We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday – 88Olds
Wednesday - newmantjn (todd)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard
Today's Topic: The Long And Winding Road
Is there an issue in weight loss that you find you must constantly revisit? Have there been times when you thought you’ve put it behind you only to find that you are back to that same thing? Do you still wish it would go away or are you getting around to accepting that its just how things are going to be? Sound familiar?

Snacking. Well, over snacking. About 18 months ago, closing in on 15 years at goal weight I had this thought- Ya know, unless I lose my mind (possible) I’m not gaining it back.
And then stuff happens and we’re on lockdown. More boredom, anxiety, stress and what have you led to more unplanned snacking. And guess what? The upward march of the scale commenced.
I waited 15 years for that “I got this” thought to come around. It lasted a few months. Back to work.0 -
I think every issue has remained on the table (pardon the pun) for me.
The biggest issue? Binge-ettes. I’ll get a craving, like donuts, and fight it for a while until I conclude it’s better to have the donuts and see if the craving goes away. Twenty-four points later, it did. Or I’ll have a day when I’m going to be outside the healthy eating range, and I’ll just say “the heck with it” and throw on another twenty or thirty points.
Confirming previous observation that, even on my good day, I’m still just a fat guy who is occasionally in remission.0 -
Ditto what those 2 guys said!
And I will add in my own "tracking!" I will get to it tomorrow!0 -
Always said it ws the alcohol, but now I guess it IS the food. Intake, that is.0

Snacking and alcohol are my two constant topics requiring attention (and they often go hand-in-hand). I don't think I've ever felt that I've put those issues behind me. Instead they seem to be more influenced by "habit" and "local-factors." The local-factors are issues like boredom, stress, and the like. These allow me to rationalize that having a snack, or a beer, will be beneficial because of their calming effects.
Ha ha, yeah, now that I've written that I can see how dysfunctional it is!
Once I "allow" myself to go down that road for a day or two, it becomes easier to rationalize it in the future. Then I'm off to the races.
I do wish these issues would just go away, but I know they won't. I'm resigned to the idea of remaining vigilant.1
