When I was in my 20's, someone said that if you feel down the first thing that you should do is choose to smile. He insisted that you should look in a mirror and force yourself to smile. He stated that if you chose to smile, that your subconscious would believe your smile and change your attitude. Now I am 70 and I know what he said was true is true.

By the way, when I first heard what I wrote above, I thought, "What a bunch of bull!"7

on today's topic https://www.nbcnews.com/better/health/smiling-can-trick-your-brain-happiness-boost-your-health-ncna822591
I remember being told to force yourself to smile because you cannot physically be angry and smile at the same time. Recently, on a particular stressful day, I tried it. Man it was hard to do, but I could feel the reaction. So odd that we are built this way.6 -
and when you DO smile at someone it is almost as contagious as a yawn... spread the good.
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? yes - I went for some easy strolling walks today
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes
Im about 24 hrs in and running a low grade fever now but I still tell myself it's a HECK of a lot better than the alternative of getting Covid19!

Took a pass day because I had a low grade fever and nausea. Still convinced it was flu vaccine yesterday combined with a run down system from a chaotic 10 days. Got an app that uses heart rate variability to predict your readiness to train. The day started telling me I could do a very light session but that dropped to recovery only. Out of a total of 10, I was only at 1,5 today. Resting was definitely the right choice today.10

I don't think I'll find time to exercise in the next few days. Will do the minimum and see through the day if I could do more.
@SModa61 I never thought about it before. I do smile most of the time, even when I'm starting to get angry, but the moment I snap nothing can make me laugh. Now I want to try smiling when I'm angry, to see how I would feel 🤔 a very interesting information.

Positive thinking- today is a new day and I’m going to try to hit the three goals every day. Yes, I won’t be in the winners circle, but hopefully I’ll lose and not gain.6 -
I should be on everyday again... My Mother had a massive heart attack in March. She is doing well...very blessed. I dropped off the boards - but thanks to the accountability challenges from the past year - I was still in the mindset to aim for my 20 minutes or more a day and to track on most days.
Anyway - I'm out of the circle for April due to not tracking for a bit - but I'm back on it.
So - tracked all food today.
Exercise - yep - walking dogs and possibly zumba and weights later - but that's tbd after a 6 hr drive
Hoping for the best.
Hugs to all members I've known awhile. Look forward to reconnecting. For newbies - "howdy".

@dsgoingtodoit Glad to see you back. Sorry about the heart attack, but glad that your mom has recovered well. Glad your previous time in the UAC helped you to best take care of yourself.
@thabit11 I'll be curious about your experiment.
@theresam787 Rough starts happen, but it sounds like you have the right mindset going forward. Last month I had 18 passes, but that was better than 31.
@dory_42 and @summerskier Hope tomorrow has you both feeling better post vaccine.2 -

September 14, 2020 – 153.0April has arrived and I am sitting here reflecting back on this month. It is the first month since September that I have closed the month with an “up”. That said, an up had to come at some point since at some point one is no longer trying/needing to lose weight, and I had passed my original goal back in January, I believe. The up on its own would be fine, but the habits, or lack thereof, that crept into my March are the concern. So, for the month of April, I will be focusing on returning to preplanning/pre-tracking as much as is possible and to not just thrown in the day it does not go as planned. I know that I know how to re-group and I need to make sure I find the time and energy for that. I want to up my cardio. Yes, I am “group walking” every day which burns calories, but honestly, I could walk at that pace for hours and hours without effort. I need to push myself, here and there, again. I will also be trying to maintain the social aspect of the group walks as well, so juggling all those time commitments will take a little focus. Lastly, I need to return to adding back exercises. I have not planked in a month, and rarely done exercises other than walking, running, or biking. So I need to figure out how to include bodyweight or dumbbell workouts. Here’s to April.April History

*** Sitting here as I write this, I have to wonder if posting my thoughts here this morning helped me to frame and get through the day. This morning, I did actually expect today to be a pass day, despite the slight optimism I expressed in my post. Ten minutes later, I decided to track a tentative day – carrot cake, stuffed shells and all. When I got done, I saw that even with every food included I could meet my calorie goals for the day. Portion control was the key. The plan was 90% accurate and the other 10% was adjusted on the fly. When I added something, I took something else away (sorry salad :P ). I enjoyed Easter with no pass today. The success feels good!

I wanted something chocolate all day long. And my sweet hubby picked me up a small container of Rebel's Keto Triple Chocolate Ice Cream (my fav!) So after dinner I was able to have a small portion and still come in under my calorie goal. Also, in April I'm not eating ANY of my exercise calories.6 -
