Yay! 1lb down. And down and down I go! I am super proud of myself as I have been making great choices with my food (minus a few drinks on the weekend) and I got on the treadmill yesterday for day 1 of the couch to 5k app.

Just a quick check in. I'll check back later for posts to read.

Well it's up but not up to the 135 I feared after eating differently and not getting many walking miles in. But I think sometimes the things that burn the most calories for me are not things like walking or swimming, etc., but lugging the vacuum cleaner up and down the steps and damp mopping those darned wood floors that are supposed to be low maintenance but are really not. And I did a lot of the "getting ready for guest" cleaning before Sue arrived. It probably saved me!

Kelly seeing your loss inspires me. Congratulations! Doesn't it feel great to see some good outcomes for your efforts? I bet mowing the grass and helping with that shed burned up a half a pound! Our sitting at a desk or in a car does make it challenge to not gain or to lose. I think past generations could eat more because they moved more just in normal life, and of course, they ate less processed food than we do.

Lois, it's so nice that you're getting Rhea time and time with the family. Enjoy the pool. And I could not walk very far in AZ heat, either. As I am getting older, the heat really gets me. Especially the high humidity heat we get hit with here on the east coast.

Sheesh, I will need to look back to see when your travel starts. I'm so happy for you, but will really miss you if you find it too hard to log in and post from out there. I ran into that last time when we were in NC. When I was working full time, I'd take my laptop and log in at least once a day to check work e-mail, so I'd check in then. But since I'm working part-time, I didn't do that this last trip.

And mentioning work--I've had a little bump in the road that I'll be back to fill you in on. Nothing major. Just something eating my lunch a bit. :/

OK. Well my scale's batteries are flickering so I wasn't sure if it captured or not but this is what is showing in my 7 day. I have had lower days and a higher day. I expected today to be a gooder day (I've been making good choices). Yesterday when I met my gf for dinner, we always go to this healthier place (Mediterranean hummus veggies etc) and I picked at the food (Actually brought home most of it). Anyhow yesterday I drank so so so much water and somehow could not quite quench my thirst and I felt, and feel, puffy as tho I'm still retaining water. So I'm continuing with the water and adding a pedialyte just in case I need some electrolytes to flush this stuff out.

Kelly - AWESOME JOB!! Super proud of you! Stay focused.

Sarah - That's an incredible number since you were entertaining for several days (not just one dinner). Kudos to you for making smarter choices throughout your friend's visit.

Sheesh - I think you're still at home but trainer and GK zoom times.

Well summer is in full swing here in AZ. 115 yesterday and 113 today. Last night, as I was leaving the restaurant, we got hit with one of our summer storms. Crazy *kitten* gusty winds blowing debris everywhere and large raindrops. We need the rain so I won't complain. Driving home on the freeway, I was being pelted with small branches/twigs from nearby open desert and the trees. We don't usually have these storms until July, but surprise! So after changing my clothes it was clean up time. My yard was and is a MESS. I had cushions, pillows, noodles, towels, toys everywhere. MIL said she was happy I when I came home. She said the sounds frightened her a little. We didn't really have too many monsoon experiences last year.

Hubby cleaned the pool filters last night so the pool is clear. My plan for today is to hit the TM again and see how far I can get and then possibly a swim after. My upper body is still a bit sore and I want to work it out but not overdo it. I've got a busy workday, but plans to fulfil after my 5pm sign off ...

I did well last week, but the weekend was at the cabin and not as strict.

Kelly, WOW! I'm so impressed with you. You've really found your groove and have it going for you. Keep up with your awesomeness. Happy for you being able to see your parents, and that your province is doing much better. Sounds like it will be a good summer.

Lois, great job with the movement . . keep after it. I love muscle soreness, as long as it's about a 4 on the 1 - 10 scale. My trainer always texts me the day after to check that . . she doesn't want me above a 4 or 5. It's not good when you feel like you can't move, but everything less than that is good. . you're getting stronger. I was giggling over your Rhea cheesecake story. . kids crack me up.

