It's the last day of February..... I know our friends in the southern hemisphere are looking at heading into fall soon..... but here in the northern hemisphere, we can hardly wait for SPRING!! It's sure been a long, cold winter...... at least in Ohio! Lol.
1. I need to know if you're going to be in the Winner's Circle or Champion's List.
2. Please let me know if you want to be a cheerleader/commentator/encourager in March (what day of the week?) We also still have several openings for Content Creator.
For this month end post, I thought it might be interesting to hear each other's stories and perhaps get to know each other a little better:- How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started',
- how much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it,
- what's been the most difficult part of your journey,
- what's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining,
And don't forget to join us for March: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/142661-ultimate-accountability-challenge-march-20222 -
Sun and Mon
Sunday was a pass day with friends over
Monday was a yes day
Exercise: Dog walk 30 min and Body Attack workout 45 minutes
Tracked all: Yes
Calories under: Yes
I am not going to be able to reply to the above question as I am straight off to bed. I will come back and read other people's stories though and share more of mine in March.
I finished Feb having used 3/3 pass days. Huge improvement on the preceding months.6 -
I know I’ve been almost non existent this month. Part of it was a 2 1/2 week vacation that even though I always had internet access, I had a shift in mind set I guess. I was also very busy, very active. Because of flight cancellations and the stress it caused, hubby stayed home and I went alone. That’s ok. I can entertain myself. Lots of long difficult hikes, from 4 to 7 hours. Rode bike 100+ miles in 2 days. Ran a half marathon. Soaked up sunshine. I came home energized and recharged. I’m missing all that hiking.
[*] How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started'
I’ve been on and off MFP for years but part of the UAC since 1/2021. I had lost a little weight on WW in 2020 but it was inching back on and wanted to stop it before it got out of control.
[*] how much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it,
I’ve lost 35 pounds in 2+ years. I’m aiming for 15 more and then will evaluate whether that’s my maintainable weight or keep going.
[*] what's been the most difficult part of your journey,
getting past those periods of no progress when the temptation to eat everything in sight seems overwhelming.
[*] what's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining,
gosh only one thing? This group has completely changed my mindset about weight loss, partly because of each person’s input, partly because of the resources recommended. My 2 biggest changes in weight loss approach are 1. Slow is OK because slow increases the odds of keeping it off and 2. Don’t make any changes that aren’t sustainable.8 -
I want to thank all of you for your thoughts regarding my buddy Sadie we walked with her to the Rainbow Bridge this morning it’s a empty home even with 2 other big guys but I have wonderful memories of her with our family. Give your pet some extra attention today they aren’t here forever.11

@mrs_hoffer I vote we make the above opener one of the early ones in the month. Not a lot of posters on the last day usually.3 -

@snowshoe072 Thinking about you now and sending hugs. 💛 Our pets are an important part of our families and their loss has such a tremendous impact — even if it was time for them to pass. You gave him such a loving home. Take good care of yourself and the big guys left behind.3

@snowshoe072 Hugs to you and a great reminder to not take any time with our beloved pets for granted.2

@Mrs_Hoffer I will be in the Winners Circle this month
How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started'?
I dabbled with Sparkpeople in the mid 2000's and I had an old MFP account years ago as well, but it was spotty usage at best. This time I joined MFP on 1/28/21 after a bad dream where my weight was a factor. It was impactful enough that I got up, started making changes, and I haven't looked back. Silly how something so random was the final straw when I had many years of failed attempts and many reasons to start.
How much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it?
As of today I've been logging for 397 days straight and I've lost 115.8 pounds.
What's been the most difficult part of your journey?
Realizing that weight loss in itself doesn't fix the mind. I still need to learn to do the work in dealing with my perfectionist, people pleasing tendencies. I now have to find ways to cope with emotion rather than eating.
What's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining?
That consistency and accountability is key for those of us that have trouble controlling ourselves around food. That habit change is critical. Not biting off more than we can chew and implementing strategies for the long term that are sustainable.6 -

Exercise – yes
Tracked – yes
Calories – yes ( As planned)

Wow. This month is my best month so far since I started the UAC Accountably Challenge. I lost 5.5 pound this month.
Next month challenge is to stay committed, consistent and drink a lot of water.
Hopefully, 4 or 5 pound at the end of March.
Thank you everyone for the encouraging words from this group.

I forgot to include this in my earlier message. Please add to the Winner's Circle for this Month. Thanks.

