HOLIDAY SEASON CHALLENGE

I ended up putting this on as a challenge for all of MFP! Sigh.

This is a challenge to keep us on track for the holidays. I want us to make three goals, things that often trip us up over the holidays.

Goal one for me: Allow myself two treats a week (meaning - one cookie one day, a piece of pie the second day - not two days of eating treats, but two treats).
Goal two - exercise. Walk six days a week, either outside or inside adding on laps as I am able, but (Lord willing) not going backwards unless something physically wrong holds me back.
Goal three - eating healthy and not overeating at special times. Be conscious of what I am putting on my plate and make it healthy and enough to satisfy, not stuff me.

Let's encourage one another in our walk with Christ and in our healthy journey.

God bless, Kim

    3 goals
1 - no more than one cheat day a week...try to keep at one meal
2 - exercise more regularly (at least 2-3 times a week). Need to look up exercises that Bill and I can do together.
3 - loose one pound by end of November, another pound by end of December.

I know that these look really easy, but I have a hard time losing and hope to keep it going. Losing slowly usually stays off easier, too. Right now with this thing in my mouth, they are still keeping me on soft foods and low exercise. I'm tired of pasta, mashed potatoes, etc.

    My Three....
Goal One: Strive to keep calories at 1200-1500 daily
Goal Two: Do some PT type moves daily to increase stability and strength and at least 10 minutes other activity as well
Goal Three: I will allow myself a yummy at Thanksgiving and Christmas: i.e.: pumpkin pie, fruitcake and otherwise use fruit as my "sweet stuff"

Great goals ladies! It will do us well to get our minds set before the Holidays so we are on guard. I'm thinking I'll do the single serve dessert at Thanksgiving and perhaps a quality MW dinner as opposed to a whole pie (I know ME) and left overs for 3 days if I cook. It's just me...and I like simple.

Activity: Have another busy day planned at work. I had 6 rentals in 2 days, am getting ready to start my files purge so it's not saved to the last minute. I can pace myself with that task and hope some missing contracts show up!

I did do some of my PT moves yesterday and plan more today. I'll keep things simple but make movement a priority. My right knee has been giving me trouble about 3 weeks now and I'll see the "Boyz" about that as well.

Awesome job with your weight loss so far, Marilyn. You are doing so well.

A friend made me this Keto friendly dessert for the birthday party since there are so many things I can't eat. If I want a snack, then this is what I will probably go for: 8 Oz. cream cheese, 8 oz. whipping cream (I'll use a non-dairy whipped cream) and 1/2 cup erythritol (I'll use 1/2 Tbs. of Stevia powder). It's call Cheese cake whip, cause it tastes just like the filling of a cheese cake. I didn't read the whole recipe, but it said to whip the cream, and I am assuming that you would whip the cream cheese and "sugar" together and then fold the whipped cream in it so you wouldn't lose the air volume of the whipped cream. That will be my go to snack with some fruit added in, until the holidays - I think if I have this to fall back on I can limit even more of the treats I have allowed for the holidays.

These look like great goals. Let's work hard to be ahead by January!

Well, I am back to where I was when I went to Mom's. It wasn't too difficult to get it back off. A little less than 7 pounds to go to goal.

I discovered I can get in bed without getting on that painful knee. Hooya! I can sit, slide and roll a bit, no pressure.
I had a long nap yesterday after lunch so didn't get much done. I'm working on home chores today and my PCP appt. is at 12:30...then I'm done until Dec. 7th.
I'll get some goals on paper in the next couple of days. I like visuals....so will work on that.

Praying all went well at your PCP's! I go to see mine tomorrow to figure out why my feet are swelling, although the swelling has gone down quite a bit, there is still some edema there. I'm hoping I will get full blood work done as well.

Woohoo, Connie, great job getting that weight off.

I'm going to start on Nov. 1st with my goals, but eat well in the meantime. I did 750 steps for my walk yesterday, the most I've done so far! Praise the Lord.

Am pleased with the goals I have set - actually set it back on September 21 with the goal to lose 1 pound each week till December 14 - today is the 6th week and I am doing it!! I have lost 6.8 pounds in 6 weeks - so if I can do it all of you can do it- just need to start your day reminding yourself that when you start your day 1st with Christ, having Him help you set a plan of action for the day things will happen for the best with respect to your health.

