A neat trick when you're shopping

Good morning everyone. Another month of out of control eating, weight gain and sugar highs and lows.
But, I belong to a diabetes support group here in Ottawa, Ontario. We're going virtual right now so we still get to 'meet' once a month.
Last month, we were talking about losing control and how to avoid those junk food aisles at the grocery stores.
One of our members has one of those glucose monitors that you stick to your arm and check with an app on your phone, or a reader (I'm not really sure about that).
So, when he's out doing his groceries, he brings his monitor with him. If he finds himself in the junk food aisle, he checks his blood sugar. If it's within range, he congratulates himself and moves on. If it's out of range, too high, he leaves the aisle and heads back to the veggie aisles.
He said it has helped him immensely from succumbing to those cravings.

I usually do all my grocery shopping at Farmboy and only stay of the veggie side. I head to a regular grocery store when I need cleaning supplies, or as I call them, non-edibles. But, I still get sucked into the junk food aisle when I'm there and it's very hard to resist lately.

Does anyone else have any useful tips for the grocery store?

I pretty much know what I need and make a surgical strike. I don't really shop so much as "procure." I know when my wife goes with me, she is impressed with the efficiency. I do peruse the meats, but mostly it is items on the list and in/out. I have to say the "junk" does not have the appeal, although I dearly loved (too much) jelly beans and apple fritters back before my diagnosis.

My kryptonite is nuts, so I make sure I only get them when the menu can accommodate them.

Well, I must admit I am a junk food junkie. And I love jujubes and chips. I did pretty good today. I stuck to my list with one exception. I bought a jar of dill pickles. When I got home, I was feeling rather sweaty. Checked my sugars and they were 3.9(Canadian). Must remember to eat before shopping.

I am relatively new to being diabetic. But I have other food issues. Allergies, etc.

My trick for years is to look at something I am craving and remind myself it’s poison to me. It really really helps.