Last day of February and it is an honest miracle and pure will of stubborn tenacity that I will be in the Winners’ Circle this month. 😖😓 Great opener today Teresa! @Mrs_Hoffer
I joined MFP at the end of July 2021 and found the August UAC just days later. I had been to my GP after being more than two years overdue for my physical (Covid, etc). My weight was a shock. Blood sugars, cholesterol, etc., were all good, but my blood pressure was at the high end of normal. I knew it was time to not simply take this weight off (again), but to figure out how to live in in a manner that kept it off. I asked for referrals into the clinic’s dietician and exercise physiologists, which my doctor set up quickly. I now see each of them once a month.
[*] how much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it
I have been tracking for about 7 months and so far have lost 47 pounds. I get weighed once a month at the dietician and will next be weighed March 15.
[*] what's been the most difficult part of your journey
I really struggle with keeping as active during winter. Due to my immune system and medical situation, I can no longer use the public exercise facilities. Outdoor pools and activities kept me really active. Figuring this out and shifting my mindset is a big part of it.
We rarely eat out (or have take away food) and a good thing, as I have difficulty with estimating and tracking when it isn’t food I’ve made. I love to cook and create and modify recipes, so we don’t use much take out.
[*] what's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining
The most important things I have learned are that a) I am not alone, b) that there are people who can help me problem solve if I simply ask for help, c) a sense of confidence that I can do this, and d) it will take a forever commitment from me to continue my success.
I agree with @SummerSkier that this would be a great post in early March as I’d love to learn what others have to share. 💐3 -

In the Winners Circle
I joined MFP in Jan 2015. I had developed degenerate bone disease in one hip, which had impacted my mobility leading to gradually weight gain over a period of years. I needed to lose weight so that I could have a hip replacement. I worked on iimproving my health and fitness so that I could have a speedy recovery from the op.
My weight had ballooned to 227 lbs. Using MFP, I initially lost over 40lbs, and had surgery in early September 2015, making a speedy recovery. By then I had shifted my focus to health and fitness, which meant that I continued to lose weight slowly, with many plateaus, until I eventually started maintaining in 2019.
The most difficult part has changing unhelpful ingrained habits and attitudes to more positive ones.
I could write a book on the things that I have learnt. Here are just a few of them.
• Weight loss is only one measure of progress.
• Creating a healthy, fit lifestyle is a life long process.
• Effective sustainable habit modification is crucial to that process.
• Everyone is an individual. What works for one may not work for another.
• The support and encouragement of others on the same journey makes the process much easier. That’s why I’m in UAC 😂 (to name just one of my groups)3 -
@jjjcat Congrats on a 3 Yes day! And CONGRATS on being in the Winner's Circle this month!
@biketheworld Wowsa! Great job on staying SO active while on vacation!
@snowshoe072 Kate, I'm so sorry about your fur baby. I know how difficult that is. {{HUGS}}
@SummerSkier and @jamcnewman I agree with you both, but I can't change the topic now. Lol. I was just curious to hear people's stories.
@Winner_in_Life I'm so glad that you're still here and still checking in. I know you've had a rough few months as well. {{HUGS}}
@ashleycarole86 I think that your story is so inspiring! It's interesting that the catalyst was a dream and that day the switch just "flipped", and you've never looked back.... I'm very proud of you! Oh, and congrats on being in the Winner's Circle!
@eokoro CONGRATS on being in the Winner's Circle AND on losing 5.5 lbs!! Woohoo!!
@jamcnewman Julie that's great that you've lost 47 lbs in 7 months! Very impressive! I love your 4 things that you've learned from the UAC.... very insightful! And I'm with you about not being as active this winter..... it's not near as cold here in Ohio as it is in Canada where you are! Go YOU!!!
@TerriRichardson112 you are such a pillar of consistency and are always so encouraging, steady, and full of wisdom for the rest of us "beginners". Lol. I appreciate you.
There are so many success stories in this group.... this is such an awesome bunch of people and I appreciate being on this health journey with all of you.3 -

How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started', I've been on MFP since May, 2020. I was at the heaviest weight I'd ever been and it was time to do something. My daughter found this app and said give it a try.
how much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it, I have lost 15 lbs and it's taken me 1 yr 9 months to lose it
what's been the most difficult part of your journey, Retraining all of my bad habits and fall back behaviours and stress eating. Consistency is key but I realized about Feb/21 that I was an emotional/binge eater and had been since I was a kid.
what's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining, I learned that we all have struggles and that all of us get there eventually. Some faster, some slower, but if you stick to the principles you'll get there.
and any other details that you feel like sharing about your weight loss journey thus far. You don't have to answer all of the above questions, but whatever you're comfortable sharing. Just keep showing up, eventually you'll get with the program. Even though I'm still not perfect, I am so much further ahead than I was this time last year and this time 2 years ago. Just keep moving and trying to get with program.
Yes to logging & staying within calorie budget, no to exercise.
@snoeshoe072 Sorry to hear of your loss, big hug!4 -

