I am 5'6, 237 lbs., and according to a lean body mass calculator, have about 145 lbs. of LBM, so 39% fat, which seems about right.
This means that as a sedentary person, my TDEE is 2,142, and if I eat 500 calories less, that 1,642.. today, I am eating 1,689.. with my macros being 70/5/25.. 20 grams of carbs total, and around 90 grams of protein per day, the rest is fat ( mayo, lard, butter ), plus what is in the food.
I have eaten Carnvivore for 2 months out of the past 3.. but when it was warmer, I did my 4 light workouts at the gym like I do now.. but also walked 3.6 miles every day.. and I ate more calories.. closer to 2200.. some days as high as 2800, but I struggled to eat much more than 2200.. too much protein makes me feel bloated, and my blood sugars are hard to keep below 125 mg/dL.
On Keto, my protein intake is lower, and my fat intake is higher, but since I started it at the same time that it became too cold to walk 3.6 miles in.. I AM eating fewer calories. Of course, I burned 400-500 calories by walking, so 2200 calories make sense.. my caloric needs if I burn an extra 500 calories is back to 2,142. This still is 500 less, so it adds up to 3500 calories a week, below my TDEE.
That means I should be losing 1 lb. a week.. I started MFP @ 284.8, on 9/4/21.. so 96 days ago.. round UP, and I should have lost 14 lbs.. 270 lbs. Instead, I have lost 48 llbs. or exactly 1/2 a lb. a day.
I had 4 days in hospital, and 2-3 cheat meals.. where I wasn't on plan. I lost about the same on Carnivore, as I am doing on Keto.. I felt a little different, but weight is good on both... and I had days I lost 5, and days I gained 1-2, plus a 20 lb. jump due to too much fluid intake.. which is why i was in hospital.. so it hasn't been easy. I have congestive heart failure, and a bad heart valve, so I am limited to 2 liter of fluid a day, plus on diuretics, and lots of pills.. which both help with weight loss ( diuretics ), but some which hunder weight loss.. but this is my life. I try to put a few years in between doctor visits, and that is expanding as I lose weight. I was much more unhealthy 20 years ago.. going to hospital for a week at a time, 5-10 times a year, on 29 pills a day, on oxygen, and seeing 2-3 doctors every 2 weeks. ALL this has improved.
I can't change my current circumstances, but want to say, my diet was pretty steady, for 89 of the 96 days.. so when I started worrying because I didn't lose for 2 days, then lost 6/10ths of a lb. today.. an everage of 2/10ths of a lb. a day.. I decided today, to look at my weight chart.
48 lbs. in 96 days.. despite setbacks.. 1/2 a lb. a DAY, 3.5 lbs. a week.. which is 3.5 x as fast as I SHOULD be losing.
Every so often, we need to look at the big picture, and over time, our results look much better. Too often, our 1-3 day results make us a bit depressed, because we don't lose as fast as we want temporarily, but if I only looked at that, my mood with alternate with my daily results, and I want to be happy. I know I am on track, and over time, I will lose around a 1/2 lb. a day, until I get closer to goal and slow down some, so I just need to remember that when the scale stays the same in the morning. I have to weigh in every morning, due to my health condition, but it doesn't need to affect my mood.
