HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Hey Assets, welcome to August! We have lots of new folks joining this month, so I guess it’s time to introduce ourselves and get to know each other a little bit.
I’m 29 and live in Finland with my husband. We’re currently expecting our first child, due at the end of October, so I’m not trying to lose any weight. I’m hanging out in the support squad, planning to rejoin the team once I get medical clearance postpartum.
My maternity leave starts in 7 weeks (mid-September) and I’m planning on staying home until August/September next year, and I plan on spending that time not only caring for and bonding with my baby, but also with myself. I’ve been on the ”do-what-you’re-supposed-to” societal pressure hamster wheel since I went to elementary school, somehow managing to finish all my schooling, go to college and graduate law school with a Master’s degree, live abroad for a year, get ahead on my career, buy an apartment, get married and have a baby before I turn 30. I’m exhausted and I’ve neglected my own wellbeing, and it’s now time to care less about what society wants me to do and more about what I want for myself and finding my own rhythm in life.
I’m starting to have that ”new semester” feeling that always builds up towards the end of the summer. I even signed up for a new hobby, even though it’s just a 3-week maternity yoga class that starts next week. I found an exercise studio near where I live that specializes in maternity classes. I already checked some other classes they have that I’m going to sign up for if I have a good experience with the yoga.
Anyone else have that new semester feeling yet, and what are your plans for the fall?7 -
This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Good Morning Shrinking Asset members! It’s a beautiful day here in Missouri USA. We Finally got some rain and a cool off! I’m looking forward……forward to getting to attend church (mask on) this morning……forward to our first week of the August F2F Challenge…..forward to a new work week…(I’m a 61 y/o RN working in the OR)….and forward to just being a living child if God. Hope everyone is healthy and ready to start our adventure! My weigh in day is Wednesday! Let’s DO THIS!6 -
Good Morning Everyone,
My name is Angela and I live in south central Pennsylvania. I am 41 years old and live with my husband, 12 year old stepson, our three cats, and our 2 year old welsh corgi. I teach elementary music; kindergarten through 5th grade and love every minute of it!
I have been overweight/obese for pretty much all of my life and tried countless times to lose the weight. My typical pattern is to lose about 50 lbs and then fall off track through a series of "little quits" and eventually gain back everything I've lost...and then some.
I am determined to make this health and wellness journey my last...the one that continues until the end of my days. Basically, no quitting. The weight comes off so slowly now that I am over 40...but again, I will not quit.
My progress so far in 2021:
January -11
February -5.8
March -5.4
April -0.2
May -5.0
June -8.0
July -1.0
I try to focus on my habits, not the scale. I even created my own habit tracker that I keep in my planner and color in daily...it has really helped keep me focused.
This challenge has also kept me accountable over the past 2 months.
Here's wishing us all a healthy and successful August!9 -
Good morning and happy August.
Saturday is my weigh-in day and was not home.
PW: 282
CW: 280.6
Had a flair up this week so could not walk like I wanted to. Have been instructed to walk only three times a week until my muscles get stronger. Was mindful this week of what I ate. Didn't meet my water drinking goal but did my best. More of my clothes are starting to fit differently. The shirt I wore yesterday, yeah it was unexpectedly loose.
Though I have been with this group for a short time, it has helped me greatly. It has helped me be more accountable especially with my walking routine. It has helped me with portion control. (Regularly ask how will it affect my weigh-in and not overeat.) This group has even helped me with my stress eating. This group is helping me slowly build my confidence back up.
Thank you, guys!!! Have a great day!!!8 -