I’m so sad to hear, that’s always the saddest day for all the wonderful days you get to spend with your pets. Mine is getting lots of extra love tonight. He had to have his middle back digit removed today and he is not a happy camper… but they found a malignant melanoma In his paw pad - very rare but it hasn't spread so this was the best choice. Hopefully this is the only one - I think he burned his paw on our wood stove years ago and possibly it caused some permanent cell damage. Poor guy…

I joined MFP in 2012 and have used it daily for long periods (in weight loss) and then would stop logging once I hit my goal, then start again when I would gain it back. What I am finding now that is making the difference is: I'm no longer putting myself on a weight loss timeline (slow & steady), I am making habit changes and mindset changes first priority, and I'm only making changes I can sustain for a lifetime. I'm so glad I found this group as it has really made such a positive impact on me not just from an accountability standpoint but also the encouragement and support is so wonderful!💗3 -
February 28 2 pass days.
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, Pahla B for 24 minutes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
I started MFP and UAC about 5 months ago. The main reason I started was because my dietitian wanted me to use it.
I started my weight loss journey in July 2019 at 262 pounds and now I am at 190. I was as low as 180 and I am working towards that goal.
I have realized that this a lifestyle change and I am not going back to the weight I was.
These questions are great for next month.5 -

How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started'
- I can't remember how long I've been on MFP. I started out on SparkPeople back in 2009 and somewhere along the way switched over to MFP (under a different username). However, I would log for a month or two and then go on hiatus for awhile. I never really used the community forums or groups until this go around. I started back again in September, 2021 after being a bit shocked that I had gained back 15 pounds of the 25 pounds I had lost the first half of 2020.
How much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it
Since the beginning of September, 2021, I've lost a little over 30 pounds. I now have lost my "baby weight" almost 30 years after the birth of my first child. :-) I'm about 5 pounds away from my goal weight.
What's been the most difficult part of your journey
Not being able to trust myself. I'll be doing fine and then go off and binge one night. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I can't figure out how to stop myself even when I know I shouldn't be doing it.
What's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining
I've learned so much from all you wonderful people. Don't let your mood be tied to the number on the scale. Tracking will give you insight. This group has also helped me understand myself better.
Edited to add that I am a champion (posting everyday)!4 -
@snowshoe072 that is heart breaking. You and Sadie were very blessed to spend all those lovely times together.
Yes on exercise but no tracking.
No on Winners Circle or Champions this month. How long have you been on MFP, and what was the catalyst that drove you to finally 'get started',how much weight you've lost and how long it has taken you to lose it,what's been the most difficult part of your journeywhat's something that you've learned from being in the UAC about weight loss or maintaining,
I have been quiet here, and not tracking everything (including not tracking exercise). I'm just focused on being as happy as I can be. Happiness requires feeling good, and those good feelings arise from being healthy. So while I may seem adrift, I am focused on doing the right things to make everything better. For some reason right now it's easier to stay relaxed and happy by not holding myself to account for everything I eat, all my steps, minutes exercising, etc. I don't plan to do this long term though. I have better results when I do plan and track everything, and I would really like to kick off another spring, summer and fall of great progress (and beyond) and maybe achieve normal BMI for the first time ever. I was very close last fall, and since I have quite a head start on my weight starting off this year compared to last year, it seems very possible.
Best wishes to all! I think about you all every day, even when I'm not posting.5 -
Yes x3. Walking and lower body strength.
I joined MFP in 2012 after the birth of my second. I used it to lose 30lbs of baby weight within 6 months then got pregnant with #3. I have a 10lb range (135-145) that I maintain within. When I hit the high end, I find myself back here to get down to the lower end. I’m down 7lbs in the last two months. Biggest challenge is maintaining where im comfortable and keeping up with tracking once I hit maintenance. I am pretty all or nothing and struggle with some binge eating. I’ve learned that I thrive on accountability and love following along with other peoples inspiring journeys and perseverance. I’ve learned a lot about mindsets and building healthy habits. And that prelogging meals is so handy!
I’ve made the winners circle this month!6 -

Evidently MFP did something to the Discussion/Group side of things and I lost my logon on my iPhone for the app. I wasn't able to logon as I use a password manager but it's local to my computer. Doesn't really matter as all days this past week are pass days either due to lack of exercise or excessive calories.
