What's On Your Mind Today?

and I just tried to untag a discussion and it won't let me... ARGGGGGG... I am forever doomed to all the current post tags I have...😫

@WhatMeRunning the only thing that seems to be fixed is the spacing for icons. Before it would never include the space (at least from my view ... iMac on Firefox most of the time). Now that works.
It's the huge amount of white space that bugs me. Everthing requires twice as much scrolling. And things don't render correctly. I hope they fix it .

‘Pardon our crumbs! Work is still in progress, but we have ran into a few snags. Hoping to smooth things out as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.’
something bothers me about the above statement. Hmmm

To be honest if they don't make this more readable I'm out of here. I hate to leave UAC but all this white space literally hurts my eyes. So far the Food diary is OK as there is grayness which makes the white less glaring. It's poor planning on the part of their "forum provider" ... Obviously they missed something in their testing.

What's on my mind today? Exercise. This is my first challenge and I want to tell you about what I do for exercise. When I decided that exercise had to be part of my daily fitness and health journey I searched on YouTube for workouts for women over 50. What intrigued me was Pahla B Fitness. She promotes moderation and her workouts are 20 and 30 minutes in length. This amount of time has been perfect for me because I work out in the morning and then get ready for work. I have consistently worked out since July 2019. I get cardio, strength, balance, toning. I was injured a few times because I did too much. With trips to physical therapy and seated workouts, I am learning moderation. I am currently tending to an inflamed hamstring and doing my best not to injure it anymore. My average steps on my Fitbit tracker are about 8000. Since Pahla B Fitness does walking with weights exercises I don't have to go outside and get my walks. My concern for safety, weather plays part in finding workouts I do at home.
Thank you for this challenge so far. I am enjoying the daily words of wisdom. Have a great day!

@LazyBlondeChef @SummerSkier @WhatMeRunning I agree with all of your comments above! I absolutely HATE the changes and can't seem to find any 'improvements' personally. Ugh is right. The quote feature is a hot mess now too.

@jmu1965 Thanks for sharing your workout regime! It's important to make sure that we don't get too 'carried away' which often leads to injuries.... and even burnout! When I started back on MFP (a little over a year ago), it seems I had one injury after another (knee, shoulder, etc) because I was over-doing it. When I finally took a step backwards and decided to just concentrate on my walking for awhile, the injuries stopped, and I was slowly able to incorporate some yoga and other things.

A huge THANK YOU to @DebyS137 who jumped right in there to design (re-design!) our November UAC banner... due to the recent MFP forum changes. I appreciate that you're always so eager and willing to help out! I'm not very tech savvy, so it means alot to me!! 😏

.
@Mrs_Hoffer ... You are most welcome... I am glad to help out... You do sooooooooooo Much for the Group... Thank YOU !!!

FYI...spoilers (and a few other things) are now found by clicking the paragraph icon, and then clicking the " icon...

OK ... so the paragraph marker icon (which I couldn't see at first) appears just outside the upper left edge of the Comment Box AFTER you first click in the box, ready to start typing .... I can deal with that.
I DO like that we web-based types FINALLY get more than a mere dozen or so emojis (but that is SOOOOOOOO minor if you are like others above and having major, more fundamental issues like "hard to read because white space causing too much glare" etc.
Is it just me .... or has ANYONE found how to get FROM here (aka not just our group but the Comments tab in general) BACK to Home (the Wall, access to the Food Log and Exercise Log ... you know ... the part they didn't mess with?) or does one have to log out, and then back in again to default there?

you click on the myfitnesspal and it opens another window with your wall on it... how awkward. Hey at least they fixed the grammar on their banner. I find it a lot more difficult to navigate around on the web. My phone forget it. I just wish they would fix the problem on the phone where the app just closes randomly.
Pardon our crumbs! Work is still in progress, but we have run into a few snags. Hoping to smooth things out as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

As I have started logging and tracking calories again, things are starting to slowly come back to me how I "used" to measure food with my digital food scale. I have been putting snacks, and meals into single-serving portions, which has led me to buy more Rubbermaid containers and take-alongs. I have to admit, its been fun playing with new Tupperware and reorganizing my cabinet shelves. And I bought a new big Crock-Pot and a small one. Yay!!
I am currently getting ready to start to job hunt and get back into the workforce, which makes me think how am I going to handle getting more healthy home-cooked meals for me and my son instead of grabbing something from the drive-thru's.
I am trying not to go back into my "old diet ways" of eating the same thing every day to lose weight. I usually would eat a bagel and coffee for breakfast, salad and yogurt for lunch, and skinless chicken breast with broccoli for dinner and that was it. Rarely did I make any changes to what I ate. However, I have learned that is part of the problem and I need to learn to just eat correct portions, track my calories, stay within the calorie range, and eat normal food. I am a creature of habit, so I like my bagel and coffee, and working on different pasta salads for lunch (or leftovers), and then just having different meals for dinner.
This brings me to my question - how do I track home-made meals in my Crock-Pot? Since I am trying to have a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable for the rest of my life and eat normal food versus "diet food" - it is that time of the year that I would get out my Crock-Pot and do my Crock-Pot meals. I love my Crock-Pot!! I am also thinking that I could just use my Crock-Pot all the time instead of just during Fall and Winter, and that would help in having healthy home-cooked meals during the work-week.
However, I have a slight problem. I have no clue how to track calories when I cook Crock-Pot meals. My brain goes blank when I dump everything in the Crock-Pot. I can't weigh the insert on the digital scale to start to calculate serving sizes. I tried to use my ramekins but then I noticed that my ramekins are not all the same weight like I thought they would be - all 16-ounce size but the weight varies from each one.
I am not sure if I will need to transfer the dish from the Crock-Pot when it finished cooking to my large mixing bowl to be able to weigh the whole dish to determine serving sizes and calories per serving or if I should divide out the servings the recipe says it will make and then add up each individual serving to get a total weight?
So I wanted to ask for help and ideas from everyone in the UAC on this. And also, I read that MFP has a recipe tracker and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on that as well.
Thanks :)

