Exercise? Not quite.
Track? Yep.
Calories? Not even close.
We had a second bike stolen last night. Can't even be mad about it as it was the one I'd wished they'd taken the last time and it still wasn't locked up. I came home from walking the dog just about 10ish last night and it was still there. At 5:30 this morning, it wasn't. I'd been trying to give it away, and now I have. Sort of. Maybe I am a little mad. People suck sometimes. My bike has now taken up residence in the apartment. There's really no room for it, but I just don't trust anybody or any lock completely anymore. Right now it's in the dining area and will have to be moved outside if we have guests. I have been staring around my bedroom and the little hallway that leads to it, trying to figure out if I can rearrange furniture in my room or if the bike will fit along the wall in the hall. I think my room is the best bet right now. But I'll have to see what I can do, because well, it's just not that big. And, Ais has told me she doesn't want me to get another bike for her. She wasn't enjoying it and pedaling hurt her knee. So, now we're talking about walks at night at least a couple of nights a week, either at the park (after dark) or on the Loop (while there's still light, or on the weekends).
Challenge foods? Sweets, especially chocolate, warm bread, and pizza. How do I deal with it? Not very well. I rarely have any sweets in the house. I only eat pizza at one restaurant where they make a cauliflower crust pizza that isn't awful. And I get relatively healthy toppings (anchovies, mushrooms, onions, spinach, and artichoke hearts). I will generally eat the whole thing but I try to keep the rest of the days calories low. We eat out. A lot. Far more than we should. Thankfully, they only serve bread at certain restaurants. And, quite honestly, I do not control myself well when we are at those restaurants. Something I need to work on.7 -

- Are you challenged by any particular foods? Fig Newtons! I have no self-control with them. Everything else I feel like I am able to fit into my calorie allotment. The other thing I have to be careful about is eating out at restaurants or ordering in food because you have to estimate calories and you can be wildly off.
- And, do you have any methods that you find help you to deal better with them? I just don't buy Fig Newtons. Nope, can't keep them in the apartment. As for eating out, I just try to check if I am actually still hungry and watch the size portion I am eating.8 -

Day 4 no grazing!

@seilidhe - even though you wanted to get rid of the bike, it still makes me mad someone stole it. What is the matter with people? To store your bike inside, look into something so you can hang it from the ceiling or on a wall. That way it won’t take up precious floor space. It doesn’t have to be expensive, a couple big hooks from the hardware store will do.2

@biketheworld Gamifying positive habit forming works for a lot of people. Glad it's clicking for you!
@mshawski Best of health to your whole family
@ashleycarole86 I think we can all agree @_JeffreyD_ is a pleasant joker
@MadisonMolly2017 "Triple Threat" is a great way to think about it.
@jamcnewman When you unlock the protein secret, please let your fellow Canadian know: I've been at this for a few months now
@seilidhe Grrr! Sorry about the bike
@donna25trinity Thanks for yesterday's compliment and here's one for you today ➡️ Yay for not grazing. That takes self-control!
For me, there's no forbidden foods. However I generally have to "work for" my favored high calorie options (like sweet snacks, savory sushi, etc). That means I'll literally 🏃🏾♀️ to the bakery or restaurant in order to get the item(s). Extras go in the freezer or portioned out.
A few years back, a local cafe's 4"x4" deep fudge iced brownie was my all-time favorite thing. I committed to hacking the recipe so that if I had a craving, I'd have to bake it myself. And, if my hack didn't come close to the original, I threw out the batch. Never quite got it. And the brownie's not something I particularly crave anymore 🤷🏾♀️

@Chinkiri - I hope you’re feeling better. You have been missed. Enjoy your time with your mom.
@seilidhe - you may try a simple pulley system and then it can go a little higher up the wall. I don’t think they are very expensive. I’m tired of moving my bike so I’m going to look into one. YouTube has great videos on it. My bike is a bit too heavy to lift up on and off hooks so I have to improvise.
Challenging foods - restaurants. Pre COVID we ate out our had take out at least 5 nights a week. Working long hours, kids, illness - I was just too tired. I actually like cooking but despise clean up. I now limit eating out and/or take out to 1 time every 2 weeks. So about 2 times a month. In order to solve my clean up aversion, I cook a meal one night with enough left overs to turn into a separate meal the next night. Sometimes I can even stretch it into a third night. It’s amazing how many things you can do with cooked chicken so it’s different each night.
Monday, August 16
The day had its own plans and didn’t even take mine into consideration. I didn’t plan for contingencies. I did not have snacks in my bag. I must have eaten the missing snacks on another … day. I ate what I could find. Snacks are now in my bag.

Coming back to answer the trigger foods question. The peanut butter is now kept in my husbands office. I have to ask him to get me reasonable amounts of peanut butter when I actually need it for something. LOL. I can't be trusted, and it's too popular with hubs and kiddo to not have in the house.
It's kind of a good exercise for Hubs too as he's VERY bad at telling me no about anything, so this will help him build on that skillset 😂
I often think I eat more peanut butter than makes sense from a sweets craving and wonder if it's a vitamin thing. 🤔 I started taking prenatal vitamins again for the iron and all the other fun stuff I tend to miss out on not eating meat, so I'm curious if that helps out with the PB cravings.
On that note, does anyone know of a tool/app where you can put in random foods you constantly crave and it can tell you what vitamins they have in common?7 -

Yes x 3, hiking w dog and friend
The food I can't have around is ice cream. It always start with, oh I'll just have a couple bites, oh, maybe a small dish, oh another bite, and so on until I'm sick in the stomach.
So I just don't have it in the house. On the rare occasional that I have left over calories, I'll walk to the store and buy a small one, so I can eat it all and not stress.7 -
Yes x3.
It was a good day yesterday. Different mind set and a good out come.7 -

That's an idea. I'll look into both the hooks and the pulley system. The mgr of the complex suggested I remove the front wheel and hang the bike in the little storage closet on the private balcony. Only problem with that idea is that it's stacked high with other stuff I couldn't (or didn't want to) get into the apartment itself. Stuff I actually use periodically, so I don't want to get rid of it. Oh and the balcony also has two chairs and Sienna's bed on it, and those things all have to be moved around every time I need to get something out of that closet. The mgr also said "they" had recently discussed making it against the rules to have your bikes locked on the balconies or "porches" (for lack of a better word), because they aren't "patio furniture or decor." If storing a single bike inside a two bedroom apartment (about 890 sq ft) with 2 people and a dog living in it is going to be ridiculously tight, can you imagine storing more than one bike? Or one or more bikes in 450-650 sq ft apartments with one or more people living there? I just don't think that's a fair option to anybody who lives in any of the apartments.4 -

Hi @mshawski - I just google (and don’t know of an app). Found this for you:

@seilidhe - I have heard of those rules. Things need to change. Patio furniture is great but encourages sitting. It’s like promoting anti-activity. I like the pulley system because you can pull it up and push it over a dresser or something.1

Thanks @jamcnewman! This really sums it up. LOL.
"Anecdotal evidence also indicates that beta-sitosterol helps reduce feelings of anxiety, possibly by stabilizing cortisol, a hormone released during times of stress. Stress has also been shown in animal studies, to trigger cravings of high-fat foods. You might find yourself reaching for a jar of peanut butter if you’re feeling anxious, stressed out, or depressed, in an attempt to reduce those feelings."3 -
