So the name of this particular website is "myfitnesspal". How long have you been using this website and what are the primary benefits it has provided to you? Why do you stay?
Nov will mark 10 years that I have been a member. Curious as to inputs from the UAC family.

Exercise: Yes (20 minute dog walk and 30 minute Body Tone workout)
Calories under: Yes
Tracked all: Yes

MPF is a way of keeping myself honest (when I actually use it). Finding this group within the MPF website was such a fortunate find 2 years ago and I was overjoyed to discover it was still here when I went looking.6 -

Declaring Pass Day #2. Had a lovely museum visit and lunch in Nimes with my very oldest Dutch friends, on holiday down here in the South of France. Unless I go for a walk of more than an hour and a half now, that's it, I am way over calories.8 -
@SummerSkier I found this website many years ago, when it was still just a Calorie Counter, or something, which was the only thing I needed, an easy way to work out how many calories were in certain foods. It then became MFP. I would still use it, if only for the calorie counting part. I've been doing the UAC on and off for some time now, feel like I have got to know some of the regulars, and in a funny way this helps me keep on track. Sometimes it feels like a social media kind of site, which is not necessarily a bad thing.10

My daughters suggested the site to me in 2014 when I needed to lose weight for an operation on my hip. I had been trying on my own and wasn’t doing well. I didn’t start using it seriously until Jan 2015.
MFP gave me a workable structure, and I found that people were very helpful. I lost almost 50 lbs in 2015. (I had my surgery in September 2015, and just carried on afterwards.)
I enjoy the groups on Community, and have been a member of a number of them over the years. They are a great motivator.
I plateaued in 2017, but restarted at the beginning of 2019 and hit maintenance before that Christmas.
Have been slowly losing since then. I am in the normal range for my sex, age, height, and build. My current focus is health and fitness and maintaining a healthy weight.8 -

@Chinkiri interesting so that WAS a long time ago because it was already MFP when I joined in 2011. Glad you are here and it's a GOOD social media kind of thing (IMO)
@TerriRichardson112 another long termer! I do focus on fitness and health now so really am glad the site is called myFITNESSpal. LOL7 -
I've been on and off of MFP since approx 2011, even with a couple of (my) name changes! Lol. But as I've stated before, whenever I would get near my goal weight, I would stop logging on and "go off my diet"..... only to gain the weight back.
This time around, I've been on for 432 days. And I've come to realize that I will probably have to be a lifelong member if I want to keep the weight off. (I can't stand the pop up that comes up ever 5 days to say how long ppl have been on this sight, so I have mine disabled. I type it in myself every 50 days).
I think that being "active" here also keeps it interesting (for me)!........... Sometimes it feels like a social media kind of site, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
@Chinkiri I started getting on MFP in more of a "social" aspect last year, when I just couldn't take any more of the "drama" and political crap on facebook! I now only get on fb once or twice a week to see what pics the kids and grands have posted as we have family in about 5 different states and it's an easy way to keep up with what's going on with all of them!

