Living the Lifestyle - The Ides of March 2021

We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - newmantjn (Todd)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard

Today's Topic: Tax Time

With the Ides upon us, the federal Ides is coming up in a month. Are you ready? Are you an early filing planner? Are you waiting until the last minute? Do you know where you stand?

Weight-related? Sure - we’ll see if people who plan their food and activity put the same rigor into their finances.

Yup, I’m a planner. Our taxes are done, and will be filed within a week. There will be a moderate refund on the federal side. If we owed, we would file now and send the payment April 15th.

We have ours professionally prepared each March. My wife can produce a transaction report for any non-cash transaction we've made in the last 30 years. Our accountant loves her.

We have ours professionally prepared as well - ironic, because for the past two years I’ve volunteered with AARP Tax-Aide doing taxes for the elderly and low income.

I use turbo tax. House is paid off and taxes are limited to 10k. We sure don't give 15k in charity, so it's the standard deduction for us. I own a metric s-ton this year. This, despite having additional withheld last year. I'm not too happy. Also, not in a hurry to pay up. My finances are in a huge state of flux with my recent retirement.

We have them professionally prepared and almost always file an extension.

We have them done (my cousin is a retired CPA but works hard at tax time 🙂). That being said, I have nothing to do with them! DH handles it. So relating that to weight loss, I apparently need a personal chef and meal planner 😂
