Hi Friends,
Congratulations to all of you who are hitting your UAC goals & making progress!
Today’s opener is for those of you who might be struggling (as I am) right now.
I’ve dealt with this a few times over the past few years of maintenance. Here are some things that have helped me & that I’m concentrating upon now
1. We are dealing with a “chronic, relapsing disease” NOT a personal failing.
* SO, no shame (the disease wins.)
* No giving up (the disease wins.)
* No “I’m dealing with X, Y, or Z, so I’ll just take a break / stop tracking / reduce my exercise / stop weighing myself / etc (the disease wins).
* No feeling sorry for ourselves (the disease wins)
How to beat this disease?
1. Gratefulness. We’re alive❣️
2. Self-Love, Self-Care, Positive Self-Talk
3. Keep tracking/weighing/exercising even if you don’t like the results & especially if you don’t want to! (Refer back to #2.)
4. Don’t make drastic changes. Little tweaks work. Treat our bodies with love.
5. Look at past records to see what worked.
6. Decide on the One Thing that would help the most & do that.
7. Focus on stopping the gain first. Once you are solidly maintaining a weight (even if it’s higher than you would prefer), THEN work to lose.
8. Veggies & water!
So, I recently came across an article on the great British actress, Dame Judi Dench, who is still acting at age 85-6 (Amazing). But the inspirational part to me was she has macular degeneration & cannot read/see. Did she give up? NO! Her friends read her the lines over & over & over until she’s got them. The director guides her if she’s saying her lines to a tree instead of her fellow actor - with gentle humor.
I decided - and have already begun - to ask myself when dealing with a tough situation- what would Judi do?
Enlist help
Ask for feedback
Come up with creative solutions
Never give up
Wishing you all the best these final 11 days of a January. I’m beginning a fresh start right now. This minute. I think Judi would, too❣️
How is it going for you? What strategies are you implementing to make the rest of January awesome?16 -

Extreme cold warning here. The sun is barely up (we live in a bit of a hollow) and the temperature is currently -26 C (feels like -28 C)
I have a tetra-pack (resealable) of chicken broth and another of beef broth. For a zap-in-the-microwave cup of waaaaarrrmmm any time (and more food value / no caffeine yet only 4 cals per mug) once the breakfast coffee is inside me.
Now that I have figured out how to GATHER the data re trends in various ci and co groupings ... I will be spending the last week of Jan understanding what it is telling me about Nov-Jan, and setting up any minor rejigging in advance of Feb 1.11 -
@MadisonMolly2017 - I love your post, I love Judi Dench, and I think I have a crush on you too. Thanks for such an inspiring post that cuts right to the heart of things.9

One of the things I have come to accept is that lapses do happen. We can come up with strategies to limit them and keep them far enough apart that they do not turn into a full out disaster. But thinking we will be or have to be perfect is setting ourselves up for failure. It is really really difficult to accept that I have to live with this disease forever but reality better faced than run from.13 -
pass day #25

I know this isn’t our monthly NSV day but something happened today and I’m pretty stoked. I have an old pair of jeans that I wear when I work outside or paint. For the last few years, even if I could get them on, they were so tight that I couldn’t stand to wear them. Today, grandkids came sledding. I don’t have snow pants so I first put on my fleece running pants and then wore those jeans OVER the fleece with no problems! They fit fine, with maybe even room to spare. It was great evidence of the progress I’ve made.18

Love the opener post today – thankyou Maddie.
Exercise – only a short bike ride, it was so cold! But I got my 12,000 steps doing Utube videos.
Tracked – yes
Calories – yes
2/3 pass days
I should have gone to the gym today - I have been trying to go 3 x a week - but I just didn't feel like it. I cut my bike ride short, just went to the shops, round to mum's and home.
Winter blues?7 -

Apologies In advance for the essay. Ha ha! Xo
* 30 min jog, weights, walk & stretch.
*Meditation and journaling
* Over calories and instead of using my exercise calories im going to have to own this one and take it as a pass because i stress ate and emotionally grazed so didnt track properly. Im disappointed in myself as im not even back at work yet and just the thought of it has me very stressed and turning back to food as a way to cope. On a positive note i hve been very courageous with wat im requesting from work for wen i return, so putting me and my fam first so this is New for me and it's understandable that im feelimg out of my element. The other positive of yesterdays experience is that because i had the mindset of i dnt want to take a pass it has allowed me not to go too crazy with wat i ate so now that im guesstimating I only went over by a few hundred but if i allowed myself In the moment to think I'm having a pass day it would hve resulted in me being over by a 1000 plus calories. Lastly the scale stayed the same this morning. Love the intro @MadisonMolly2017 just wat alot of us needed!! Xo
* Didnt Track honestly
* Monitored sugars but over

Thanks for the very thought inspiring opened today Maddie @MadisonMolly2017 💡💡💡
How is it going for you?
I am in this for the life long journey, and despite my eager commitment to do everything as well as I can, I try to remind myself that one meal, or even one day will not bring me down. I think that I can honestly (and finally) say at almost 6 months into this, I have more confidence in my ability to be successful. It is impossible to perceive that the goal is perfection — right? [and thanks for your affirming comment @SummerSkier ].
I had a really challenging December. I am finding that even with the brutal cold, isolation due to that cold weather and Omicron, and the absence of much daylight, this month is actually so much easier.
What strategies are you implementing to make the rest of January awesome?
I’ve started back into some projects I had been putting off. I am finding it very helpful to have multiple ways that allow me to see progress and accomplishment. This takes some of the “pressure for perfection” off of me for faster weight loss.
I have committed to 10,000+ steps a day for all of January now and in addition, I must do 30+ minutes of continuous walking each day.
And, I’ve started planning my garden and the seeds I’ll start. Hope.7 -

Thank you @MadisonMolly2017, this is very inspirational. We should always have the winner's attitude. I like Judi's attitude.

I have an aunty (89yrs) who has this same attitude and she inspires me a lot.