Stopping in to respond to the discussion - will respond with daily check in later.
I joined in 2012 after losing almost 40lbs from 2010-2012. Prior to that I logged calories on Calorie King, used the forums on 3FatChicks and I had a blog. I got tired of paying for CK, so I joined MFP in Jan 2012 when I was training for my half marathon. Then I ran the half marathon, bought a house and traded run times in for house projects, had a kid and a terrible csection, and just did not care. I'd track for like a month, and then stray.
Then I went on a work trip mid 2019 and left feeling terrible enough to make a change. (Insert my insecurity about my work offsite early 2022 and my subsequent dress obsession). I joined Noom in August 2019, then WW for a bit late 2019, before landing back on MFP in 2020. I think the moral of the story is I'm cheap and don't like paying for things. LOL. However, I decided to start using the forums for the first time end of 2020, and here we are. It really does enhance the MFP experience - although some people stress me out a little on their strict rules for how much you have to engage with them to remain friends? 😬
I stay because I finally realized when I don't track, the weight always comes back. I'm here for good.
Thank you all for the support a long the way 🤗6 -
I don't know what my check-in post later may look like (should be on track though) so I'll reply to the topic now.
I joined July 15, 2014, and I can honestly say I am not 100% sure of the exact motivator other than this site had a number of useful capabilities for me. At that point I had already lost 66 pounds since January 2014 tracking my food intake via spreadsheet and keeping my carbs within my doctors guidance. So obviously the food tracking was useful.
But at that point I was transitioning from daily 6 mile walks to starting to run a little during those walks. I felt I could not afford any more time walking so I needed a better form of exercise. I had no bike or other equipment and knew my feet were free to use, so I chose running (little did I know about the costs of running shoes then). Because of that timing, I found the community on MFP extremely helpful in regards to all sorts of questions I had as a "new runner" about running, diet, you name it. So it wasn't too long before the social aspect of the site was my primary motivator for using the site, and it still is. The food database and macro tracking is the best sort of icing available for this cake called MFP (in my opinion).
I've come and gone a couple times due to injuries or otherwise just quitting entirely, and lost some friends along the way. The best ones re-friended me after they saw me posting or commenting somewhere. Others have also disappeared themselves. Sometimes I recall being friends with someone who is no longer in my friends list, and try to remember what their screen name was as when I get curious about how they are doing. Sometimes I remember and typically find they have been inactive for a while. Some have sadly moved on from this world, which I only learn about by reconnecting socially here. That part really sucks, but that is how life goes.
Currently I stay because of that community and the tracking. It works hand in hand for me that way. Granted, I'm back to primarily tracking my main numbers in a spreadsheet, but I still log everything in MFP and just take the total numbers into my spreadsheet for tracking.
ETA: I keep forgetting to mention, but anyone in UAC looking to add friends can send me a friend request if you mention you are in UAC (or I simply recognize you from here). I don't advertise that all the time because it can be hard to keep up when the friends list gets huge. But I also know that people come and go from here a lot, so in a way the list maintains itself. For now though, anyone here can send me one if they desire.4 -

What a difference a day makes!! Yesterday just didn't go my way but when I posted last night I said to myself that I had to take some responsibility and make myself a better day.
I did my usual morning yoga with Dustin (apple fitness, my favourite yoga teacher) who told me to make an intention....so I did, I made an intention to be intentional all day. And it worked...I was fully immersed in my work, got loads done, no random snacking AND I made time to go for a swim this evening. Very pleased with myself for doing that as I find it so easy to just give into tiredness at the end of the day. And pleased with everything else I achieved today.
Exercise - 20 mins yoga (thank you Dustin!) and 20 minutes of swimming
Calories - yes
Tracking - yes
Thank you UAC, it was the act of posting my self inflicted rubbish day yesterday that made me turn myself around today.
I've been on MFP on and off for a few years. It's not until I found UAC last year that I actually engaged with any forums. The UAC for me is the thing that makes MFP work.10 -