Sarah, I'm so glad you enjoyed your friend's visit, and you managed your weight so well. Great job. Hope your job isn't getting too harried.

Well, I have some bad news. First, my daughter here (pregnant) found out she was exposed to Covid last week. No worries, the text (the first one - she's going to do another) came back negative. We were so upset because her company decided to have a conference in Park City, but required everyone to be vaccinated. She and another pregnant woman were exempted because they want to wait until the 3rd trimester to get the vaccine. (Her doctor agrees with this.) Everyone else was supposed to be fully vaccinated, and nobody told her about any other exceptions. THEN, she gets an email that her co-worker had to be tested before returning to Hawaii (that state requires it) and she tested positive! Turns out this woman is an anti-vaccer. My daughter wore a mask, and so did this woman, but they ate without masks and she sat down right next to my daughter. Also, she was on daughter's team, and helped with a presentation without a mask. OMG. We are all so angry! She and her hubby and step daughter had to get tested Monday. They were negative.

THEN, over the weekend her 9 year old step-daughter was really sick, sleeping a lot, vomiting, etc. On Monday her dad took her to the doctor. They wanted to send her home saying it was just a stomach virus, but he had a bad feeling and insisted on a blood test. Her blood sugar came back over 400!! He rushed her to Primary Children's Hospital (the best here, but really far from their home), and they admitted her. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. :'( They've been there since Monday night. She's at normal levels now, and they may be able to come home tonight or more likely tomorrow. He's been right by her side all the time, and he's exhausted. They're all going to have to go through educational classes and learn to deal with this challenge. Wow. We've had a rough week.

My trainer is on vacation in Mexico this week. I managed a brisk walk yesterday, and a good workout today, but I Monday my only workout was stress and worry. My daughter is going to get another Covid test Monday or Tuesday again. The last day she saw that Hawaii idiot was last Thursday. Please say a prayer . .

P.S. The wedding photos are in a zip file and my poor daughter says there are 1,000 or more. She's trying to find time to edit through them before she sends some to me for printing and posting, so we're very delayed with everything else going on.

Forgot to mention that our trip is June 24 through July 2. I'm excited to get away. Our oldest granddaughter will turn 12 while we're there, so we get to attend her party! I got her an outfit, but am lost as to toy or game ideas . . if you ladies have any, please share.

Sheesh, OMG, I don't blame you for being mad about the anti-vaxxer woman. She probably thought because she felt okay . . . But you can spread COVID 48 hours before you test positive and bottom line, some people with COVID never have symptoms, and we estimate that about half of cases are from asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic folks. I hope your daughter's test results are negative. Sending prayers and good wishes. And then top it off, finding out about the little one's diabetes. So much to handle at once. I hope all goes well with her, too, and I'm so glad that the doc didn't send her home with the stomach bug diagnosis. And congrats on that almost one pound loss. I know how hard that is to achieve.

Lois, congratulations on making the 5K despite heat, work, etc. Sounds like you are getting back in your groove. Keep it up and keep reporting back. You'll inspire all of us.

Kelly, you are the mover/shaker now. Did you feel me thinking about you while I was trudging up that hill last night? :D

Have to run to yet another meeting, but will pop back in soon to tell you about the job issue. It's okay. I'm not quitting or getting fired!

Sheesh - I'm so sorry for everything you're going through! I can imagine your stress levels are high at the moment. Hopefully your grand daughter has been able to come home. I'm sure it will be a long road in adjusting to new life with all the ins and outs of injections and food monitoring. Thoughts for your daughter as well! Although I know this world if full of them, I can't believe some people are so selfish. Get the vaccine to help others, even if you don't 'believe' it'll do anything for yourself. Anti-vaxxers frustrate the heck out of me. It's different if you can't get it because of underlying conditions or allergies or what not, but when it's your choice, that's brutal. I saw a post on Facebook yesterday that I really liked. It said:

"Newsflash: No one is "forcing" you to be vaccinated. Honestly, we just hoped you were smart enough to do it. BUT if you choose NOT to be vaccinated, accept that you are not entitled to the privileges of those who choose to do so. It is not your "right". Freedom to choose comes with consequences."

