3 months in

I'm almost 3 months in with tracking and exercise and the old thoughts have started coming back. I look at the daunting task of losing 140 lbs and it seems like that goal is unattainable. At some point I get tired of being "good" and go back to my old ways. I read this comment yesterday on a Facebook group I frequent:

"You don't have a significant weight loss journey ahead of you. You have a course in responsible eating ahead of you which will result in considerable weight loss. Focus on today, every day. The rest will take care of itself."

I felt like I could relax after I read this.

    Glad you’re thinking that way.

When I started losing weight at 315, I didn’t set a goal. That was deliberate; I knew that the amount of weight I needed to lose would seem insurmountable and feel overwhelming. Instead, I committed to follow the process as best I could for three months, and reassess at that point. Spoiler alert; it worked.

I’ve kept that approach. I didn’t set a goal weight (180) until I was around 200. Even now, after regaining 89# over six years (and losing 65 in the past eighteen months) it’s about the quality of decision I made this week and how well I followed the process rather than how much weight I lost.

Another take on it? I read somewhere a long time ago that the reason a horse stops when you pull back on the reins is because it pulls his head down - and if a horse can’t see where he’s going, he won’t run. That’s an apt comparison for you and I - if we can’t see ahead to our goal weight, we won’t run.

So, good for you for the lesson. I think you’re taking the right approach. 👍

Same here. I started (this time) at 335#. Just started plugging (had a computer program that helped a lot, until I upgraded, and the 16 bit wouldn't work anymore). Went back to WW with TOL, and had a Dr. note for 220#, and am now down to 223.8#, and will work, slowly, for a 10 safety net. Like Charlie said, keep my head down.

Several of us are facing the same issues. You're going to make it. Tenacity is key.