I am a bit tired right now (back pain) but am pleased with my progress - now to work toward the next pound by next Tuesday.

My goal is to walk everyday! I hiked 2.5 miles yesterday. I have not been in quite a while...and it was soooo good to be back!

So very glad to see you Missy! That's awesome! Congrats on getting back to something you love and is such a benefit. Love you!

I stayed in yesterday. We had high winds again and storm possibilities but I didn't see evidence this morning of it.
It's back to work today after 3 days off and I'll have a busy time the next few days. I will aim to fit in some personal time and wee walks in the mix. I love working alone!

Woohoo, Missy. You always were a walker. Wow, 2.5 miles after being off for awhile. I hope you are feeling better and have gotten that pain under control.

Walking every day, mostly counting steps rather than distance. I am trying to up those at intervals, but one day I did 800 then the next day I could only get 550. I'll try for the 800 again today. I didn't have my tennis shoes on when I did the 550 and I'm sure that made a difference.

It is good to see you Missy. I am so guilty of not walking. I got totally out of the habit when the dentist said no exercise for a few days, then it started raining. By the time it turned nice, I was out of the habit. It was such a beautiful day today, that I should have made myself get out and walk.

Wow, I can't believe that I felt like walking yesterday! Quick, check and see if I have a fever. I didn't though, my legs need that day off.

    Back on track today!

Wow - Snow white out in downtown Kansas City, MO today and friends in Kansas City, KS sent pictures with snow. Here it just rained all day, I guess 10 miles south makes a difference. It was too warm for it to stick, but definitely snowed. Needless to say, nothing exercise related happened.

It's 50 here this morning. I hope to be home before hard winter hits here again. I pray for a mild one every year.....

I have plans to do some cleaning today and laundry tomorrow. After considering the cost 3-5 times, I decided not to have my laundry sent out. I will pray for strength, the will and provision...to do it myself and be done with it. That's my biggest task on my list of many.

Did good on my walking, got 1000+ steps in. My goal was 1000 but I think I got about 1020. I got 800 outside then the wind sent me inside and I got the final 200 in the house.

Eating not good. Had my treats yesterday and today, so nothing more for the rest of the week.

I was at 234 this morning.

No watching anything today. It is our anniversary and we went out for a HUGE lunch....and I had cookies for breakfast. Hopefully I won't see a huge gain from this.

Still not walking, although I raced through the hospital a couple of times following Mom when she was moved from the ER to her room and then when they took her to surgery, they let us follow her down and give her some love before she went in. Phew! I have 1793 steps today and that is just from getting around the hospital! Eating isn't good, but the first of December I will get back on track.

Ack! I thought I'd lost my long winded post but it was on the regular challenge thread...whew!

Walking: I did one at work the other day, used my cane, hobbled down to take a lock off a unit. I am in horrid condition! Kick me please! If I hadn't taken my cane, I'd have needed help getting back to the office.
I have been spending way too much time piddling around on the computer...and here at home, I'll often do a little chore when I get up for more coffee or something so need to do that at the office as well. On my busy days, it's not so hard to do.

Monday was one of those as I am getting my Task list for the next one in line done...and it is done... with timeline/guidelines. My many forms I use for verfieds and sale processing are now together in one file folder and labeled with the forms included, I'll get some cleaning done and leave on a good note on the 31st. I'll be doing the prep for the January sale and then it's someone else's baby.

Health-wise...I see my kidney Dr. on my birthday...the 13th and am debating whether to have labs done prior...don't want to, as I need them for my January 11th appt. with my endo Dr. There is no change for her to see if I don't...and I'd think the appt. could be put off? I'll think about it further...

It was today....Thank you. I'm one year closer to 70. My brother's as well. He's one year behind me. Still no contact with him but God knows where he is and what he's up to...and what it will take to get his attention.

I had a really bad start to the day. Really sick....sugar was 362, went up to 387 in 20 minutes....I took 46 units of my fast acting insulin and checked in 1 hour...it was 266, 2 hours...115. I don't want to do that again. I had some rice with brown sugar and creamer and cornbread with apple butter....and that was a boo boo. I didn't get so crazy with my Birthday meals...no sugar. Have decided no pie or fruitcake this year as I normally do...not worth the risk.