Exercise today was another strength workout (Upper Body B: DB Rows, DB Overhead Press, DB Bicep Curls)
My foot is feeling a lot better but is not 100% yet. I've had tennis elbow before and it was a bear to get rid of, this is so much like that.
I found out today I will need to have a surgery performed in the next week or so that may keep me sidelined from walking/running anyway (not the foot). Been feeling a little weird simply due to that knowledge. No one word comes to mind, I'm just "not happy" about it. So making myself feel better by trying to be happy about it. It has at least brought an inner chuckle and smile.9 -
I've been a MFP member since August 12, 2013. I was a Weight Watchers member back then, had been since Jan 2003. Despite becoming Lifetime in June 2003 (reached 128 lbs having lost 20 lbs in that time) I continued going to meetings and counting Points. I couldn't sustain 128 lbs, which I was all right with--I fluctuated pretty much between 132 and 138. I liked the points system back when the points were determined by CALORIES, fat, and fiber. But then at some point WW changed it so that calories were no longer in the equation and I found my weight was hovering more in the 138-141 range. 141 is the top weight in the healthy weight range for my height. So in 2013 at 141 lbs I said enough is enough and I joined MFP in order to be able to count calories. I continued going to WW meetings until early 2015 when I finally quit WW for good.
Besides going to WW meetings, in 2005 I started to use the WW message boards, specifically a thread called the Binge Enders Challenge. Then in 2006 I started my own thread, the 10 Cent Healthy Habits Challenge. In Aug 2016 we moved the group from WW to MFP. This is the group's description:
"This is a thread that was first established on the Weight Watchers message boards in 2006 until WW eliminated their message boards end of July/beginning Aug 2016. We earn "dimes" by following our Healthy Habits and then when our dimes add up we buy ourselves something special as a reward for our good efforts. Earning and spending the dimes is a fun way to stay on track, but the real reward is the support and encouragement we give each other as we get closer and closer to our weight loss goals."
We are a small group of 14 members, but really only 10 of us post either on a daily basis or at least check in about once a week. I post there at least once a day.
I go through phases where I do really well tracking my food in MFP but other times I don't do so well at all. The reason I joined UAC in September was to give me more accountability so that I could start making tracking one of my Healthy Habits that I actually follow on a regular basis again. It has been working!7 -
Yes x3
I think I've been on here for about 10 years give or take.6 -
I have been with mfp since 2018 I have been a daily logger since probably 2019 and plan on going no where this site has allowed me to remain focused on me even when I haven’t done so well in my book.
Today is pass #1 I did walk and track but the pizza and beer did me in thank god for tomorrow!!6 -
yes for 3
I've been on MFP since 2012 but didn't get serious and consistent until 2017.6 -
I stumbled across MFP in mid July through a google search for the calories in some food. I discovered I had already joined back in 2017, I assume for the same reason.
Anyway, July was the first time I actually explored the website and started tracking. I joined UAC and one other challenge, and discovered the concept of "maintenance." Fascinating...I have a history of yo yo dieting, and of course every time I lost the weight it was unimaginable to me that I would allow myself to regain it. Doing so would be mania! After all of the hard work? However, I realized I never had an actual plan, and sooner or later the weight was back.
I had never heard of the concept of maintenance. Back in August I even commented on UAC that I had never met anyone that tracked unless they were on a diet. The concept blew my mind. Over the last couple of months I have discovered quite an underground movement here at MFP though, and I am trying to absorb all of the information and advice that I can. I am trying to piece together strategies that will truly work for me this time around. It might not be the same plan that someone else finds success with, but I am giving it a lot of thought and appreciate all of the personal stories and perspectives everyone shares at UAC each day.
As for how I use the website--tracking obviously, occasionally reading different threads on the message boards that catch my eye, UAC, and the amazing Hogwarts Challenge (where I am Hermione on steroids).5 -

I love the idea of this 10 Cent Healthy Habits Challenge! I did a MFP Community search but can’t find it — could you share info on how to find and join it?
Thanks!

I am sorry about the upcoming surgery. It is okay to let yourself feel disappointed - I know I would be. 🥰 You are in terrific physical shape so my hope for you is that outcomes and healing will be full and quick. Take good care if yourself.

I found and joined MFP at the end of July 2021 and found UAC days later. Thank goodness as this terrific group and challenge has been critical to my success so far. I honestly feel accountable to not only myself, but to all of you (and that is a good motivator for me).
I have the free edition at this point, and only use it through the app on my iPhone. Someone posted the other day about issues with a split column view on the iPad — I have that trouble too, but only with the posts from certain people. So I don’t use the iPad for viewing as it is just too irritating. If someone knows how to fix this?
I found out quickly that MFP has lots of trolling “friend” requests which I just ignore unless the person tells me how they know me or why they want to connect. I am happy to be friends with more UAC folk — just mention UAC in the body of the friend request. 🥰

I started using MFP in 2010 at the suggestion of a nutritionist at my gym. With her help I dropped about 25 pounds. After five years of struggling with foot problems and being unable to run or hike I had surgery last year. Two of them! I’m just now getting back on my feet, literally, and MFP has come to the rescue again. Finding this challenge has been an extra bonus and is definitely keeping me focused and honest and inspired.5 -
