Thought I'd go for a fun light topic today. Have a great rest of the weekend.
Music can motivate and increase energy and mood, but it can also calm the mind and relax the body.
How do you use music to assist in your goals?
If you have playlist(s) to share, please do so in a “spoiler”.

Me, I use music to motivate during my solo walks. I have found that the right songs energize me and I also find that the help set or push my pace, hence finding that the right BPM songs matters for me.
Here is my walking playlist i started with in the fall, but I need to update as many songs are too slow now. Looking for new ideas. Looking for more in the 140+ BPM range.Love Shack by B-52’s – 134 BPM
3 by Brittney Spears – 135 BPM
Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springstein – 149 BPM
Nowhere to Run by the Commitments – 132 BPM
You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive – 128 BPM
Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran – 127 BPM
Calabria 2008 by Enur – 126 BPM
Let’s Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez – 131 BPM
Bulletproof by La Roux – 123 BPM
Get this Party Started by Pink – 129 BPM
I know you want me by Pitbull – 127 BPM
Trouble by Pink – 128 BPM
Material Girl by Madonna – 137 BPM
Cooler than me by Mike Posner – 130 BPM
Womanizer by Brittney Spears – 139 BPM
Hot N Cold By Katy Perry – 132 BPM
Gangnam Style by PSY – 132 BPM
SOS by Rihana – 137 BPM
On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez – 130 BPM
Shake it Off by Taylor Swift – SongBPM claims 160 BPM
I used songbpm.com for the BPM data4 -
Morning run. First time I did trail run since COVID. It felt tough during and I walked often but did the 5km under 40 minutes so it wasn’t that slow for me.
I decided not to log food as it was my last day of holiday (even though COVID took most of the fun out of my holiday) but then changed my mind and logged what I had eaten and it came under budget so no pass day!!!
Looking forward to getting back to all my animals tomorrow.
Oh I do have a running playlist which is based on the lyrics of the songs rather than the actual music. I look for motivational lyrics especially those that motivate my Jiu Jitsu game as I use running as time to think through my Jiu Jitsu.10 -

Sunday 6th June
3 x Yes
Exercise: Yes. I went off for a walk at 8am this morning, as the forecast was for 27° for today. Walked quite fast for 45 minutes, only saw about 10 other people. Popped into a shop to pick up some veg for lunch, then marched on for another 15 minutes, so 60 minutes completed!
Calories: Yes, stayed under. A bit of clever juggling and careful weighing. I made my partner a roast chicken lunch with roast potatoes, carrots and green beans, then salad, then cheese, then dessert of Haagen Dasz and mixed red fruits. He also had coffee and chocolate, I didn't! The icecream had been lurking in the back of the freezer compartment for some time and I was happy to get rid of most of it. Also the chocolate. Dined on leftover chicken and salad.
Tracking: Yes, logged everything. I had pre-planned almost all of the day's meals, so I would know exactly how much to measure out and wouldn't go over budget.
Played the piano.
Yes, music is really important for me. Mostly classical, sooo happy I can go to live concerts again but I also like jazz, love the blues and play more 'poppy' music as well, love loud rock. At home I use a CD player. I have an antique MP3 player with a wonderful, eclectic collection of songs, from the odd 60s song through the decades, but stopping maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I cannot stand electronic stuff, rap or Eurovision material. I have recently powered this device up, as my walks have become longer and I do intend to use it ... Playlist would be far too long!

@craftyislandgal the reason that won't work for me is I'll "cheat" and listen to the rest. :P Glad it works for you!1 -

I don't have any music playlists to share, unfortunately. Walks are my Zen time where I take it all in as I go. On runs I really like being aware of what's around me since I run on heavily traveled trails or roads/sidewalks, so no music there either. While I could listen to music during morning stretches/isometrics (I justcall that yoga instead because it's shorter) or strength workouts, I don't. Honestly, I would probably hate any music during strength sessions, even my favorites. I seem to hate everything in between sets. A beautiful butterfly could land in front of me and I would probably tell it to f off in between sets. So I just focus on getting to the next set to get that crap over with! I do feel much better afterwards though.7 -
Exercise YES (yoga and walking)
Calories YES (under 1,300)

Background music played by yoga instructor.
Walking - yes definitely music, TED talks or phone calls to friends.8 -
Well, I thought I'd try to go without an AC this summer since I'd be gone for the month of July. Hit 90+ here in NYC, AC ordered! Hoping it comes by the early delivery date. Even with the fan blowing on me full speed, it was not fun doing a 30 min spin.
I love putting on headphones and pacing around my apt listening to music (pop, disco, oldies). If I'm just looking to relax, I'll listen to some Nina Simone or Adele.

What a fun question @SModa61!
@WhatMeRunning's anti-workout music stance made me giggle. I get it even though I prefer workout music. Whatever you need to focus and get through...do that!
As for me I have several private SoundCloud playlists: one for 🚴🏿♀️, one for 💃🏾, one for 🚶🏿♀️, another for 🏃🏿♀️. Then there's various "mix tape" playlists with DJ sets which are at least an hour long. I have other playlists (like Debussy, Ravel and a meditation one) but they aren't for exercise.