Hello … and welcome to all the new Shrinking Assets members! This is a long post, intended to outline what worked for me to move from an overweight BMI to the ‘normal’ range. Here are my stats: 5’4” female weighing with a starting weight of 168 and about 40 pounds lost (128.8 today).
The TL/DR version is this:
I’ve experienced phases when weight loss was faster (1 pound per week) and slower (.25 of a pound per week) but the trend continues to move down, if you stick to your plan when it’s working. When it’s not working, reflect on what you’re learning from MFP tracking data and experienced group members and make adjustments. You can do it and this group can help!
Phase 1 of Journey
I started on my weight loss journey at 168 pounds, which is my highest non-pregnancy weight. I consulted a nutritionist (virtually) in March 2020 and she encouraged me to sign up for MFP and set my macronutrient goals to 50 percent carbs, 30 percent fat, and 20 percent protein. I gave her access to my food diary - and checked in with her a few times by phone - until I built some positive habits (e.g., logging my food, managing portion sizes and addressing my afternoon low energy dip with healthy protein instead of high calorie options, etc.). After the 4-package consultation package, I didn’t need to renew regular check-ins but I built in an annual wellness appointment to my yearly planning (e.g., annual physical, 6-month dental visits, mammogram, skin cancer screening, etc.).
I lost a little over 20 pounds during that first 5-month phase, moving from the overweight BMI category to ‘normal’ about this time last year. That was about an average weight loss of 1 pound per week from ~165 in March 2020 to a little less than 145 at the end of July 2020. I became more active in the MFP community forums in April 2020 and found support through the ‘Accountability buddies’ thread of the MFP Support and Motivation group.
Phase 2 of Journey
Then, I lost another 10 pounds over the next 5-month phase (August-December 2020) when my progress was slower but still fairly steady at about a half pound average loss per week. I felt good at 135, and my clothes fit better, but my ultimate goal is to weigh 125. I’ll adjust, if needed, but I weighed between 120-130 for most of my life, and 125 is at the mid-point of a healthy BMI for my height (5 feet, 4 inches tall).
Phase 3 of Journey
During the next 5-month phase, the last 10 pounds were coming off even more slowly. From January through May 2021, I lost 5 more pounds but I noticed more up and down fluctuations. I decided I needed to make some changes and saw the call for new members in the F2F group. I joined this group two months ago - in June 2021 - and I’ve lost about six pounds since then!
Next Steps on the Journey
At approximately 129 pounds, I’m near my ultimate goal weight of 125 and within my maintenance range of 125-130. So, my daily calorie targets are very close to what I’ll need to maintain. I’m hoping to achieve my goal by the end of 2021. Then, I’ll concentrate on any new knowledge and skills needed for maintenance for at least another year, but probably for life! It takes longer to lose the final pounds but I feel so much more comfortable in my clothes and body. I really want these new habits to stick. I’m working hard on my mental stamina as some of the pandemic restrictions lift and I’m facing more social pressure to veer from my nutrition and exercise routines.
Getting to the Destination Together
I appreciate this space as a place to strengthen my good habits and continue to build new skills. This month’s challenge sounds like a perfect opportunity to reflect on the new temptations I’m feeling (e.g., drinking alcohol at parties, going out with friends or traveling that interrupts workout schedules) and hone my ability to make the choice that’s best for my long term health. Let’s develop, nurture, and maintain these positive- lifelong - habits together! We may be on different paths - or at various points in our journey - but we can support and encourage one another in getting to the final destination. Best wishes for the coming month!7 -
Hi SA's....You have a new member heading your way ...Please welcome @tarynjoyp3
-
Hello Everyone, I'm Taryn and I live in Texas with my husband and a collection of plants, geriatric pets and a 2 1/2 year old little girl (hello potty training!). I'm a social worker by trade and stay busy with church stuff and if online shopping was a hobby, I'd be a gold medalist.
My journey: I lost a significant amount of weight about 20 years ago (never all the way where I needed to be) and it's been slowly creeping back. I work out a few times a week and just did a few months on WW. I'm hoping some accountability will make the difference.
My motivation: I'm a 42 year old mom of young kids and I want to be around to be a grandparent.
Nice to meet yall!6 -

Congratulations to all the winners! It looks as though @peachplace was part of the overall F2F leader board for this week, and both @chublet25 and @peachplace made the winner’s list for the month of July … in addition to winning the Shrinking Assets top spots! 🎉 In the spirit of the Olympics, great job on achieving medal status! 🏅
Gold - @peachplace (this week) & @chublet25 (July)
Silver - @chublet25 (this week) & @peachplace (July)
Bronze - @Marni3369 (this week)
In June, the Shrinking Assets team appeared on the F2F winner list more often than July. So, I hope we can get back to our winning formula in August! I’ll do my best to contribute by stepping up my workouts and actively encouraging other members to achieve their goals.
Is anyone else setting up goals in the August Habit Tracker?
My goals are to (1) sleep 7-8 hours each night; (2) exercise 30 minutes per day or 3.5 hours per week; (3) complete a 10-minute abdominal workout daily; (4) drink 72 ounces of water; and (5) stay within my daily calorie goal (or at least make sure the average works out for the week if I don’t meet the goal each day). Let’s set some goals together and support one another in achieving success - both individually and as a team!5 -
Hi! I'm Chris, I am a 46 yr old wife and mom to 4 plus my son in law, grandmother of 2 granddaughters, fur mom to 3 dogs and 4 cats plus a porch cat. I am a stay at home mom who does childcare, caregiver for my elderly mom who suffers from dementia and home schools my kids.
I am new to MFP so this is all a learning curve for me. I have been overweight for many yrs now, yo yo with my weight, but currently at the highest yet. I have a chronic inflammatory disease (lupus, fibro) but continue to try to push through daily. I love to exercise and also love to eat. I have been battling depression which often leads to binge eating and am seeking out help from my pcp tomorrow and hoping to end the cycle. Goals are set up on August habit tracker.6 -
@cre804 I have asked that you be moved to support for August.1

