So three yes for today even though I got on the bike at 10 pm for a 20 minute ride to not use another pass. Food all tracked and meeting goals.
@Pamjsa I started "official" maintenance on March and have had a lot of stumbles since then, but I keep getting back on track, which is a positive change for me. As for weight, my lowest to my highest since March 1 is a 5.2 lb range, with the majority of those weights within a 2 lb range. I still have lots of learning and practice to go for maintenance to become natural.5 -

17th May
Slightly chaotic day, but it's a 3 x Yes.
Lots of exercise, at least 60 minutes walking, partly because when I got to Paris, lots of Metro stations were closed and I had to walk a lot.
Calories: way under. I didn't get to my hotel until 11pm, due to closure of Metro stations and a cancelled train from Montpellier, and by that time I just wasn't hungry any more and too tired. MFP refused to close ...
Logged everything I had at home.
Working today, home late tonight.5 -

Used up my pass days for the month and then some this weekend. Logged and walked, but went over on calories. No regrets, though. First weekend being fully vaccinated and had family over for the first time in over a year.
Today was a 3 YES day, barely. Yummy leftovers are hard to eat on moderation. Back to the gym tomorrow and hopefully back on track.5 -

Exercise : hmmmmmm, about 8 hours worth? Started the day with a 4 mile walk and then spent 7 more hours In the garden. Everything is planted, compost is spread, leaves are almost all laid down. I’m exhausted, but in a good way.
Tracked: yes
Under cals: yes

Hi @biketheworld!
I think 6 weeks total...1 week quarantine...2 weeks with us...2-3 at with his wife’s family & friends.
I realized today how much happier I was just knowing he was on the same continent!
Thanks!5 -

Our daughter is looking for alternative home stay programs within the United States.
Awww Rick, I’m sorry to hear this. I do know there are many great nature-based programs in the US.0 -

The first time I flew this month, after not flying for over 14 months, I was not prepared and had a pass day. This time, I planned but then the flight was delayed for over 2 hours. So in all, I waited at the airport for over 3 1/2 hours. I sat. I had a drink and a salad while reading. I was about to order another drink and some cheesecake. Then I thought about my workout earlier in the day and all my efforts to plan. Then I thought about having to enter all those things in MFP and then here. So I got up and walked and walked and walked and then walked some more. I did not have to take a pass day. In all honesty, it could have gone either way, but the UAC tipped the scale a bit. Thank you all.10 -
Yes x 3 both yesterday and today.
I've spent this month of May trying to figure out how maintenance will work for me. At my first weigh-in, I was up about a pound; at my second (yesterday), I was down slightly more than that. I know it's not realistic to expect that my weight will stay exactly the same from week to week, but I'm trying to decide how much of a range is "normal." Any thoughts? In the old days, I gave myself a 5-pound range and figured I was fine if I stayed within it. That feels a little more flexible than I'm comfortable with right now.
I think it’s pretty much trial and error as everyone is different. My weight fluctuates day to day by as much as 2-5 pounds depending on my salt intake, water intake, travel schedule. I try to weigh every day but I mentally track the average of my daily weights on a weekly basis. That eliminates a lot of the daily fluctuations.
My original plan was to lose 10-15 pounds (this takes me many months because I don’t want to lose muscle) and then go into maintenance for about 6 months to try to adjust my metabolism to the lower weight and work on building strength. Then I would lose another 10-15 pounds and repeat the process. In May of 2020, I was down some more and decided to do maintenance again for 6 months. It’s been a year now - oops. But it’s all good. During that time, I picked a weight 5 pounds over and weighed every day or so, so that if I went above that number I could tighten the reigns. I was absent from UAC for many months and came back this month as I went above the 5 pound mark - I went over the mark by 8 pounds. So I am out of maintenance and working on those 8 pounds. It’s far easier to catch it early. My plan is to lose those 8 and then work on another 10 pounds. Then maintenance again for a bit.
This may be more detail than you were looking for. The short answer - different things work for different people. It’s individual trail and error. And we have to do what is comfortable for us. I don’t obsess but rather stay conscious. I am trying to live a healthier life so that I can enjoy life and be active well into my 100s.8 -
Yes x 3. I went for a bike ride at lunch hour today and after work. The weather was just beautiful; a perfect late spring day!5
-
@readyornot1234 - wow - your commitment is so impressive and inspiring! I love your goal of staying active into your 100’s - I want to be that person too!
In the past couple months I have learned more about maintenance than I ever heard in 50 years. It’s a shame the diet industry makes millions talking about losing weight with precious little time spent talking about maintenance. I have an official maintenance break planned for the end of the year, so although I’ve had weeks go by holding steady, I’ve never technically said, “ok, maintenance time.”
@pamjsa - based on everything I’ve heard, go by what you’re comfortable with. What I’ve been hearing most people do is a 5 to 10 pound range, although personally, 10 pounds seems like a big range. I think I’d want to make sure things don’t get out of control. I did hear someone on a podcast say that she stopped weighing herself, this was after she’d been at her goal weight awhile. Instead, she looks at her body every day to see if anything looks different, and uses how her clothes fit instead of the scale. She felt it was a better indicator of how she was doing, than a number on the scale. I’m nowhere near that, but I thought it was a intriguing approach.4 -

Walked 1, ran 4, walked .25.
10 min yoga (baby steps)
Trying to up my protein to 178g a day as my trainer said 1-1.5 grams per pound and I’m 178lbs. It’s proving challenging to do without having a way higher number of carbs since most of my vegetarian protein go to choices are not carb free, and I can only eat egg whites so many times a day. This will be a work in progress. Protein shakes may need to become a way of life.
Wow, that is a lot of protein! I aim for 90+g and that's difficult even though I'm a meat eater.2 -
