How do you know if you should do a reset?

I do not come from a history of VLCD. I tend to over eat rather under eat. Last year this time I was at my lowest weight in my adult years. How I got there I have no clue. But slowly in the last year I gained most of the weight back. Only 2 pounds shy of my starting weight on MFP. Even though I'm still in the same clothing size I'm unhappy with body compostion.

I have contemplated doing a reset but I'm not sure how to do it properly. I downloaded the starter kit from EM2WL and have read it. I wear a FitBit and it gives me weekly burn of approximately 2000-2100 which is about my body weight x 12. I exercise 4-6x a week with a mix of cardio and weights.

My stats are 42. Starting weigt 177 current weight 175.6. 5'1

I would also like friends who are on this journey and learning. As well as friends that have been successful with this journey for inspiration.

I love the concept of EM2WL but I'm just curious if maybe I'm eating more then I should already.

Thank You.

Since you have your FitBit and know what your average burns are, you already know your starting point. In trying to decide if you should do a reset or not, that depends on if you have been under-eating. If you have been eating consistently at or over your TDEE, then there is probably no reason to do a reset --- you could just go right to a 10 or 15% cut. Whereas, if you eating has been really inconsistent, you might benefit from eating consistently at TDEE for a while before going to cut. You said you have not been under eating, so my guess is probably option #1...

    ^^^what Anitra said^^^

If your eating was not consistent and you have been on the low side with your cals, I would recommend doing a reset
