Hi, ladies. I am so sorry to be MIA for a full week. I don't think I've done that since we started in MFP in 2013! I did weigh last Wednesday morning and had planned to log in before we got on the road, but both of us had to work late on Tuesday evening, so all the laundry, packing, and getting the house and kitties ready for the sitter was left until Wednesday. It was 2 p.m. before we left and we came back to the house two times for things we forgot before we could even get on the beltway. :#

This turned out to be an expensive trip. We didn't think think to check, and it turned out to be graduation for Liberty University, which is in Lynchburg, VA. That's the halfway mark and where we break our trip. We used to drive 10 straight hours, but the past few years, we've done it in two legs. Anyway, because all the hotels were full they were charging much more than usual. We paid more than $300 for a very ordinary hotel room for one night. On the way back, it was a little more than half that. Gas was also high. We almost didn't go because of the gas shortage caused by the Colonial Pipeline hack, but since we had arranged time off, we decided to go halfway and reassess. Luckily, hubby has an app that tells him gas availability and prices, and we checked it 6 minutes after a Sheets station near our hotel opened back up! I also don't get paid leave now that I'm part-time--so ouch!

But it was good to finally check on my sister and BIL. We got there on Thursday, and on Friday, we made the rounds visiting aunts and uncles and had dinner with one of my cousins. On Saturday, Sis was feeling a little better, so we went out for a very late lunch. She also sat in the family room for a while on Saturday and again on Sunday. Some days she cannot get out of bed, so that was really a good thing. I think if she got out more often, she might do better. I think having us there gave her the encouragement to get dressed and give it a try.

Going there is always a little motivating for me because it makes me so grateful to be able to as much as I can. Now if I can just keep that going. It has not translated into lots of steps since we got back, though. Monday night after the trip, I was drained. The traffic was super terrible on the way back in. Traffic flying by in 12 lanes with construction on both sides is super stressful. I mention the construction because it results in gravel in the roadway, and a piece picked up by a fast moving vehicle hit our car and broke the window on the passenger side. So now we have to deal with Geico and getting that fixed. Actually, Geico is great to deal with, but I wonder what this will do to our premiums. We've been hit in parking lots twice in the past couple of years, too--once a hit and run, and once by young woman who tried to cut through the parking lot and misjudged her turn. Not our fault either time, but I've heard they do mark people who seem to have bad "car karma." LOL

So I did get 10K steps 3 times on the trip, one day was barely 3K and the others somewhere in between. So my daily average fell from more than 10K per day to around 7K a day. I also did not try to log food during the trip because I just can't do that on my phone and I just didn't feel motivated to set up my laptop regularly. This all means that this coming week, I need to increase my activity and log, log, log, and also pay attention to the content of my food. I know a lot of what we ate from restaurants down there was full of fat, carbs, and sugar. To keep me honest, I'll report on all that next week.

Sheesh, regarding the BP, I think we have to look at what is more important sometimes--feeling good and keeping our BP and other numbers okay or keeping calories down. I know I will do the same, i.e., look good on paper and feel not so hot.

Kelly, I am so glad Ella did not have COVID and is getting better. As you ladies suspected, my work is a bit hectic as so many guidelines are changing and we are having to update all of our materials and answer more questions from both healthcare providers and the public. But it's nice that the changes are because things are getting better.

Well, my lunch break is over, and I have to get back to it. Lois, I hope you're feeling less down. We all go through those times. I've been sending you some good vibes. Hope you've felt them. And I hope everyone has a great hump day. Loved catching up on your posts and looking forward to hearing more.

Sarah - great job at maintaining while traveling!! Glad you got to see your sis and bil. Seeing family is so important. And I get the expensive trip part. I think I mentioned we were supposed to have gone to Las Vegas this past weekend. Even tho we were going to stay with friends/family, so many places would be so busy because in AZ and NV, the colleges/universities and high schools graduate early to mid may since they start late July early August.

Sheesh - gosh you BP issues sounds a bit scary. I used to have low bp but I don't think I've ever had those reactions to it. Please be careful. Good for you for still getting everything else done!! You are a true role model.

