Oh wow -a good friend lives there!! So lovely!
Treadmills are great! That’s what @themedalist uses!!!
I have a good friend who is 10months along her liver transplant. Her feet & ankles & tummy are still lswollen even tho she limits salt, drinks water, and walks daily. Other than that, she’s doing great!!
I am 4 years post kidney transplant, doing great. We are all very lucky!
Warm welcomes to the group!

WELCOME @Whidislander !! I have a treadmill in the basement, and hate walking on it because the scenery never changes! (White concrete block walls don't help either!) Lol. Last year I did hook up my tablet and watch Amazon Prime movies on it while I walked..... that helped.
I think this winter I'll redecorate that area of the basement and put some (fake) plants down there and my little ceramic pot fountain (I love that it makes the sound of a babbling brook!) and see if I can't make it a little more pleasing to the senses to walk on the treadmill! Lol.

Thanks for the welcome Maddie, my husband had a years worth of stents in his bile duct 2017 and so in 2018 Feb, the doctors rerouted his liver directly to his intestines. Problem solved. He had a swollen belly for a long while, every so often they would have to go in an relieve the issue, poor guy. But he's my hero, and I marvel at his stamina! Sending healing thoughts to your friend, and congrats to you in your post op kidney transplant!👍🙏
Its blustery on the island today, so I didn't go to the gym with husband. I know, no excuse. I will walk around the neighborhood for 45 min later today.

Nice to meet you! Husband and I go to the Navy on base gym, (when I do go), because we're retired military. Gotta use those perks. But most of the time its empty, the squadrons going in afternoons or evenings most likely. Great job on your totals thus far in Oct! A pot fountain would make me wanna use the bathroom, but the important thing is you do you!👍

Fully in favour of walking. I love my walking Workouts, courtesy of Leslie Sansone et al. I would be bereft without them, as I'm not a fan of walking outside in bad weather. 😂 Walking is a daily given in my lexicon of health/fitness.I'm an assistant Leader in a walking group.
- I walk over 3 miles most days, and even occasionally top 5 miles
- I walk a minimum of 30 mins daily.
- I often walk around the house during ad breaks on TV to get in more steps. You would be amazed at how much that ads up.
However, I think I need an October Oasis, after all the freneticism of the summer. 😂
I need time to review my progress since the beginning of July, and plan my way forward. I will continue with my Daily Habits, and post my tracker once a week.
I think I'm ready to work on my sleep habits, and try to get to bed before midnight.
This is what I'm contemplating:
In October I will ....... switch off my devices at 11 pm for the next 10 days
(I will review at that point, and may bring the shutdown back a little)
Sun 3: 👍🏻 Shutdown. Fell asleep quickly and slept almost all the way through.
Fitbit score 86
🛌
Mon 4: 👍🏻 Straight into deep sleep, but woke up a few times through the night.
Tues 5: Getting all my internet stuff done early, so on track for shutdown tonight.

@TerriRichardson112 Great plan - shutting off your devices "early" - I get up at 4:30am 3 days/week to drive in to Columbus to go to work (45 min drive), so on those days I **TRY** to go to bed by 9pm at the latest. (Last night, I think I was in bed by 8pm!) Lol. The other 2 days/wk I work from home, so I can literally roll out of bed at 5:45 in order to log onto the computer by 6am. Lol. (That's a LITTLE better!)
But my "retirement" from this bank job is 340 days away, and I can't wait!!!!We're pretty slow at work right now, so it's like having to go into work 3 days and then having 4 days "off". (I only have to log on and show an online presence for 8 hours!)
So I have it pretty good, and don't complain.
Oct 1 - 7749 steps and 1 mile walk.
Oct 2 - 29,407 steps and 10.5 miles walking my #icecreamwalk
Oct 3 - 13,921 steps and 5.75 mile walk.
Oct 4 - 12,947 steps and 5 mile walk.
Oct 5 - 29,779 steps and 11.75 mi. walking. (I needed to do some catching up!)
Total Steps/Goal: 93,803/500,000
Total Miles/Goal: 34/200 miles3 -
@Mrs_Hoffer
The switch off is a biggie for me because I am essentially a night owl. When I’ve tried it before I just ended up waking up earlier, so wasn’t really getting extra sleep. This time I seem to be sleeping a little longer and not waking up this much during the night, so it’s a win for that alone.
I can thoroughly recommend retirement. It gives you time to do all those things that you actually want to do as opposed to what you have to do. Hence I am able to do exercise whenever I like and please myself most of the rest of the time.3 -

Nice to meet you, Rebecca @Whidislander! We are very happy you have joined our group! I’ve been in a military family my whole life and I grew up as the daughter of a Navy submariner. I married an army guy, but my dad still likes him. 😀 —Denise3 -

Oh my goodness, @TerriRichardson112, your post is so timely! I’ve been thinking more and more about retirement and all the things I’d like to do. It won’t happen for several years, but I’m starting to put it on the horizon.4 -

Nice to meet you Denise! I bet when Dec rolls around and the Army/Navy game comes on, there is some yelling in your family tree!😁.
My husband was a scope dope, did radar. He put his 20 in, and retired at 37, to be a civilian, working as a purchasing agent for many construction companies. My eldest has been in Navy for 14 years, about to head to Guam, my middle son and wife both did their respective 4 years, and my youngest son is Navy overseas.
Being a Navy submariner is difficult, no contact with family, plus your confined sense of space. I commend your father, and thank him for his service, plus the service of your Army guy.👍. Supporting a military husband is never easy, few can hack it, and its not for everyone! I followed my husband to Japan for two tours, my eldest son growing up there, I ate it up, loved it!

Thanks, Everyone! I’ll be including @jamcnewman, @77tes, @MadisonMolly2017, @Mrs_Hoffer, and myself in the map. There’s still time if anyone else wants in.
But I also want to stress, especially to our new members, that it isn’t necessary to push yourself to achieve a certain number of active minutes or miles walked per week. There are tremendous benefits to your health from even a short walk every day. Consider this: if you go out for a 15 minute daily walk it might not seem like much, but walking 15 minutes each day becomes 91 hours that you are now walking every year! And that’s huge!
Our group recognizes and celebrates the power of small changes to have a big impact on our lives. So please don’t feel badly if you’re not ready to stretch your legs. We just hope you’ll find a spot for walking regularly in your life. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel!

Well, we've walked 190 miles in our Week 1 Walktober Challenge! Well done, us!
So let's imagine we are walking from London, England to Florence, Italy. That's about a 1000 miles! We've made it over the English Channel (@77tes is a really strong swimmer!) and we are now just north of Saint Quentin, France. Here's our progress on the map:
Saint Quentin seems like a really charming place! When we look around, here's what we see:
Since we've walked almost 200 miles, can we stop for some coffee and croissants?
Please join us on Week 2 of our Walktober challenge. Track your miles from Saturday Oct 9 through Friday, Oct 15th and post it here next weekend.4 -
Does anyone know why our posts sometimes appear as columns? I notice that happens when I post directly on my iPad tablet. I wrote the text above on a browser. Looks fine on the browser and my iPhone, but it’s all chopped up when I look at it on my tablet.
So frustrating!1 -

@themedalist , I’ve always wanted to swim the English Channel (not really - although seeing the White Cliff of Dover is definitely on my bucket list).
@TerriRichardson112 I love your new tracker. Here’s mine for October. I thought I posted it Friday, but I don’t see it.
