We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - newmantjn (Todd)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - imastar2. (Derrick)
Today's Topic: Weight Watcher proofed home. We've all heard of child proofing a home. Do you prescribe to WW proofing your home? Or are you better just saying no?

I am a strong believer in WW-proofing your home (to the extent possible, without being a crazy person). It's so much easier to avoid something when it's not in your home, or not out on the counter, etc. It's so much easier to have an apple when there are apples in your home! Etc.
I can't tell you how many times I've had a glass of wine "just because" there's leftover wine from a meal sitting on the counter!0 -
I have a finite supply of “no”. I can’t afford to spend it willy-nilly on things that I know are detrimental to my long term goals. Anything that goes in my grocery carriage is something I’m commiting to eat.
There’s just two of us, and we’re both doing WW. There’s no need to bring in snacks “just in case someone drops by”. If we’re planning company, we’ll buy for that and may just toss the leftovers.
Right now the snacky things in my house are:
Chex mix (I can portion it)
Healthy Choice fudgsicles (my vice)
Del Monte no sugar added fruit cups
Beer
Celery and Laughing Cow
Apples for mid-afternoon
Multigrain Club Crackers
Almonds
Jello sugar free chocolate pudding cups
We tend to make WW-friendly meals in volume using a slow cooker. We do take-out from a limited circle where we can afford the options we like.
I no longer have peanut butter in the house. I had started the “just a spoonful” behavior, and it slowed down my losses. Better for now not to have it around.0 -
Yeah peanut butter is like crack for me, and 1 tablespoon is never enough particularly since I get get 3 - 5 times that amount on a single spoon! Is there such a think as peanut butter lovers anonomyous?1

I guess by consciously not having a lot of snacks in the house, I do WW proof my home. And when I buy ice cream (non-dairy for me ), I buy one pint at a time. Once it's gone, it's gone. There's no running to the store for more . . . especially because of COVID.
I'm actually working on trying to have treats in the house but limit myself to rational portions. I think this is an importantnt skill for succesdful, long-term weight management. At least for me.
+1 to all the peanut butter comments. I could literally eat an entire jar in 24 hours. (I say "literally" because I've done it.) I'm overly proud that last week I made the Jif single serve portions (8 containers) last for two weeks. Feel free to clap for me if you want.2 -

A guy in my WW meeting says the same thing! He finally had his wife hide the pb. He literally does not know where it is. And I should mention that the first week after she hid it, he lost 4#! 😂0 -
Btw, yes, I do WW proof my house, to some extent. For example, I don't buy chips very often because I have yet to master portioning them 😔0
