Criminy! Up almost a pound. And it's not water weight, as much as I'd like to think so. It's the result of hubby's continuing to try new dishes that are high in calories and fat. I could always say, "no thanks," but he is usually proud of the results and eager to have me enjoy them, and frankly, I've been so tired many nights, I just didn't have the ooomph to make myself anything else. I really wish he'd move on from Giada and Alex Guaranschelli and get back to Ellie Krieger! LOL I have to confess that I also bought some chocolate covered peanuts last weekend and we've had some dried cherries in the house again.

Sheesh, you are so right that staying under the number calories if you include the extra ones for exercise just doesn't cut it. I still had a deficit every day with those included, and yet I gained a pound. I can only lose or stay steady if I'm within that 1200 kcals that is my baseline. And that is hard and requires some forethought.

But mentioning activity, I do have one thing positive to say. Last Friday was my five month anniversary of walking at least 10K per day. Not sure about making it six since my left knee is beginning to really talk to me. But I'll do what I can. Since more stores are closing in March, it's time for me to look at other calorie-burning activities in addition to walking. Part of me wants a rowing machine, but another part of me does not want another piece of equipment in the house.

I had forgotten that you have family in Texas, Lois. I am glad that everyone is okay and I hope that the damages from the snow and ice are soon taken care of and that their insurance company will pay up. Four feet of snow is incredible. The most we have had is 5 feet on the ground at once during what is known here as "snowmageddon." I hope I never see that again. That was February 2010--the same month I bought my first bodybugg.

And what it is lately about migraines? My new client (the one who cannot speak) had to take off a couple of days last week due to serious migraines. She has chronic health issues and yet works much more than 8 hours a day usually, so she had to be totally disabled by the headaches. Hope yours goes away. And the cost of that medicine is outrageous. What about people who do not have the money? I thought about that all the time when we were paying an outrageous amount for one of the meds hubby took before his neck surgery. We could do it--but what about others? I'm glad you have the money, but hate that you have to spend it that way.

Today, I go to the dentist for the first time since I lost my dental insurance. That insurance was not very good, but at least it offset the cost a little. I think today, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and tell her that insurance or no, I'm ready to get a molar that is full of fillings crowned. She has been telling me for more than a year that I need to get this done before it blows up on me. I was ready to do that last fall when another crown broke and took priority.

Sheesh, did you get the sectional recovered? Our upholstery material arrived at the end of last week and the man who is doing the work picked up the loveseat yesterday morning. I'm a bit nervous because I only saw a small sample, and I know things look different in large form. But at worse, we also need a new loveseat in the basement den, so if I don't like it in the living room, down it goes.

Kelly, mentioning basements, how is yours coming along? From the pics, it looks like you'll have a lot of good space. I know you must be excited about getting it done. I wish we had a full basement. It's good to hear that Shawn's foot is improving and that he's interested in increasing his activity, too. It always helps me to have someone else to do things with. My hubby is dealing with plantar fasciitis again, so I'm kind of high and dry there. Soon I should be able to walk with Toni again. Hubby is 1A due to his job, so he got his first vaccine last Friday. Toni and I are 1C--me due to age (LOL) and her due to job, but we're still in line! I'll be so glad when everyone I care about--you ladies included--are fully vaccinated.

Well, I had better move along and get a few things done before my dentist appointment at 2 p.m. Before I go, here are my goals for the coming week:

* Stay within 12-1300 kcals each day.
* Increase the amount of fresh vegetables I'm eating. (I'm really not getting enough.)
* Set one time during a work day to spend at least 15 minutes doing something physical--walking, stretching, hand weights--something. I would try a dance video, but this gal has NO rhythm. Years ago when I was working on a minority health project, one of my team members who was multiracial told me that I just have TMWB. Later learned that means "too much White blood." I even embarrass myself!

Hope you have a happy hump day, everyone!

Not sure what happened with the dates, as I started a date thread too, so I'll move my post here:

You're right Lois, a reduction is a reduction! Awesome. It's always so interesting when we actually look back at our weight and analyze it to see what month/year was better. I know I'm at one of my higher weights right now and I have actually got on board with some motivation and started doing something about it. I stepped on the scale last week and saw 165 and cringed. I'm on day 4 of 10,000 steps straight, so I want to keep that up. Plus I have been cutting back on snacking.
That is insane how much you pay for those prescriptions. I can't even imagine!
Sorry I haven't posted lately. Last week I was busy with work and then on Friday, when I was at my office at work, I got a call that my son hurt his shoulder at school. Shawn picked him up and noticed right away that something wasn't right, so he took him into a doctor to get xrays and sure enough, broken collarbone in 2 places. Playing football outside at lunchtime and tripped. Ouch. Poor guy. As a 13 year old, at first I think he thought it was cool to be able to tell his friends he broke something and to show off his brace and sling, but the day after it happened, he could barely move without it hurting. Now, he seems to be doing much better. We were supposed to get a call within a few days of when it happened to find out if he needed surgery since it was broken in 2 places, but they didn't call so we're assuming that's good news. He has a follow up appointment on March 4 and we're hoping they tell us it's healing nicely. He was really looking forward to the ball hockey season this Spring, but he might have to miss it. We'll see.

