@fossil9078 I ate out today and had to guesstimate as well. Since I don’t eat out too often I don’t worry about it. Knowing I’m going to try to track it helps me be more mindful of what I choose to eat in those situations. In fact, you might think I’m crazy but sometimes if I know I’m going to get a grilled chicken sandwich or a black bean burger, I often take an 80 calorie bun in a ziploc with me to switch out buns. Some buns may be several hundred calories and, to me, it’s just not worth the calorie count. Unless occasionally the buns are specially made in house. Then I might splurge on the bun. I’ve been at maintenance for a year and little tweaks like that help me.9 -
Exercise 👍🏻 (50 minutes quick walking on treadmill)
Calories 👍🏻 (Well under and kitchen is closed)
Tracking 👍🏻 (Everything. Absolutely everything)
A good day today. My ninth on MFP and I have tracked every day. I love reading all your posts and find the community makes this easier and better. Thank you! 🥰5 -
2 YES day. Tracked and got a 30 minute walk in, but went over on calories. When hubby makes a yummy dinner, it’s hard to resist. Pass Day #15

Only achieved 2 out of 3:
[v] Exercised more than 20 minutes - Done 47 mins of exercise today
[ ] Within calorie budget - slightly over
[v] Tracked all food and drinks
Think I need to focus on drinking more water throughout the day 🤔

I'm going to be one of those who will be tracking indefinitely. Otherwise I'm sure I'll gain the weight back eventually. Even in maintenance my calories aren't that high and it's easy to go over calorie limits.5 -
Exercise - 20 minutes stationary bike plus a couple of walks throughout the day
Within calorie budget - just barely, but yes!
Tracked everything - down to every last taste
Just had a conversation with my mom today where she asked me what I thought maintenance would look like when I get there. She seemed taken aback that I believe it will look exactly the same as losing does. Like @Mrs_Hoffer said... left to my own devices I would love to eat a lot of food... being mindful of what I'm doing seems like it will always have to be reality for me. Of course, I don't know yet how this will unfold, but good to start thinking about it early on for sure.5 -

I have labs in the morning. They'll be looking most closely at A1C and cholesterol. When I started this most recent change of lifestyle journey in April 2020, I was eating what I wanted, when I wanted, however much I wanted. Since then, I've improved, but lately, I'm drifting back into old habits.
April 2020: 223 lbs, 2 oz; A1C = 8.1; 4 of the 7 lipid tests were way out of range.
August 2020: 203lbs, 6.3 oz; A1C = 6.3; all lipid tests well within normal range.
February 2021: 184 lbs, 3.2 oz; A1C = 5.8; all lipid tests maintained about the same level.
What will tomorrow bring? I don't know. I just don't know. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days when the results get posted to my portal.5 -

I used to be one that said I hated tracking, was no good at it, wanted a “diet” where I didn’t have to track, and absolutely refused to accept the idea of tracking the rest of my life. Now I understand. I understand that tracking is just a habit to develop, like brushing our teeth or making our bed in the AM. You don’t HAVE to do either of those things, but the first keeps your teeth healthy and the second helps the bedroom look better. And really, online trackers make it so easy. It takes almost no time at all. I’m still not 100% consistent, but I’m close.ashleycarole86 wrote: »

This is something I heard on a podcast recently and it was such an eye opening moment. It seems so obvious and yet this is exactly why we regain the weight after losing it. But not this time. I’ve been stalled the last 1 1/2 months and am up a couple pounds, but I am not going anywhere, not giving up, and am back on track. I accept that this is a journey and it could take some time. I accept that when I am satisfied with a weight, I will keep doing what I’m already doing so I can stay there.

