The Dreaded "I'm Back" Post

I was a regular participant in GOAD until WW pulled the rug out from under us. I was able to maintain more or less where I was for a bit, then a number of things resulted in my gaining back a significant portion of what I lost. My final wake-up call was when I couldn't get my ski pants buttoned.

Skiing was one thing I really enjoyed that my prior weight loss had enabled, and here I was, ready to throw that in the trash for some beer, pretzels and pizza.

I retired from a stressful job the first of the the year. My retirement plan focuses on three objectives:
Finance
Fitness
Fun

By way of fitness, some of my objectives are/were:
Weigh in on MLK day and most days after
Track 6/7 days minimum
Get some mindful exercise 6/7 days
FIND A GROUP

Not sure if Steve (Steve-o-mania?) is still around, but here is the preemptive strike:
What will I do different?: Maybe focus a little less on burning the calories of running and more on nutrition. Fitness work more focused on strength than cardio.

Honestly-Things were going ok at WW until all the changes. I think this program is closest to what I was successful at with WW, so I'm giving it a whirl.

Not sure what my old name was. Maybe newmantjn or maybe "Just Plain Todd".

Hopefully, we can pick up where we left off.

Welcome back. Almost all of us have to revise and restart at one point or another. I hope you'll be an active member of the community as you return. :-)

Welcome back. Yes, most of us have had to re-group from time to time, especially with Covid restrictions, whether government, community, or self.
Steve-0-Mainia is still around, as is "Count Curt", Cindy, and many others. Hop in the pool, everything is "normal". LOL

Welcome home. You should feel right at home here. I wish not to discuss how many times I've restarted but for starters how about every morning? It's a good group and we'll be looking forward to your sharing your journey.

Welcome back, Todd. I dropped off the radar myself late in 2016, so I made it over to this board post-Connect. I did my own “I’m back” grovel a few months ago. This is still a good group, if a bit smaller than what we had on the message board.

Welcome back Todd! I was on the GoaD board too (ViviansDD) and got close to goal in 15, then gained due to a health issue and meds. I struggled to get back in the game for 5 years and yoyoed, mostly due to not wanting to give up food and alcohol w/I restrictions. Came back in June '20, 55-60#s up. This has been the longest I've recommitted since my '13-15 drop of 90#s, so I'm hopeful, and down #30 in that time! I wish I'd come back sooner, but I'm grateful I didn't let more time and #s go by!

All that to say, most of us have come back with more to lose then we left with. This board is still a great support, encouragement and wisdom. Hope it works for you! Good luck! You've got this 💪💪💪

Hello, Todd. I joined WW online in 2013 and posted some on GoaD. I joined here after the other group closed. I don't post often.

    Well come back, Todd!

I was on the old GOAD board. I gained the weight back despite never officially leaving GOAD.

Some on this board are doing WW, some calorie counting on MFP and some are doing their own thing. But we all know it comes down to CICO.

    Good luck!

Welcome back Todd! Yup, I'm still here, and thank you for answering the key question! Ha ha ha!

I find my thoughts shifting these days. I used to wonder "what will that person do differently?" Now I'm thinking that the critical question is "why is this time different?" In other words, I think we all know *what* to do, but there's always some underlying motivation issue that either prevents or allows us to do what we need to. I think that's even more elusive. Heck, when we're motivated, we can eat weird diets, learn to run great distances, hit the gym for hours on end. However, as soon as the motivation falters, all of those things go by the wayside.

Ultimately, developing sustainable habits that don't require any thought (or minimal thought) goes a long way. I've managed to stay below my WW goal for 11+ years because of habits, and NOT because I'm super-motivated. These days, I've got to tune up my habits a bit because I am running a little higher weight than I want to be at, but if I can take off 5-8 pounds, I think I'll be just where I'd like to be.

Thanks to everyone for the nice welcome back.

Steve - you gave me something to noodle on. I need to figure that out.