Kelly - so glad to hear about your injection and no real reaction. That's wonderful news. Keep moving the arm and drinking lots of water...those were instructions/suggestions I had received from others and I think it helped. Fingers crossed you don't have a stay at home order. I'll be thinking of you!

MIL turned 86 last week. She's doing well. Slipped on the stairs, going fast and trying to do one foot per step. I can't remember the last time she was able to come down one foot per step. Anyhow, she did get a small bruise on her leg, not too bad - I think it was earned and not necessarily a result of the cumadin... I heard the thunk in my office with the door closed. She is ok.

I also took off Friday. Got some running around done, rested, read a book, had the roomba/brava clean the floors and turned my phone off again...hahaha. Then we had Rhea on Saturday for her first overnight away from Mommy and Daddy. She was great with us. Went down easy, Papa stuck his head in to check on her (even with a video monitor), she roused and then he had to lay down with her for an hour in the middle of the night. She woke up sitting on the bed, I wake up Papa!! We had a great time. We were exhausted when her parents took her home about 3 on Sunday. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So yesterday was supposed to be an office day, but it ended up being a commute to a few communities day since we had some surprise new hires that needed to be set up on phones and ipads. Our office fiber internet line also got cut by the construction team working across the street, so caused everyone offsite to have zero access to the main office. Fortunately, I did not allow the internet company to pull my old coax line when we installed fiber, so we had a back up line there...whew! (yes, I also handle the company internet). Anyhow, lots of phone calls and what not. Exhausted at the end of the day. So I went out in the back and read for about 2 hours. It was almost 8pm, but the weather was gorgeous and there was a great little breeze going so I took my big tush and walked the .5 miles around the block. Didn't close any rings, but it sure felt good to get out. We hit 99 today so it is warm out. Hoping to get out again tonight. And with my schedule I'm heading back into the office tomorrow. Looking forward to that.

Yay, finally a reduction. It's hard to believe that less than a pound could affect my BP so much, but today my trainer told me I've likely added muscle and lost more fat than I realize. She's going to measure body fat again next week to see if it's down from when we first started back. I'm feeling much better yesterday and today. I decreased my BP med, and I might decrease again tonight because I still feel light-headed when I stand up. I'm so sensitive to medications of any kind, but my doctor insists I must keep BP under control because my father and mother both had issues, and my father had 2 heart attacks and 2 strokes. Thanks for your thoughts.

Sarah, it's good to see you back on the board, and congratulations on maintaining. That's very difficult when eating out and not moving as much, so that's a win. And getting your 10K three times is great. I wish I didn't just fall off the wagon completely when I go out of town, lol. I'm glad you were able to see your sister and give her encouragement to move a bit. I'm sure she was happy to see you and spend time. I wish I could find a way to encourage my sister more also. She is very resistant, and does no exercise at all. It's a vicious cycle when you don't move, and then don't feel well enough to move, and then you don't move. . . etc. Like you, I'm determined to not do that.

Kelly, wow, I'm so sorry about your province getting slammed again with Covid. Very frustrating, and it must be so hard on the kids. Hopefully the government will get those vaccines rolled out quicker. . Glad you and Shawn got that first shot into your arms. Forgive me if I forgot, but did your Dad get his? I'll be sending you healthy, positive vibes. I want my daughter in Oregon to get her oldest vaccinated, but she won't be 12 until July. We chatted today and she says she's nervous about it because she's very small and thin for her age, and she'll be barely 12. Maybe Sarah can answer this better, but I don't think it matters, although I did see that they're stepping down the dosage in the younger than 12 ages (when it's approved for them) so maybe it's a concern.

Lois, wow, your MIL is 86. Good for her. Hubby's and my parents didn't make it that far, and his mother died at 69 . . it's kinda freaking me out now that I'll be 69 this year!! :# Sorry about her fall, but it could have been worse. You are so lucky to get weekends with Rhea! Post some more pics of her if you can . . I'll bet she has changed so much. It was good to read you got out for an evening walk. . . maybe evening walks will help with the doldrums.

    Take care ladies.

