If you don't want an injury, stay away from Crossfit

Sadly, I just heard about another fitness minded friend that got injured doing Crossfit
While Crossfit might be a way to get fit fast, the sport has a higher rate of injury than most Crossfit box owners are willing to admit.
At many Crossfits, the workouts can be extreme, and the coaches very pushy. I know several people that got hurt because the Crossfit coach kept telling them to push when they should have let them take a break. And from all I hear, that sort of thing seems to be pretty common. Some Crossfit facilities can have a cult-like meentality, where there is lots of pressure to leave your common sense behind and keep pushing on, even when you know you shouldn't.
There are much safer, less dangerous and less expensive ways to get fit than Crossfit.
I would suggest you check out boot camp classes in your area if you are interested in an intense workout with lots of variety. It is probably much less expensive to do boot camp than Crossfit too.

How absurd a program!! I'd finally started getting fit & losing weight just before christmas & then i tore the muscles in my back badly, that just put me back to where i had started because even feeding the dogs became too painful (they didn't starve but my bf had to fit that into his already tight morning schedule) let alone getting back into the gym.0

Sorry that happened to you!
From all I've heard, doing Crossfit has a pretty high risk of injuries.
But the people that make big money from running and coaching Crossfit gyms want people to overlook that part0 -
I've heard this a lot too. I've been intrigued by crossfit, but never done it. But from what I've seen, some of the moves look very hard on your shoulders and I know some one too who has had injury and surgery too from crossfit. Sad.0

I do know some women who have done GREAT things with CrossFit, who do post positive experiences here on mfp.
It is too bad that you didn't have a good experience. I have not been to any CrossFit gym - just read about it here and on other forums.
It may not be right for you, but that isn't quite the same as suggesting it isn't right for anybody! (To each his/her own, right??)0 -
NO,no, I don't mean sad for everyone, I mean it's sad that people are getting hurt and the people responsible for designing the program (Reebok and trainers) are not doing enough to ensure0

No. Cross fit is essentially doing weight lifting for cardio. It is a race, it is timed, and in crossfit time > form. This and the poor instructions given to average joes lifting 4x more than they should be is why it's so dangerous. Wish I could say its not like that at every "Crossfit" gym, but sadly, it is.....0 -
I haven't done Crossfit, but I think it would be too hard on my body. I have issues with my knees, so I have to be careful with doing too many barbell squats. Th
There is a Crossfit place right down the street from my home. The majority of people I see going there are quite fit looking.
This YouTube video of some Crossfitters is pretty amusing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNQoec2JI08 :laugh:0 -
Since Reebok started partnering with Crossfit, I decided to boycott their brand.0
