2nd 5K Today

I did my second 5K since completing C25K today. It was a huge race, nearly 4000 runners. The route was also very hilly. I ran the entire thing. It was still a challenge, but felt easier than my first one in June. My time was 34:55. Which is good, but I'm a little disappointed since it is only a 42 sec improvement. I know I should be happy with progress, but I guess I thought I would see a bigger change. Maybe i slowed down on those hills more than I thought. I did track my fastest pace in mile 2, 10:20. Am I being too hard on myself?

I do think you are being too hard on yourself. Hills unless you practice them routinely can take a lot out of you. A 34:55 5k is wonderful!! You will get better in time but you have to give yourself that time, and positive reinforcement.

I think you are being hard on yourself, hills take it out of your legs and I bet there were lots of people round about you which can put you off your pacing.

I think the fact you thought it was easier to run (despite the hills) means you're improving and you shouldn't be so hard on yourself.

I can't imagine running with 4000 people - silly question, does it get really hot?

A 42 second improvement with that many people is great! Congrats!

I guess I am being too hard on myself. It was a big race with a difficult course and not once was I tired enough to even consider walking. I don't do much hill work, so I'm sure that slowed me down. Something to work on for next time. Also with so many runners, it was a challenge to pass people at times. I have a 10K in two weeks, after that I'm thinking about doing Rundoubles 14 week 5K improver program.
