We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - Al_Howard (Al)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - imastar2. (Derrick)

TODAY’S TOPIC: Drastic course changes when your off course and gained excessive weight.
When your off course do you make a minor correction or do you feel a drastic change is necessary to get you back on course.

For me and my experience has been that I just have to make a drastic change in my habits and what or how much I eat etc. I'm currently up close to 15 lbs in the last few months and even at my weight level I can feel it.

Doing a course change a ship might have been off course a very minor degree or less but if not caught hafter sever hundred miles they find themselves miles and miles of course. This is how I feel at this current point where I am. Its not exactly the 15 lbs but really it is however a small change doesn't usually get it for me. I have to make drastic changes to convert my attitude and habits to get back on course.

So what does a drastic change mean for me? Severe curtailment of sweets if I strayed in that area. Also portion size, carbs and salt. I guess the bottom line would basically a heart healthy diet.😁

Interesting you ask this this week. The WW meeting was about "re-booting". Like you just walked in on the first day. Read your material, follow the proscribed plan meticulously for the first week. See what happens from there.
If it works, "rinse and repeat".

I'm making a drastic course change. Just trying to get back on the program. Tracking, weighing and moving. The weight will drop if I follow the process.

I’m not sure it’s drastic. While I did get 90 pounds over goal, the reality is I did it with a lot of small but stupid decisions. I guess cutting out “stupid” may be drastic for me. Still, it wasn’t about restricting myself or doing anything other than following the program.

Stupid is not a good strategy for weight loss.

My drastic change was joining WW. I ended up doing a lot of stuff I never thought I’d do. Never ever.

I’m still doing a lot of them.

I'm in the drastic camp, always LOL

This time I didn't just change my eating, I also added some gentle exercises that I've slowly increased, and also a little spiritual discipline too. In answer to Steve's question on another post, what's going to be different this time is I'm going for a more well rounded approach!

I'm usually more successful with small changes, but I sometimes use short-term, drastic changes. They're not so much about quick weight loss as they are to get my attention focused.

Probably somewhere in between. Teensy changes not so much but not using drastic all or nothing measures either.
