Hi there,
I'm Ellie. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and for the most part have been non-compliant. I have little to no support at home. I have 2 kids and a hubby who like their sweets. I'm frustrated with myself for not taking better care of myself. I could really use some advice, support and motivation to get healthier. Thanks.

Hi Ellie,
Welcome and I hope your joining the group helps you make your way to a healthier lifestyle. I'm a work in progress and still working on healthier eating and exercise. There are some wonderful people here that are very knowlegeable and have been very successful at lowering their blood glucose numbers. Just keeping track of those carbs on here makes the process easier. I just wanted to wish you the best and hope you find this group as helpful as I've found it to be!0 -

Hi, Ellie. I hope you're still reading the board. I know it's hard to deal with this diagnosis. I hope that you have at least been back to your doctor for annual checkups. Are you taking any medication?
I got my diagnosis in 2006. I, too, have a husband and 2 children, but my children are away at college most of the year. Even if you have little or no support from your family, i want to urge you to love yourself and takevcare of yourself. This is going to sound harsh, but I know you love your family, so think of this: who is going to take care of them if you can't?
It's easy to ignore for a while, but I know you realize this is a serious disease, and if you continue to be non-compliant, you WILL begin to suffer serious health consequences. Who will drive your kids to school and sports events if you can't, because you had your foot amputated? Who's going to read to them if you lose your sight? How are you going to deal with going to dialysis 3 times a week, because your kidneys have failed? I have seen these things happen to family members.
You know how when you ride a plane ,there's an announcement that comes on and says that if the air masks deploy, parents should put them on first, then help their children? Same thing here - you need to take care of yourself so you canbe there for others. You will find a lot of help here. Please don't give up, and feel free to contact me.0
