Weight Loss Journey Day 1 Revisited.

December 25, 1994 was the first day of my weight loss journey. I’d actually made the decision about 9:55 pm the night before while watching Its A Wonderful Life with George Bailey howling “I want to live.” Not kidding.

Don’t really recall how Christmas dinner went. Probably didn’t have seconds. Didn’t drink alcohol. Probably did have pumpkin pie. All I really needed to do to improve on how I’d been living was not stuff myself to the point on immobility. I was a start.

I’d planned to start on the New Year like everyone else but I wasn’t sure I’d make it until then.

    Interesting topic.

I joined at the end of 2007, and my first meeting was January of 2008. I joined because I didn’t want my wife to push my drooling stroke-ridden body around. Consumers Reports had recently done a comparison of weight loss program and rated WW highest at two things - long term successes and changing peoples' thinking about food.

The meeting, in a hotel conference room, was mobbed. I weighed in at a surprisingly high weight of 315.4, some of which was due to the “last supper” indulgences over the prior week in things and amounts I knew I’d never be allowed to eat again. I sat at the back, said nothing, went to the post-meeting for newbies, took my slider and left.

Prior to joining, I had made a commitment to make a good faith effort for three months, and decide if it was worth continuing. M still here.

TOL and I first joined in the summer of1977. Evening meeting, so after dinner. Don't remember my start weight, but my goal was 189 the BMI for 6'0". WE both got to goal the next summer, if I remember. Meeting places and leaders changed. We stopped going. Tried it a couple of times in the early 80's, but, at the last, the closest was about 15 miles, and I didn't feel comfortable, as TOL didn't re-join at that time.
She re-joined in 2010, I think. I was using an old program I bought, and loved, but a computer upgrade left it useless. So.. back to TOL's WW meeting.
I had dropped from 335# to about 280# in December,2012. Hit my new (Dr. proscribed) goal of 220# this September (TOL's been at her goal for @5 years), and am still at goal, after a back operation, which precluded most exercise. Back to PT, and some exercise now, so expect to reach my personal goal of 210# at WW.
