We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)

Today's Topic: Grocery Shopping
Who does it? How often? Do you plan it or wing it?

I do most of the shopping, since I'm retired and my wife is still working. Also, she hates it and I don't really mind it that much.
I tend to wing it and go quite often. I really hate a refrigerator that is stuffed with food, as I feel it is quite wasteful, with things getting lost and spoiled. I try to match up items in the frigde and pantry with whatever additional items I need to make a meal. So, if I have sausages, I'll go and get corn and buns or something to complement it. The freezer needs some work now, so I'm trying to use that up as well. Stuff tends to go in there and never come out.
I'll hit Cosco about once a week when I need gas. Then as long as I'm saving money, I'll go ahead and buy a bunch of crapola I don't need.0 -
I do the grocery shopping. I like to have input into what we buy, and since my wife and I seem to have different styles when shopping, I prefer to do it myself.
We’re a list family. There’s a paper list attached to the fridge with a magnet; when we conclude we need something, it goes on the list. Once a week (generally a Wednesday or Thursday) I take the list and go forage. I’ll try to buy what’s on the list, but I also walk the full grocery store to see if there are things that didn’t make it onto the list that I know we need. The challenge is that we buy what we know we need, and sometimes it’s just “we haven’t got anything I want to eat” in the evening.
We do BJ's Wholesale Club, generally once a month or so. That three case of water, six boxes of Healthy Choice fudgsicles, some hard boiled eggs, 93% FF ground beef, Chex Mix, omeprazole, toilet paper, napkins, Kleenex - lots of things.
Every three months or so it’s a trip to the butcher shop for chicken, hamburgers, and whatever else catches our eye. That all mostly goes into the freezer.0 -
We both go. I have an Excel spead (2 pages) which is layed out to follow the aisles at the Londonderry Market Basket. We put stuff on a white board all week, then transfer it to the Excel list, adding what frozen vegetables, and fruits (both fresh and frozen) we need, and anything from the flyer we might be interested in.
I also hit Shaws for sale items, and less often Hannaford.
We stick to the list, for the most. There are occasional things we'll see and decide to get.
Been doing this for years, even before Covid.0 -
I usually do it. DW makes the list.0

I grocery shop weekly. Occasionally, I will go to the store during the week - but rarely. I meal prep components. So, most everything is ready for when I get home.0

We both used to go in the store together. Since Covid I drive stay in the car and DW shops. She does most of the shopping and cooking. I then come in after dinner or sometimes as she cooks and clean up as we go. She works hard to prepare the meals so It's just a routine we've just fallen into and seems to work for both of us. We're list people if we can find the list after we've made it 'lol'.0