    Great goals Sarah!
Our basement is coming along slowly. Shawn got the shower mostly installed and is running the water lines now. He is finishing off the venting today for cold and warm air ducts, then I think he's almost ready for the 2nd permit inspection. After that is done, then we can start the drywalling. I will be sooo happy once it's all done. Not only is it messy and dusty, but it takes away his time from the things he really wants to be doing. It especially takes away his mind from everything else. He's the type of person that lets his thoughts on a project consume him. I'm so lucky to have such a handy husband though. I can only imagine how much money we're saving at the fact that he can build all of these things himself. We were quoted on our deck at $50,000 .. .which was insane and we absolutely would have never paid that, but he did it for less than $13,000. We used composite decking instead of wood and it's pretty large deck, which is why it's so much.

That's great that you're so close to getting your vaccine. They are just starting the 95+ group in our province and First Nations peoples who are over 75. I can't wait for my Dad to get it. He just misses the 75 group, since he's 72. Soon though!

Reduction is a reduction! I was thinking of my weight, and not my lowest weight since I've gained, but my highest. Before the BB all of those many years ago I was 238+. And until this past Nov/Dec I jumped to 235+. The closest I've been since the BB. And I'm determined to not get there again. Hitting that 235 was a punch in the stomach (as Pillsbury as it might currently be), but I was crushed as I inched ever so close to reaching my highest weight again. In reflection, I did it then and I will do it again. I've been holding around the 230-232 range, lately. I'm searching for that mindset.

My migraines have subsided. And now working on selecting my next rx. My Zomig is $170/pill, which if taken early I usually only need 1 but I like to have 2-3 on hand. I was prepared for $75/pill so I'm toggling. Dr. called in a new rx yesterday to try when it strikes again, but I think I'm still going to cash pay for 2-3 of the Zomig. If the other doesn't work in a day or so, I will have that as my rescue. When I'm in the middle of a migraine running out for an rx is the last thing I want to do. Just trying to decide how much cash I want to lay out for my back up - $170 or $510. EEEK. I have to try this new rx and potentially one more before my insurance will add to my formulary. Anyway...others have worse problems than that. At least I do have the means to pay that if I need to. (did you catch that positive ?).

I did eat my protein bowls Monday night and yesterday. Lots of veggies. I truly wish I could have someone prepare my veggies every day...hahaha. They just taste so much better on the first two days.

Today I have to head to a sales office, I still haven't been back to my office nor ruffled anymore feathers about how I feel. I've been swamped and wiped out at the end of the day. It's on my to-do list.

Ok...super busy day but I wasn't sure I'd have time later this afternoon for any catch up.

Yikes. I've been getting activity every day, but I did order a bunch of girls scout cookies from my Cali granddaughter, and they arrived about a week ago. Munch, munch. . Lol.

Congrats on your reduction Lois. Gosh, I hate those migraines. So sorry, and sorry about your Texas folks. What a weird and awful disaster that is! Prayers are with them. I donated to help folks there. The money you're paying for migraine relief is ridiculous. What a racket big Pharma is in the USA.

Kelly, glad your hubby is feeling better, and getting on the TM. And, soon, you'll have that extra space in the basement. Sorry to hear about your son's broken collarbone. Ugh. How old is he? I'm surprised that Canada is getting the vaccine out slower than here. . Great news, my hubby got his first shot today, and I'm getting mine on Friday!! Hallelujah!

Sarah, we are neck and neck with our weight. Maybe we should spice things up with a little competitiveness :D

Sorry to rush off, but I've had 2 grandchildren and next up is family zoom. BTW, I think our daughter is going for it with a courthouse or a small venue /small wedding on March 25 or 26. Stay tuned.

    Gotta run.

Happy to see everyone posting! So encouraging!

With the migraine meds - it's a brand name and I guess not life threatening. I could get the narcotics for $10 and go with those, but they make me feel yucky the next day. I do take them when nothing else works, but I HATE HATE HATE that feeling. So there are less expensive options so I feel super lucky that I am able to make the choice. I picked up the generic alternatives yesterday for $7. Hopefully I won't have to test them for a while, but I did order 2 of ones I want and they should be picking them up today.