Hi everyone!
My name is Wendy. I am one of your team captains. I live in Wisconsin with my husband and two dogs. I've been on the rollercoaster of weight loss for about 20 years. Something clicked in my head when we were sent home to work because of COVID. I decided I would go back to work smaller than when I left. Being at home made it much easier to get my eating under control and start exercising again. In June I came back to work in-person 5 days a week. So many people comment on my weight loss. It is nice to hear it!
I have lost 60 pounds from my heaviest weight of 214. I use intermittent fasting, 16:8, and watch my calories during the week. Weekends are much more laid back and I usually don't track at all. I have been slacking on my food tracking lately. It hasn't affected me too much but I know I make better progress when I track.
Work life is starting to get very hectic. Stress eating is one of my biggest hurdles to overcome.
My current goals are to drink more water and only eat the food I have brought for myself from home, no snacking in the lunch room or getting take out.
I am up about 5 pounds from my lowest weight which is at the top of my threshold so I need to buckle down and stay focused on healthy habits.3 -
Folks:
I would like to take August off - I am not sure what is going on, but I keep have these serious hunger issues which is freaking me out. I would wake up in the mornings extremely hungry.
I am going to take August to try and sort this out and get my protein in check
I am a non meat/chicken/seafood/eggs/soy eater - also found out that legumes gives me serious indigestion, but plan to bring back into my diet very slowly as I really need to up my protein intake4 -

I'm going to be out of town. Can I skip my Friday weigh-in and catch up next week?1
-
Hi guys!!
Okay... I am trying to get back on track here. I am so glad to be back at my real home. I joked that the first week back, I was going to be so lazy that if breathing didn't come natural, I would just die. LOL.... Well, on my drive back I began getting a sore throat and it is now a full fledge cold. I'm monitoring my symptoms to see if I need to be COVID tested. As of now, no fever and I can smell. So much for enjoying my first week home. I have not been sick (excluding osteo/ortho issues) in about 5 years - two colds this summer. This stinks! Complaining is over.
I am working on my August goals and trying to be realistic and not setting myself up for failure. I feel like I have started each month strong, but a week or 2 into it I fall off. I have gained a lot back and don't have this option anymore. I was 188 on Saturday. I think realistically I can be 180-183 by the end of the month. I am going to hold off for a few days on my fitness goals till I feel better.
I think I have sent a FR to all the new members. I encourage everyone to friend each other, too. We can support each other on and off the thread.
LET'S SLAY AUGUST!!!6 -

Weigh in...Friday
PW 281.4
CW 281.4
Argh..... pretty sure I posted this but don't see it.... want my new weigh in day to be Friday, please.
This is not a good week. Too much of life going on and food is my solace. Need to get things straight and get back on track..
I have 2 months before knee surgery. Would like to lose 15 or 20 pounds. Need to gain leg strength....was on a good routine for leg exercises but that stopped within the last week, dont know when, just realized I wasn't doing my exercises.
Argh... I have no excuses.
Retired...work is not a factor.
I'm lazy? That sounds bad.
Traveled today...fast food.
Travel home tomorrow...gotta do better.
Only I can make this change.......9 -
1.Nothing of value comes without effort.
2.What you want is determined by what you do.
Have both of these quotes on my list of things to ponder.
Think I'll put some thought into both if these quotes and wake up to a new day with a new start.6 -

Argh!! So back to the weight jumping.. I don’t love how I fluctuate like this.. Dr said it’s normal.. i just want steady loss.. argh!!
We have adopted nightly walks (husband and I) approx 2 miles a night…. So that should help a little bit.. I know I need to focus on the daily logging… logging helps..

My last weigh in was WAY WAY up! I stepped on the scales today and they are dropping. Guess this is the bonus of being under the weather. 🤣🤣🤣
I have no appetite today. Simply trying to stay hydrated.4 -
@dew11252 - Thanks for sharing your inspirational quotes. I really like this one: “What you want is determined by what you do.”
@peachplace - Walking 2 miles each night is great! Good for you (and your husband)!
Congratulations on another fantastic loss @chublet25. That’s amazing progress!
@Beka3695 - I’m sorry you’re not feeling well but glad to see you’re coping well and maintaining a sense of humor. Laughter can be good medicine.
I’m happy to see so many names listed in the August Habit Tracker! Wishing you all well in meeting your daily targets. Go Shrinking Assets!5 -
