Since we have more holidays coming up I thought this could be useful for those who have to deal with food pushers. These guidelines also apply to drink pushers. To be honest I'm not really on board with #2 as we're all adults here and under absolutely no obligation to provide reasons for why we don't want to eat or drink something. But you all know your friends and family better than I do so perhaps having a ready made reason in mind prior to attending any social events could be useful. But, I'm sort of a hard *kitten* and don't put up with people and their nonsense.
#3 also doesn't work for me because if I don't want to eat something "today" then I surely don't want to eat it later. But again ... if it's a helpful in your situation it is another way to deal with difficult situations. You can always toss it later.
I have a bit of a reputation amongst friends and family as being a picky eater so nobody bothers me about food. I'm not actually a picky eater as I'm open to eating a wide range of food but I don't like to eat junky food or overly sweet things. However, I have had issues with drink pushers. One friend in particular hates it when I won't drink with her. Whatever. Not my problem.
So the take away here:
No, thank you is a complete sentence.
Your life, your choice.
Be tough!10 -
Love this!
I observed naturally normal weight friends. My favorite was my healthy kidney donor at a lovely celebratory lunch in her honor with a homemade cake by hostess, who passed her a piece, “Oh, none for me, thanks!” And passed it to the lady next in line.
No reason
No apology
I use it ALL the time now6 -

@LazyBlondeChef – a timely reminder. My family all know that I watch what I eat and don’t push food although they will offer cakes etc and often I will take a small portion – perhaps share a slice of cake with someone else. When eating out at a friends’ house I will take a very small portion and turn down added cream on dessert or dressing or sauce on savoury dishes.
I have had friends try to insist that I should eat more – “you don’t want to get too thin” “you have to eat something” etc, but I ignore them and try not to be rude in response. Why do people think they can comment on my eating habits? I’m slimmer and, more importantly, healthier than most of them. The one plus point of the pandemic is not having to go to parties where people push calorie- heavy food at me.

Definitely a timely topic.

pass day
all caught up in my posting - I seriously thought of just restarting again in January and dropping out of December, but I told myself I will just adjust and deal with it. However, I got all Christmas shopping done and Christmas decorating done. So life can start to get back to normal. Honestly, I am not sure what normal is at this moment, but I can get back to rebuilding my life, which is my "normal" at the moment
Plus it is a double good day today because the chiefs won and the raiders lost! Go Chiefs!!7 -

@LazyBlondeChef
Great topic. I use that ‘none for me, thanks’ line. Mind you, I do occasionally indulge. It’s a choice.4 -
A quick check in (again). Love this post as well as yesterday. 🥰
I agree that #2 is awkward. In some situations maybe the convenience of it has greater worth, but if that's the case why are you even there to begin with? 🤷♂️
For me it's not about having only inappropriate food available. I have yet to be in a situation where I can't eat ahead or simply wait. It's about tracking, sometimes I can't weigh or measure, and can in some cases make a best guess I am comfortable with, other times I know I can't and know I wasn't able to "accurately" track. I do try to be as in line as possible and not use it as an excuse to go "hog wild".
Today was like that. I did not go hog wild. I did not track. I suspect I broke my calorie allowance but don't know. So today is a great big NO for me. I'm cool with that. Not cool with how out of whack every waking hour is, and not looking forward to the couple weeks of festive f-ing holidays of this coming up. Hoping the kids become even approachably manageable soon, with minimal financial and sentimental loss of things. They are clearly over the freaking moon right now with all of the excitement and schedule changes.
Back to regular world now. Carry on. Love you all and happy holidays (I mean that, I still have a big love for this time of year).4 -
Quick check in to say pass day #3 and I feel gross about it, so looking forward to the fresh start tomorrow. Will need to check in again to go over the food pusher post again. I def need help with that 😬8

It took the folks in my office awhile to realize that it was fine to snack on staff mtg goodies with out me. I would just politely decline and that’s hard also but it works and people get the message. Remember you are the one who controls what goes in your mouth OMG I need to follow this advice!!
Did rowing and some flexibility off to a good start tracked logged kitchen closed other then a drink5 -