Hit the nail on the head there.

Lois - Fantastic job with the activity!! So hard, so tired, but I bet you felt proud of yourself when you were done!

Sarah - haha I'm a mover & shaker. Although I am moving a bit more, it's honestly mostly just paying attention to what I'm eating. I'm still getting around 1400 calories of food a day, but I'm making sure they aren't all carbs. Simple enough. I'm glad I'm providing some motivation to you though! I think my way of eating is also helping my hubby out too. He sees that I'm having a salad or something without bread and then he wants to have that too... and sometimes, so do the kids! While I love bread, pasta, starchy foods, I find that they just really drag me down and exhaust me after I eat them. I'd rather get my carbs from vegetables.

Kelly--yes, isn't if funny how we want carbs and sweets so much, but then we they make us feel like crap, and yet we soon want them again. Hubby bought some of the Costco bakery cookies, I went days without even wanting one and then had to fast for an appointment and grabbed two when I got in the door. What was I thinking? Now I have sugar headache. And the phlebotomist (sp?) was not available today, and that was a last minute issue, so now I have to fast again on Monday and go back in for a blood draw. I am going to make sure that I have some lunch available that is nutritious for when I get back.

I had an odd thing happen last night and this morning. I just got very sick and weak. It passed fairly quickly both times, but the doc wanted to do an EKG in case. Women have different heart symptoms. But two of those were perfectly fine, my blood pressure was 126/70 and I don't take BP medicine, my pulse rate was fine, too. So she's doing some extra blood work in addition to the usual. But she suspects that everything will be okay. She thinks it might the two Aleve I took on an empty stomach, although I've done that before with no problem. I don't take a pain reliever often, but had muscle soreness yesterday from my speed walk and grabbed two as I head out the door last night.

And now I'll tell you about my job. My issue has been with my team lead. I think I have told you that speaking causes her pain, so we communicate only in writing. But she has been taking a new treatment and decided last week to have 1-on-1 meetings with the three people on our team where she would speak. I went first so we could go over things from the week she was out and I handled extra tasks.

Nothing she said was bad. She questioned a couple things I had triaged, but when I explained my reasoning, she said, "Oh, I can see that." But the thing that got me was her tone of voice. Even though she doesn't talk often, she has a very pleasant voice, but as the call went on her tone became almost angry. I asked her if anything was wrong and she gave me a very circular answer and just keep saying, "Your work is excellent, and you are so pleasant and willing and flexible." Well when someone keeps saying those kinds of things, my thought is that there's "a but" at the end that is not being said. I let it go, but then noticed the next couple of work days that she was still "off." For example, I asked her a question about handling an offer to send us some translations of our materials, and she told me to put them into translation. I thought she had read the person's correspondence too quickly, so I replied and said, "this is not a translation request, but an offer to provide us the translation." And she sent me what I thought was a snarky email that said, "I know that." (Well if you do, why am I putting it into translation?)

And there were a few other barbs along the way. So finally, I called her on it. I sent an email and said we need to have another conversation. And we did. And she said her bad mood and tone has to do with her frustrations with herself and her own situation (has to be out a lot, doesn't have time to work individually with her staff, etc.) and not intended toward me.

So I guess we're okay, but it left me a little shook. She also mentioned that she knows I "don't have to work." Well, I always work like that's where my next meal is coming from, and whether I have to work or not has no bearing on anything. I'm always available if needed and I'm always flexible. So I told her that was hurtful and that I wanted to make she knows that I've always put a high priority on my work, and that I've been working since I was 13.

I don't know if all of this is good or bad. She really is an exceedingly smart woman and a good team lead. But I couldn't work with that tone in either speech or writing. Sometimes I think it's bad--that she now feels defensive. Sometimes I think it's good because she knows I may be very pleasant and accommodating, but I will not let anyone run over me.

