Yes x 3
Hopefully today I will get the way I want to post my tracking info all settled into the way I like it. I feel like I need to be doing more tracking - when I post "yesx3" I am kinda in the mindset of "ballpark figures and approximations". I feel I should be more accurate and detailed. I know I need to be flexible and it's a work in progress.
As for today's discussion I had to look on my profile to see when I started MFP. It was December 30, 2018. I was in the middle of my MBA degree and wanted to start my diet again. In 2016 I was on Spark People (which I just learned has completely shut down now and rebranded itself) I lost 50 pounds using Spark People, and finally learned how to understand calorie counting. I really loved the community support and encouragement I found in Spark People.
When I joined MFP I was a little scared of the message boards. There was a lot more people on MFP that wanted to argue with each other. Let me tell you that I was very happy to find the link to join UAC on my first day of MFP!! I am not a big message board person, I might try it again later, but honestly, I just want to focus on being a good active member of the UAC.
Getting my degree and trying to get healthy was too much for me to manage, but I tried to handle both on top of being a single mom. However, I just couldn't do it. I graduated in December 2019 so I started back up on MFP in early 2020, but covid hit, and my nightmare with my abusive ex and our son started a few months later.
So now life is finally less stressful and I am able to focus on developing a healthy lifestyle vs my crazy cycle of on-again and off-again diet cycles. I have also learned that I am not superwoman and instead of having too many irons in the fire at once, I need to focus on a few things and accomplish those and move on to the next goal. With that said, I now feel I have my life back and out of the abusive situation with my ex. I can rebuild my life and make the rest of my life a better life for me and my son. Which now feels like a "better fit" for me to focus on losing weight and developing a healthy lifestyle for me and my son.
I just realized for being on MFP since 2019 - my food database is small. I need to get better at adding foods instead of "quick add calories".

I agree with @snowshoe072 that this group def helps to keep me accountable and focused. I'm also in a couple of other step challenge groups as well. I'd give almost anything if I could run, or even jog - but my knees just cannot take it. So I just follow some of the other runners that we have in the group ( @SummerSkier @mshawski @WhatMeRunning @bradkcrew @slimtastesbetter with envy. Lol.
Its funny you say this, because I'm constantly telling people I'm not a runner. I'm a swimmer. But like, I run 3-4 times a week and I haven't swam competitively in 18 years. So really I am a runner. I find it amusing how (and this is a perfect example) we settle into these ideas about who/what we are and we just get stuck there. I think that ends up being most of the battle on these journeys, redefining ourselves to ourselves. Maybe one day in my brain I won't be the "chubby swimmer" and I can be the "fit runner". It's a work in progress. LOL.8 -
Exercise yes
Tracking and calories no
So I used it for a while before I found spark people. Spark people website shut down over the summer so lots of us came here. I use mfp for the community.6 -
This past August was 11 years since I’ve signed up. I was very active on it. I enjoyed the socialising aspect of it and it kept me focused on being healthy. It’s always when I stop logging that I start putting on weight. MFP daily check ins kept my weight/health goals at the forefront of my mind and helped me lose weight or at least not gain.
Back then I used to just use it on desktop (the only option 😆) and I would spend hours reading through posts. With mobile… it’s great as it’s convenient to log meals but I that was pretty much all I would use the app for. But it’s really the chats that motivate me to keep at it.
What I also like about it, is that I can get advise from my younger thinner self 😂
Things that worked for me then seem to be doing the trick now. I also love hearing about what works for others and it inspires me to shake things up a bit.
Unless I get pregnant again, I know I’m going to reach my weight loss goals. I’m determined 👊
✅ exercise - running around after a busy toddler

I am fairly new to mfp and been with UAC for 10 month's now. It's the only group I'm a part of at this stage. In a couple of months wen im ready to do recomposition I may look into finding a group to assist with that but yeah I'm committed to stay in UAC for good as it keeps me on track. Xo