I am huge on playlists when I run. The sounds I make when running are not comforting and I must drown them out 😂. I will attempt to remember to post an update with my go to songs when I get to a computer and I’m not doing the update on my phone. I am looking forward to inspiration for additions from everyone else!
Good day here. Lots of food prep done, laundry done, exercise, and sun. Our pool drives me nuts as we acquired it with the house two years ago, it’s older, we’ve had at least 8 different leaks, the pump had to be replaced, and it gives me some major anxiety. However, this face is totally worth it.

@craftyislandgal I like that idea!
Yes x 3 today. It's been easy this week for me as I was on vacation so my time was my own. We'll see how I make out next week.
I'm not a big music lover. Don't know why but it tends to get on my nerves. Having said that, I do listen to music to work stress out of my system. But exercising and a good Netflix binge does the same thing lol.
I plan on listening to podcasts this summer while in the pool. Thought I would start this week but didn't yet for whatever reason. I guess I like the peace and self reflection. Or perhaps I just like my own company lol.10 -

I use music to help me keep pace ( and motivated) as I jog. I only use 1 ear bud so I can still be aware of my surroundings at all times.
I also like to listen to music as I clean. Makes mundane chores more pleasant. Finally, if I’m having a tough day, cranking up some praise music helps me have an eternal perspective and get the focus off myself!

Tracked:✅
Under:✅
I actually initially went over by 34 calories and had to go for a mile and a half walk to get back under. Wouldn’t have been that big a deal, but after having a stressful day, I feared I would just go for broke if I didn’t get back under.10 -
June 6:
✔️ EXERCISE: Yes. 20 minutes walking.
✔️ CALORIES: Yes. Today was a fasting day.
✔️ TRACK: Yes.
PASSES USED: 1/3 (5Jun)
"Failure is an event, not a person." Zig Ziglar.
A couple of days ago was my grandson's 11th birthday. He chose IHOP for his birthday dinner (which is also one of MY favorite places!! I had asked his daddy if we could go to dinner Monday night, but somehow we got our wires crossed, and my grandson thought it was tonight. He called me at 6pm and asked where I was!
I didn't want to disappoint him, so I told him I was on my way!! But today was a fasting day for me - so I sat with him and watched him eat chocolate pancakes with whipped cream and chocolate chips and just drank water!!
It wasn't too bad - as much as I like chocolate, that wouldn't've been my choice, so I wasn't tempted! And 11 is such a cool age and we had a great time. I told him we'd have to come back another time, SOON!!!
I rarely listen to music when I walk - I prefer listening to audiobooks (from the library) on the Libby app. I probably "read" 2-3 books a week this way. I will sometimes dance for exercise to gospel music or praise music.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 30 minute walk.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Nope. This is the second day in June I have gone over my calorie limit, and my walk did not do enough to offset my extra intake. It was our first time eating at a restaurant since February 22, 2020. So, I celebrated.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
I am going to up my exercise this week. MFP and this group are keeping me accountable and making me really pay attention. Thank you to everyone!

It was a beautiful summer day at the farm. First time for having a drone taking aerial photos. The evening sunset sky was pink, blue, gray, magenta and touches of neon aquamarine.
Exercise: lots of walking; farm activity and lift/carry
Calories: under my limit
Tracking: okeedokee11 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, an 87 minute trail run/walk, and 90 minutes strength training.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
The only time I don't listen to music while exercising is when I'm on the bicycle. If I'm running or walking I use my ipod Classic set on shuffle and away we go. Indoors I crank up the stereo with a hard rock or metal cd for everything but yoga or Pilates. I'm a hardcore music lover so I do listen to just about anything though, depending on my mood.
Day #18 75 Hard Challenge completed.9 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? I did! I did! 1 hour (11.3 miles) on my bike. 1.25 hours (walking the dog - when she wants to stop, it takes an act of god to move her sometimes... and when she wants to go, all I can do is hang on. Seriously, though, she's not really that bad... well, about the stopping to sniff... it's close! So 2.25 hours in total - I might get another 10 minutes or so a little later when we take Sienna for her last walk of the night.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes, but only because of the extra allowance for all the exercise. We went out to dinner to a new place tonight. I got a relatively healthy chicken sandwich, but also had the garlic truffle fries.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes, yes I did.

Yes x 3 today, and I planned out my exercise for the rest of the week, so no excuses.
I almost always listen to music when I go out for a walk. I have several different playlists, depending on my purpose. Sometimes I'm just trying to walk off a bad mood (for which I use the playlist appropriately titled Mood), and sometimes I'm trying to Work It Out. Other times, I'm just out there to Walk the Walk. Once in a while I'll listen to a podcast instead of music. I'm a huge fan of Brene Brown's podcast Unlocking Us. My rule is that if I want to keep listening, I have to keep walking.9