Kelly you are so fortunate to have a handy hubby. My dad was super handy as well and I learned a lot from him, not enough to take on a job like that, but I can fix some minor stuff. Your son's injury sounds painful. Hoping your son does not need surgery and he heals quickly and he can return to hockey in the spring.

Sheesh - I love hearing of your grandchildren/family zoom calls! So happy to hear your daughter my do a courthouse wedding. One day we'll be back to normal...I pray for it to be much sooner rather than later.

I was thinking of taking off the last few hours of the day when I returned home from my sales office visit yesterday, but then I got sucked into one email and bam it was almost 6! Ah well. We are in our busy sales season and we may not be this busy in a few months.

Well gotta get back to work...

Lois, I'm glad you have meds available to you for those awful migraines. Take it easier at work though. . I'll bet stress is a major trigger.

I'm jumping back on for a quick post because I didn't answer Kelly's question about the Apple Fitness + workouts. They're really great! If you have an Apple Watch, they are yours. You don't have to pay for them or have an Apple TV box. Just click the fitness app on your iPhone or iPad. It's the 3 rings symbol you're trying to close every day. If you don't have it on you device, you just download it from the App Store. When you have it, click the 3 ring symbol and then at the bottom you'll see "summary", "fitness+", and "sharing". Click on "Fitness+" . . browse the workouts . . there is dance, core, treadmill, yoga, HIIT, . . and also some "get started" workouts. They sync with your Apple Watch and give you the workout time credit. If you have an Apple TV box, you can stream the workout to your TV.

Also, I wanted to tell Sarah that I did finally get my sofa reupholstered, and it looks great. Our only complaint is it isn't softened up yet, lol. It's a large sectional with a lounge chair on one side that I usually "claim" ha ha. But, I've had hubby sitting there to try to soften it up for me more quickly! He teases me that I think he's chubby . . but he isn't. Just heavier. Anyway, what a nightmare that was. Discontinued fabric, lost fabric, found fabric, Covid (my upholsterer got it and had to recover before I would let him in), upholsterer being in a traffic accident . . . good grief. It will be a long time before I feel like taking on another home improvement project.

I had an issue with our family Zoom last night . . I kept getting kicked off, and only ended up being able to participate for about 20 minutes. :( Today, I uninstalled/reinstalled Zoom, and restarted my laptop. I sometimes feel like I don't know what I'm doing . . haven't had a job in too long. If you ladies have any suggestions, please share. FaceTime is an option, but also has issues with too many participants.

I'm off to get a workout, and then grandkids online this afternoon. I hope the technology works . .

Have a great day. I'm trying harder to watch my intake and drink more water today.

Yay! But I think the number is a bit skewed. I was super sick last night and I'm pretty sure I had food poisoning. Once it was over, I felt good, but man, that was brutal. In saying that, I have been focusing a lot more on my food intake and my activity. Today will be 7 days of over 10,000 steps, which is actually over 11,000 and I'm averaging 12,000. I feel much better focusing on making sure I get my treadmill walk in daily, even though some days it's really hard to go and do it.

Thanks Sheesh! I will have to go and take a look to see about those Fitness+ workouts. I don't use Zoom, so I'm not much help there. Maybe it's just your wifi or internet? In that case, a reboot of your modem might help. That's great news about you getting the vaccine today!! Wow you guys are definitely WAY farther ahead on vaccines than us. Partly the issue is that all of the vaccines are produced in the States. We have a queue calculator on our provincial website to see how far we are from getting the vaccine and currently if 70% of eligible people get the vaccine, then my age category is still 501,597 ahead of me lol My Dad, who is 71 years old, has 112,449 people ahead of him. And as of yesterday, our province has only given 102,360 doses out. We were majorly delayed because of the vaccine shortage and then the storm in the States put another hold on things. Hopefully they ramp up and go faster.

Lois.. ah yes work... that's what I'm about to go and do. Happy Friday though!

Kelly, I am so sorry you had that sick episode. Food poisoning is terrible. The only thing worse is norovirus, and that's because it lasts longer.

A 12,000 step average is awesome! Some of the loss might be water from the sickness, but with those steps, I'm sure some is not from that. So good going! :) With the weather, work, and your son's accident (hope he's doing okay), that is not easy to do. I'm impressed.

It's time for me to get my step average up, too. For the past 28 days, Fitbit says it was 10,778 and for the past 7 it was 10,709. So I'm in kind of a rut. I know that when my body gets used to something, my weight stays the same or edges up.

Sheesh, we use zoom a lot for both work and personal stuff and we were having trouble, too. Since we have access to IT people through work, we reached out and a CDC tech said it could be our router. The one we had was several years old, so we bit the bullet and got a new one, and lo and behold, the problems went away. So I guess that was it.