Oh @LazyBlondeChef what a terrific topic! This one hits close to home for me as well. I've told this group before about my bestie (25 years!) who constantly harasses me about not needing to lose any more weight and that I'm nothing but skin and bones! Seriously????? (I'm 160, for heaven's sake - I'm seriously NOT wasting away to nothing!) It makes me downright mad because she will push junk and sweets and alcohol on me non-stop when I go visit her. If I say no thanks, she'll say "please don't tell me you're STILLLL dieting!!"Sometimes she doesn't even ask me - she just brings me a brownie (or whatever) and puts it in front of me on the coffee table. THAT really pushes my buttons and I'll let it sit there all afternoon - just because. I usually will make an excuse to leave and head home shortly after that.... because it just never stops.
Lately I've tried telling her that I'm NOT dieting.... I'm just trying to maintain and NOT GAIN any of my weight back.... but she will say something like "but it's the holidays! It's the time of year to indulge! You can go back on your diet in January!" It's so frustrating. I used to have a few beers with her hubby while I was there (she doesn't drink because of medication that she's on), and sometimes now they'll bring me a beer even when I've said that I don't want one. I've let that sit on the table until it got warm as well.
And to be honest, I don't hardly go over to visit her any more. I call on the phone occasionally, and just use the excuse that I'm just very busy. My hubby and I will occasionally meet them out somewhere for dinner, but it's just not even enjoyable to go visit her any more.6 -

@Mrs_Hoffer
Me too… it is so sad, but you are right, it’s not enjoyable. Towing the line is difficult enough without the pressure (for me).
Hugs,

Using Pass Day 2 today. Rest day from exercise and started to track but got lazy and stopped late afternoon. Within calories? Maybe, maybe not. Back to the 3 rules tomorrow.3

I had a friend tell me (and several others) “As you get older, it’s important to have extra weight because if you get sick, you’ll need.”
I replied, because yes I’m tired of this from her, “I here a lot of folks say this, but I’ll have to check the research..” at which point she interrupted me, “..I don’t care if there is or is not research..I’ve known folks who got sick & lost a lot of weight & couldn’t put it back on.”
I just changed the subject.

Exercise: Yes (dog walk, gardening and other walking)
Calories under: Yes
Tracked all: Yes
(I love the above posts. I think whilst there are food and drink pushes, I have realised that some of the pressure to accept comes from me, rather than from them)3 -
Exercise:
Tracking: Almost took a pass day, or thought about throwing in the towel altogether because I am so busy, stressed and just too tired to spend the required time on the entries, but since I knew exactly what I ate I cobbled something together, just not with my usual level of accuracy.
Calories: Way under, so not concerned about making some estimates on the tracking.

Such a great opening post @LazyBlondeChef and so timely — thank you.
✅✅✅ for today
Exercise today was a 40 minute walk outdoors with my husband at the off leash dog park. Beauregard had the best time and was exhausted by the time we led him off for home. There is a great walking loop and he hasn’t been there for ages.

OK, here's a question before I actually post for the day ..... I am trying to get a handle on the BMR / TDEE thing (and breaking the MFP-thinking thing of many many many years' standing)According to The Formula provided in the Topic opener of "How did you pick your Daily calorie goal number", the maintenance calorie level for my target top-of-range (5 or 6 pounds away) is ~1388 (assuming sedentary lifestyle and before intentional activity / exercise).
I set my MFP daily range to 1250 (being now stalled out at plus-or-minus 143 while set to 1300 - finding it hard to eat as much as that lately, and started to be not as active as I was through Nov, first week of dec)
Today I ate 1295 cals, and at 9:30 p.m. with fitbit activity credits for just-over 6050 steps, I am 13 cals in he red. IF I also log my morning session of 51 mins / 365 cals burned on my exercise bike this morning, MFP "Yells at me" for not even breaking 1000 cals net. (which makes me nervous)
Do I put the biking back in the exercise log and ignore the level of deficit? Make a note in the exercise log so that I know I am not REALLY "over by 13 even though the Food Diary says I am" ? Do enough extra steps so that the fitbit activity credits put me back in the green? (given that I am only 13 cals shy that would be do-able)
Update - turns out that what with breathing between 9:30 and 11:30 and updating the fitbit sync, the just-wrong-side-of-red turned into 22 cals green without my doing anything at all. But that still begs the general question re "how / whether to clue MFP / fitbit in on the biking ....1 -
Dec 11
Exercise: 51 mins (~365 cals) on exercise bike this morning + closed my steps ring at just under 6100 by midnight
Logged: All logged (dropped my Daily Calorie Allotment by 50 yesterday ... )
In Range: earned enough fitbit activity credits to leave 22 "in the pot" BEFORE not counting / not eating the biking calories. I'd apreciate input from TDEE-savy types about dilemma faced at 9:30 pm (in spoiler in my entry above)

Exercise: nope
Pass Days: 3/3
Way under on calories but didn't exercise today. It's cold and I was feeling lazy. So my third and FINAL pass day this month. Need to get it together tomorrow. Probably back to getting on the treadmill as soon as I get up. That worked better than my putting it off which is a recent bad habit I've gotten into since I stopped doing treadmill everyday.
@Mrs_Hoffer That's too bad about your friend. One of my friends recently said to me that I shouldn't lose much more weight because old women don't look good when they're too thin. I just laughed.4 -