if you want to add ingredients directly to scale, purchase a heavy duty scale.
Otherwise, find a bowl that will work. “Tare” the weight to 0.
put in first ingredient. Record food name & weight
zero scale. Use same bowl with the food in it.
put in second ingredient.
Repeat
Add up the weights to the TOTAL WEIGHT.
enter the different foods & amounts into your food tracker.
Note the TOTAL CALORIES
When crockpot is done cooking, pour all into a large bowl that has been set on scale at zero.
then serve yourself, recording the weight.
then Divide the serving weight you ate, by the total cooked weight. This gives you the fraction you ate.
last step: Multiple that fraction by the total number of calories.

Pahia B fitness. I will be checking that out myself as well 🌷

Yup, that worked! 👌

FYI
“Hi
Sorry to hear you are not seeing the poll feature. Everyone should have access to it. When you Click on the Blue "+" button on Mobile or the "New Post" button on Web you should then see an option to select New Poll.
As for BBCode, we did have to say good bye to it as our forum provider were inching towards no longering support it. Colors are no longer possible (although we have asked for it), but you can Bold, Italicize, or
Stirkethroughtext with the new editor. You just need to copy the word(s) you want to edit and you should then see those options. Also the Paragraph Icon to the left of the comment box on Web or Below on Mobile will give you additional options like Lists, Quotes, Spoilers, and Code block.
We are still working out a few kinks so bare with us while we file bugs and hopefully get things smoothed out soon”

FYI
Toning down “the blinding white”background (on computer) has been reported as well
as with all software, takes a bit after they are released to fix it up!

I can't get the community on my phone at all so as things stand I shall have to dip out of UAC when I'm on holiday.
And I have to have two tabs open on my laptop because there's no way back to home or diary from community!
Infuriating!😡

@MadisonMolly2017 I've reported the white background multiple times as well as other issues. 🤣

It will just take some time - a lot of it is out of their hands as the underlying software has been changed by the company that creates it.
I noticed the same changes on another app I use at the same time.

@MadisonMolly2017 Thank you for your response. My current Taylor digital food scale is up to 11 pounds, so once that stops working I will update to a larger one. I found another Taylor digital food scale that will go up to 33 pounds - I was shocked to see it that high!
I started thinking (or rather obsessing) like I normally do when I start my "diet" again about calories and the "proper way" to count calories. I was having the argument in my head about weighing food raw or cooked and how to account for shrinkage due to cooking. But I have decided that this is not rocket science and I do not need to be that precise. I found the recipe function in MFP and I think I will see if that will help as well. I am thinking if I use the recipe function I could just weigh a specific meal once and then just follow the recipe and it should be close enough to accurate for calorie counting.
I also found a link in the forums from a google search that was back in 2017:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10590437/its-almost-crockpot-season-how-to-weigh
I am going to use your suggestion and combine it to the recipe function in MFP and I think I will be all set. Thanks again for your help! You are always so helpful in the UAC (among others as well). I am thankful for this group and everyone here

Just a question. Does anyone here view the bboards in other than English? Just curious.0

I've viewed the Italian (I'm fluent). It's not very active. It also still has the old style forum.2

I put that ginger squash soup I was talking about a bit ago into myfitnesspal, if anyone was wanting to make it. I put it in as we modify it, which is real half and half instead of lowfat and apple cider instead of applesauce concentrate.
Not sure if I did the settings right so that people can see it, but I'll link and see if that works:

We had it for dinner last night and I think it is the perfect fall soup.0 -

Hi @Caroline_slowandsteady it didn’t work (for me) and this is what I got when I clicked on your link:

@jamcnewman I just looked up and apparently there is NO way to make a recipe you put in MFP viewable by others - that's why I couldn't figure it out.
The work around for friends is you can find it in my diary and copy it to your diary if you want to see it. I ate it yesterday lunch and Sunday dinner, if you want to. At that point it's probably easier to just put in MFP yourself though!

Thanks so much for following up Caroline — and good to know this is how this function works on MFP. @Caroline_slowandsteady1 -
The most important thing to be consistent with, which should be the #1 priority, is to consistently choose starting again over giving up.7