And it's so great that you're getting the vaccine. Hubby will get his second in a couple of weeks, but I still can't get an appointment. We are just not getting enough vaccine in this state. I'm getting anxious.

And Lois, I forgot to answer your question about whether you can transmit the virus after having had the vaccine. It's all new and there are still a lot of unknowns, but we do know that the vaccines are not 100% effective. Like flu shots, they reduce your risk of infection and keep you from getting as sick if you do get it, but don't eliminate your risk. So you might contract the virus and be asymptomatic and thus give it to people. That's why we say that people should still wear masks, at least until enough of the population is vaccinated. And then there's the issue of new variants that the existing vaccine may not be as effective against. All viruses mutate, and this one does, too. Besides the ones we hear about (the UK variant, the South African variant and the Brazilian variant), there are others and will be more. It's the nature of a virus. So for a while, we need to continue wearing masks, social distancing, etc. even if we're vaccinated.

And on that cheery note, I'll say goodnight! I just logged on to put in my dinner, and it was not a good day intake -wise. We had takeout from a Japanese place tonight. The total kcals were not bad, but oh lordy, the sodium and fat. :s I'm sure the scale will show it tomorrow.

Got my first vaccine last Friday, and I had no symptoms from it other than a slightly sore arm for one day. I didn't even feel the needle. The second dose is scheduled for March 19th. Also, news from me is that our daughter here is finally getting married on March 25th. They're having it at our clubhouse, just his immediate family and daughter, officiant, and us. And, also a man they hired to do a Zoom broadcast to our Cali and Or family and their friends. The pandemic has given rise to professional Zoom people, and he will broadcast from several angles, play the music, and provide recordings of the event! We're serving only finger food, cake and champagne before, with standing tables and windows open if possible. And then all going to a very nice local restaurant where a large private room will be provided. They're staying close for a honeymoon, going to Park City. His parents will also be vaccinated, and we'll still use masks and distance. Oh, and by the way, that date is mine and hubby's 45th wedding anniversary, lol! It just worked out that it had to be that date, and they are happy because they think we've had good luck, lol. I tried on my dress, and it still fits, but is a bit more snug. So, I'm more serious about intake starting today!

Kelly, congratulations on your reduction! Sorry about your illness . . ugh. Food poisoning is awful, but I'm glad it passed quickly. I'm sure you lost more than water weight, especially since you've been walking more. Way to go :) Hope your son is doing better. Will he need surgery? Hopefully, the vaccine will get rolling better now.

Sarah, I feel so much better knowing great people like you are working on data concerning this virus. I'm finally starting to feel like we'll get past this thing. . . gotta get everyone vaccinated as fast as possible. And, I'm glad you're getting 10K + steps. It's hard to get more than that. I've found that changing up the workouts, doing a HIIT or weight workout is what will kick up the weight/fat loss. Most HIIT workouts only take 10 minutes. I hate them, but they sure do work fast.

Lois, thinking of you and your migraines. I pray you're feeling better, and that they'll stay away! Have you gotten time with Rhea? Yesterday, the girls in the family had our online "book club" that the 8 year old organized :D We all finished the book, and I was so impressed with the discussion. Kids are smarter than you think! Also, snacks and soft drinks were enjoyed, and 2 of them played the piano for us. They're the best.

Off to get a workout. I need it.

    Good morning,

Not much to report on over here. Still making sure I get my 10,000 steps a day (today will be Day 11). This week my goals are to continue with getting my 10,000 steps, to drink 2 bottles of my 32oz water bottle a day and to pay attention to the portions of food I'm eating.

The hubby is busy with the basement this week. Drywall and doors are getting delivered today and then he has his 2nd permit inspection on Thursday. Hopefully all goes well and he can continue on. I can't wait for it to be done.
Our Son has his follow up appointment on Thursday and we're obviously hoping they tell us that it's healing well and fast. They didn't call us about surgery, so we're hopeful that's a good sign. Maybe they want to wait for this first follow up to see what the x-ray shows. He has been in very minimal pain and hasn't been taking any meds for the past week, so that's good. We should also hear about our province's plans on loosening even more restrictions this week too. They're taking the slow approach, which is good. I really can't wait for things to be good again, but I'm sure it'll be a least another year with all of these variants coming into the picture.

That's great news about your daughter's wedding Sheesh! And how awesomely sweet is it that it's on your wedding anniversary?! I thought it was cool that our anniversary, my parents and my brother's are all in the same month, but to have them on the same day, that's neat. I'm sure it'll be a memorable day, even if it's small and intimate. The Zoom thing sounds good too, especially if you don't have to worry about it yourself and hired someone.

Ok.. off to get some work done. Keep steppin' Sarah!