Anyhow, the week was stressful workwise, but we had nice weather and the Nats are finally winning some games!

My friend from Cali told me the temperature was 117 when she got back there on Tuesday. Lois, I hope you are not experiencing such extremes. Sheesh, I hope your granddaughter is home and the test results came back negative for your daughter. And Kelly now I will think of your when I reach for something that is all carbs. And that will help.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts for my daughter and granddaughter. Granddaughter is home as of Thursday, and her attitude is really great. In fact, whenever she wants something from her parents, she adds in a weak raspy voice "I got the diaaa-bee-teees, ya know" and laughs. She has a great sense of humor. My daughter sent me a video of them "playing doctor" together where she was giving her stuffed doll "Olaf" a shot of insulin. So cute. My daughter says they are all learning and adjusting, and that the eating is healthy for their whole family, so they're going to just eat the same. She is using the insulin pens, so the shots are easy, but the finger pricking is the worst part. It's more difficult with shared custody. Her mother says she is "overwhelmed". She has a habit of making everything about her, so that's not surprising or very reassuring. My daughter has a great attitude. Her first Covid test was negative, as was her hubby's and their daughter's. They wore good PPE at the hospital and weren't near any Covid patients. My daughter is going to be re-tested on Monday just to be sure. She's really wanting to get vaccinated, and is only waiting for baby to grow a bit more. And, she can feel baby kicking :) And, by the way, the CEO of her company announced that everyone must be vaccinated to work there. I wonder what anti-vaxxer lady will do?

Lois, congratulations on that 5K! The last one I did was in my cool, and air conditioned basement on the treadmill, lol. I'm not as tough as you are! It's very hot here, and I know it's even hotter where you are. I've been thinking about your heat with the temps here so high. Hope you're okay . . maybe walking in the early morning ?

Sarah, I'm sorry you're dealing with someone I would describe as somewhat mentally abusive at work. She sounds like one of those people who is upset at her own life and hasn't learned that it's not okay to look around for someone to lash out at mentally and emotionally because of her own frustrations. They usually are bosses or someone with authority who knows it would be difficult for the people they're targeting to push back, so I'm glad you did! She needs to know you're not her punching bag. She was probably always like this, but her tone and abuse wasn't coming through with writing only.

I hope you're feeling better after those weird episodes. It was smart for your doctor to check your heart, and to get some further tests. These days I'm thinking a lot more about blood sugar levels, so maybe your were in a low blood sugar episode? Taking medication or supplements on an empty stomach always gets to me, so maybe that was all it was.

Kelly, speaking of blood sugar, the low carb eating is exactly what we all need. Sugar is difficult to manage metabolically. And, I think it's addictive for some reason, probably because it gives us a boost of the "happy, energetic" hormones. Learning about diabetes, I see that we all need to take care of our pancreas and insulin levels. So much can go awry. Of course, Type 1 is not due to diet. But, we all can develop Type 2 or insulin resistance. So, congratulations on doing a healthy diet for yourself and your family. You've inspired me also.

And, Happy Juneteenth, and Father's Day on Sunday. We're gong to the cabin with daughter and SIL . . . hoping for cooler temps there. Looks like the 80's even in the mountains.

Oh Sarah - so sorry for your work issues. Sadly that is not uncommon. and the comment about not needing to work...hell, I'll take someone who "doesn't need to work" to work on my team any day of the week. They WANT to be there. Sorry, but I was one of those who "didn't need to work" to make ends meet, but I WANTED more so I did work. I consider myself an extremely hard work and loyal. Give it time, it may all smooth out. And scary with the episodes - glad not your heart. But it could have been the Aleve or even, as Sheesh mentioned, blood sugar levels. Glad you're getting it checked out.

