at first but it quickly becomes second nature. I tend to plan and log my day as I'm drinking my morning coffee. I can make minor adjustments later in the day, but generally I stick to what I've planned.
Remember, you're in this for the long haul. Its not a quick fix. You learn. And grow. And continue to make changes. And you become a healthier version of yourself. Pretty cool, isn't it? 🙂1 -
Welcome!
Success isn't just the scale..in fact it can be fickle and doesn't always reflect your actions.
In addition to the above suggestions, have a snug piece of clothing to measure success. My weight can fluctuate several pounds in a week, but a blouse and jeans don't lie.
Be in it for the long haul.
Build on healthy habits and don't try to overhaul everything at once. Small changes over time done consistently will lead to greater success in my opinion.2