I'm not surprised. Haven't been eating super awesome the past week. Had a lot more "cheat" meals than I should have. Also I haven't been getting in much exercise. Work has been busy, so I have been stuck at the desk and on my days off I have been painting and helping with the basement, plus household chores.. you know how it goes. I basically just haven't made it a priority. I will get back there though.

The basement is coming along. Shawn finished the ceiling in the main living room area. (see pic) We decided to use drywall and baseboard trim instead of the regular drop ceiling and we LOVE it! It's probably the same amount of work but it's way cheaper and looks so much less office like.fqahmkgbnrpy.jpg
Today he is working on the flooring and once he gets that done in the main area, we can set up our gym equipment! We just recently bought some new Bowflex adjustable weights as our older ones were broken and unfixable, plus they were a cheap crappy brand and not easy to use. Excited to get that all set up and then it'll make it much easier to make exercising a priority. Once the main room is done, he still has the bedroom to finish the ceiling in, flooring and the bathroom to do the flooring, vanity, toilet, accessories. The shower is already done and the painting. So it's almost there!

Sarah - Glad to hear you had a good trip, minus the expense! Must be sooo nice to see family!!

Lois - It sounds like you've found a way out of your funk. Glad to hear! Maybe the day off work is exactly what you needed just to get some things off your To Do list done!

Sheesh - So glad to hear that you have managed to get your BP back to somewhat normal. Congrats on your reduction too!

Kelly, I love the ceiling! Shawn is good at his work. . you're so lucky. You're really going to enjoy that room, and all the extra space in your basement. I'm excited for you.

I'm feeling so much better now, and I'm proud that I've got a long exercise streak going on. I've been logging all my food too. Sometimes I don't want to because it might be something like "4 vanilla sandwich cookies", but I just log it and then deal with it and think "lesson learned". I'm not sure what has switched with me (possible end of Covid in sight?), but I'm finally feeling pretty motivated.

Memorial Day weekend is coming up, and we'll be spending it at our cabin with daughter here and her hubby. Send positive thoughts and ideas for staying on track with intake, lol!

I hope you're all having a great weekend. It's pretty windy and cool here today, so I guess it's the old treadmill again for me. I wish I'd gotten it done earlier, but I had a long phone call with my daughter in Oregon regarding her remodel. . sinks, faucets, lighting, hardware, etc. Funny thing is my son in Cali is also going to start a remodel soon, and has been in communication a lot too. I think it's a compliment that they want my input and help. And, it's free for them, lol!

Sheesh, the kids are smart to tap your design expertise for those nice low rates! LOL And you actually helped me with one issue, too, a few years ago. (It was buying a new rug for the living room, and we ended up having a border added to some high grade wool carpeting.)

It hit me over the weekend that two things are causing me issues that will result in weight gain if I'm not careful. One is that I seem to be having days when I have zero energy. I do not really know why this is, but I do have a follow-up coming up in a few weeks about my thyroid levels being off. Perhaps that's it. The other is that when the pool opens, a chunk of my weekend days are spent at the pool with neighbors, and although I swim some, it's not much of a workout. We tend to walk and bob and talk! And then we come home and watch a ballgame. And that's 3 hours of sedentary time. I just can't afford that! So I am going to have to make a real effort to walk in the mornings on weekends and then again at night to get my 10K steps (or more if I can), and I'm also going to watch the game sometimes while on the treadmill, although I hate that. The TV in the basement is pretty small and this is not a walkout and so it's not as cheery down there.

But mentioning basements, I also love that ceiling Kelly. I did not know that Shawn was so talented with carpentry. You are very lucky. We also decided to do a drywall ceiling rather than the "officy looking" drop ceiling when we did our basement a few years ago. But it's just flat. I really like the design with the wood.

Well, back to work. I was taking a very quick break to log lunch, when I saw a new post!

I'm not exactly sure how I achieved that but I guess I was a bit more active this week because of helping in the basement lots and I was making better-ish food choices. I also think my weigh in numbers are reflective of what I eat for supper the night before. If I have a higher salt intake, my numbers are higher. I had zucchini noodles with a chicken breast and pasta sauce last night.. but I also had a creamsicle for dessert. Delish.

Just a quick check in as I'm busy with work today.
I'll post again later when I have a few mins.