    Sensible restrictions....that's my ticket.

So I havent posted on this thread for a bit but here is what my 1st post said

    My 3 goals are
    1) 3 meals no snacks
    2) Lose 1 pound a week
    3) Do my devotional work / work Rooted program first thing before anything else every day

To that in my 2nd post I mentioned that from September 21 to December 14 I had commited to a group where I get weighed (TOPS meeting) that I would lose 12 pounds (works out to be 12 pounds in 12 weeks)

So here is where I am not with all of this challenge

    1) 3 meals no snacks = 100% doing this (actually being doing this for over a year and would not go back to having snacks just make sure each meal has adequate calories and all is well. Eat of my 3 meals has about 400 calories and keeps me full till the net meal

    2) Lose 1 pound a week - since September 21 till today (12 weeks ) I have lost 13.2 pounds - met my goal. There were a few weeks that I went the wrong way gaining 4 pounds (as of last week) but when I got officially weight at TOPS I lost 6.6 this past week - losing the 4 I had put on plus a bit more

    3) My devotionals / Rooted program = have done that daily and have learned so much and my faith is just continuing to get stronger.

I have met my goals except the exercise. I had totally spaced that off. I need to get back to some form of exercise on a daily basis. Tomorrow it won't be outside because of wind advisories, but I will be thinking about something besides the dreaded treadmill.

As of yesterday, 5.5 pounds to goal weight.

    Woohoo! Great reports.

Me too on exercise. I so need to increase my intentional movement. My pain has been a major hindrance but in not pushing the envelope somewhat, I only get stiffer joints, less flexibility and am extremely unstable.
I did push yesterday...in getting the vacuuming done (took 3 runs to finish), then the hiking about at the restaurant....4 wee walks. Need to do moves for the shoulder, back and hips...regularly.

I've been staying the course about 75% of the time as to no after dinner snacking...am looking forward to cooking some good meals when I have more time and energy for it...coming soon.

Breakfast was a lovely microwave omelet...pepper/onion blend frozen, mixed veggie blend, my favorite...some bacon bits, eggs and Mexican blend cheese. Cooked 3 minutes, stirred, cooked 2 more. Had some Siracha on it...so wonderful. Skipping lunch and OK with it....Dinner will be a can of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

I stopped to get the oil change plus done and there was one ahead of me...apparently you have to stay in the car these days. I was there almost 30 minutes and had to "GO"....you know...so left, came on to the office and was going before I got in the office. Glad I didn't wait any longer than I did...even gladder I had a pair of pants in the drawer that I hadn't taken home yet. I'll just go to Avis on Tuesday morning and get the lady's discount. They have coffee and free drinks too.

Also glad I found a free outlet and have my heater plugged up. It feels so good!

So here is what I posted way back when this 'challenge' started

    My 3 goals are
    1) 3 meals no snacks
    2) Lose 1 pound a week
    3) Do my devotional work / work Rooted program first thing before anything else every day

And here is what I have accomplished to date

    1) 3 meals no snacks = :) this is now a habit and so happy that it is

    2) Lose 1 pound a week = did well for some but these last 2 weeks were winners. Here is what the scale said over the last 3 weeks
    Dec 7 = 262.4 = gained 1.0
    Dec 14 = 255.8 = lost 6.6
    Dec 21 = 252.2 = lost 3.6
That means in 2 weeks I have lost 10.2 pounds = that is a win win for this challenge I think

    3) My devotional work is a habit and has been for years - listen to a sermon from our Pastor - have gone back a couple of years in order to do this and it is lovely. They are usually about 30 - 40 minutes long and we listen to it while eating breakfast. Then we use The Daily Bread for a scripture to read and a little devotional to read which leads us into a short discussion and prayer time. Then dishes are put into the dishwasher and I come back to the computer and for my food uplift I listen to a coaching call from the program I am doing. I have 5 years of calls I can go through. All are between 15 - 30 minutes long. It just helps enforce me to remember why I am following this food plan, gives me some good ideas and encouragement. The Root program mentioned has ended so don't have the homework from it but in January I will be doing 10 week study on 10 women of the Bible with a group of ladies from the church so will include that during this part of my day.