Sheesh - happy news about the negative testing. Our office has that if you're not tested, you must mask up. There are a couple who have not yet vaccinated and if they attempt to wander the office, they've been called out and instructed to mask up. Everyone knows who is not vaccinated, so they do not wander without a mask. It sounds like your daughter is handling her new daughter's situation very well. Hopefully the birth mom will get on board and not make it challenging or dangerous for her daughter. Your cabin sounds niiiiccceeee. We've been over 112 most days, but anything over 110 who cares...we're really not going outside. My 5k was done in the AC upstairs, on my TM watching a Peloton class...lol.

Right now, all I do outside is float in the pool...lol. Like you gals in the winter, in the summer we're mainly inside unless the pool is involved. My bbq needs repair or replacement (working out the cost variables for that decision). However, not in a huge rush as I'm not anxious to be outside grilling right now. LOL. I even covered my chair in the back patio area where I was going out to read. When you open a door to go outside, it literally feels the same as opening your oven door. So my Starbucks run in the early AM, heading out to the office or the pool is about my only exposure to outside right now.

I've not been the best at food selections...too heavy on take out. I did do a meal prep yesterday. I've got my zucchini mix, some tri tip that I just finished in the sous vide, sweet potatoes and rice (chicken for mom and hubby)..and corn on the cob. Oh and my cucumber and tomato to make my other chickpea salad, but it doesn't hold well, so it has to be made daily. Hoping I can do better this week. Tomorrow is a field day, so that means I'm at sales offices all day, so it will be take out at one of my locations.

Have a great week everyone. I better get back to work.

Lois, I am end of another work day, and because I'm a little leery of my team lead now and hesitate to ask questions, it's making things a little tougher. So it was nice to log on and see your post. The empathy and the comments were much appreciated. :)

We can't begin to compete with you on summer temps, but today has been a scorcher (high 90s with high humidity) and we're just at the end of a storm that took out the power for a short time. It's still dark as night out there. Not sure what that bodes for evening activity. My walking buddy is teaching a class at night this week, so I think a daytime walk on one of my days off may be our only chance to walk together. That's when I seem to walk the longest and the fastest. Last night I did my hilly outside walk with a small abbreviation, but my heart was not in it. I felt like I was slogging. It's like that sometimes. :(

Sarah - Ugh, sorry if I sound harsh, but I honestly dislike people sometimes. Why do people have to be so rude and confrontational when they just have their own personal stuff going on internally? So sorry to hear that you not only have a coworker that's like that, but that it's your team lead. You should be able to go to your team lead with questions and concerns and to ask for assistance without being treated that way. You did the right thing having a discussion with her about it for sure, otherwise it would have totally eaten you up inside and she would have thought she wasn't doing anything wrong. Maybe now she'll think twice before speaking to you that way. I suppose if it gets really bad, you could discuss it with someone higher? If that's an option.
I was just talking with our kid's Mom and she is going through the EXACT same thing. Her team lead speaks to her so condescending, is short with her and makes her feel like she's not doing a great job (when she is), but it's all online because the team lead works in another province. She has brought it up to her and how it's making her feel but the woman is just like that and doesn't feel like she's doing anything wrong. She basically just turns it back on Jodi and says it's her own problem and just doesn't want to be held accountable. Unfortunately it has caused Jodi to seriously think and look into taking another position elsewhere. I hope she doesn't resort to that, but she has to be happy first.
Any word on those test results for how you've been feeling? I agree with Sheesh that I'm thinking it was either blood sugar related or

Sheesh - That's great that your daughter (and her family) tests have come back negative. Hopefully the one yesterday was negative as well. Also it's awesome to hear that your grand daughter is in high spirits. That's cute with the playing doctor. Hopefully her Mom gets on board and starts being more positive instead of overwhelmed. You wouldn't want those feeling projected or felt by your grand daughter.

Lois - I can't wait to float around our little pool. We had some really hot temps over the past couple of weeks and then all of a sudden, over the past handful of days, it's been close to freezing temps! What the heck. It was 2ºC (or 35.6ºF) over night 2 nights ago and tomorrow it's supposed to be 32ºC (or 89.6ºF)! Like how does that even happen lol It's actually really not that surprising for our province, but it's still a shock every time.