Tracking: Yes - take out, so did the best I could
Calories: Over - but I’m happy that it wasn’t by that much because I used to be way over with take out. I’ve noticed over the last few months that I’m becoming much more aware of food choices and portion sizes with restaurants/take out. It’s becoming more natural and less of an effort. Plus, if I want a dessert, I now split it with my husband. I’m finding it true that I really only want about 4-5 bites anyway. After that I’m just finishing and not enjoying.
Exercise: Yes - walk
Tracking - in addition to above, I weigh everything I eat when I’m cooking at home. It makes it easier to eyeball things. I find when I take a break from weighing, after a few weeks my eyeball estimations are no longer within the realm of possibility. After a month, eyeballing doesn’t even cross my mind. After 2 months, I am amazed that I am surprised when I’ve gained a few or more pounds. How am I surprised? Plus I am not satiated until I’ve eaten enough protein and carbs. Fat tends to take care of itself for me. So I track both for calories but macros are super important for me.
I have been on a roller coaster of gaining and losing weight most of my 55+ years. No more. For the last 21 months I have been consistently weighing food and tracking. Although I am trying to lose another 10 pounds, I am in no hurry. I am staying consistent and it really isn’t an effort anymore. Weighing and tracking are now just a part of my routine self care. It takes no more perceived effort than showering, brushing my teeth, etc.

Late checking in, yesterday got really sloppy. Tracking stopped later in the evening. Watch was in the charger for a couple of hours so movement calories were missed. Again, no change in weight so no damage, but I don't want sloppy habits to become the norm. Pass again.7

August 4:
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? No. It was "a day," as my late grandmother used to say. I realize in hindsight that exercise would have probably made it a better day. Lesson learned.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? No. Exercise would have off-set my calories. But, I am proud that I did not snack or binge.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes!

Tracking is the key to true accountability, which I have learned since joining MFP. In the past, I infrequently used "food logs," which were really just me keeping lists of the food I ate. But, these lists did not actually track amounts or caloric intake. So, I still didn't realize how much I was eating.

@tahm42 I only know one other person who can do handstand push-ups. He's an endurance athlete and a military vet. I SALUTE YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT and wish you a speedy recovery.
@SummerSkier Thanks for the link. I just bookmarked the "Most Helpful Posts - Goal: Maintaining Weight (Must Reads)" thread.
@seilidhe Great progress with your bloodwork. Even maintaining the numbers makes all the difference!!I don't refer to my actual weight loss metrics much because it unsettles me. But somewhere around last month, I decided I didn't need to lose any more weight: I was in my planned 5 lb target zone.
That means, from DEC2019 to JUL2021, I lost a newborn calf.
Since my teens, I've gone up and down with my weight three times prior to this. But THIS is my life now and I can't go back ever again. Ever. 🤷🏾♀️
Consistent tracking is what got me here and continued tracking is what will help me reach my body composition
goal (adding +3% lean mass). After that? Yup...I'll still be tracking.
Speaking of which...

@MaltedTea I had to click through — awesome work!!! And, I’ve kept that bookmark now.
I too struggle with naming the loss metric in pounds. I lost that baby calf on WW five years ago but “found” him again (or he found me). And he brought a LOT of cheese with him. 🐄 🧀 What a shock!
I am here. I am not leaving this journey — ever. I know that I can and I will lose the baby calf and more. But it is really clear to me that I need a life plan that will keep me healthy, and for me, that means tracking and accountability — forever. Or that baby calf will keep coming back.
Long response to say your post really helped me. It gave me hope and a renewed sense of resolve. Thank you. 🥰3 -
I had to LOL at the idea of losing a 5000 BTU air conditioner! Where did that thing go? I should be practically invisible if that was the case! And it's worrisome that I am this close to an elephant...umm....err...uhh....5

@seilidhe
Remember life is full of ups and downs this includes our weight our tracking our exercise. You are at least recognizing the pitfalls and working to make changes don’t be so hard on yourself3 -
@seilidhe good luck on your labs. I think it's encouraging to see the improvements for every 20lbs you've lost. I'm retaking my labs in early Sept and am hoping all the inflammation markers have improved. I've returned to a modified W30/paleo for most of this month as an anti-inflammation strategy. For me this means avoiding grains, dairy & alcohol. However, I still use condiments that are not compliant because I like my food to be flavorful. I won't restrict on my vacation either.
@MaltedTea ... that title
I'm at an automobile tire and goal is amount of cheese an average American eats in a year4 -
